Just stumbled upon your videos today. I love journals and writing and you've given me a lot to think about 🤔 for how I can fill them and organize my thoughts, ideas, and inspiration.
Great video! Thanks for not falling into the myth that asking other people to talk about themselves somehow makes you interesting. The only thing I’ll add is show people you are interesting early and often. The most interesting people I know launch into good stories early and often without being asked. Also it’s ok to exaggerate some details to make your stories more interesting. Everyone else is doing it.
I took the shortcut and got born with ADHD. That means I've had 4 careers, 3 of which have nothing to do with my college degree. I've tried half the hobbies on the planet and I know endless trivia about everything lol. Maybe I should be less interesting.
Off topic to this video but I just started journaling several topics in a travelers notebook and I have one that basically falls under “book journal” I give me thoughts on passages on books/stories as a whole etc. and I know you like your fancy words so if you stretch this one’s definition it works perfectly as a name for this type of journal. MARGINALIA - the notes or comments left in the margins of books Which is exactly why I have the journal to leave those notes without having to leave ink on the pages of whatever work I’m reading. Great word honestly
I started doing this too recently for books that I don't want to write in. Love it. And I love marginalia. Great word haha. I think I talk about mine in this video: th-cam.com/video/_bToCXlmfGo/w-d-xo.html
I'm told that I tend to ask questions that are near to impossible to answer. Lol! Questions like what makes a good person turn evil and such. Spent two decades pondering that one...researching behaviors of some not so savory individuals who started their lives in a better place. Mom said I started asking those kind of q questions before I started preschool.
I watched this video not to become interesting but figure out why people see me as so interesting in the first place when I feel so normal (or feel uncomfortable with how I unintentionally become such a people magnet). This video answered my question to the why but also inspired me to pick up old hobbies that I've been itching to mess around with too :] It also explained why my best friend and I click so well. We both find each other to be mutually interesting and can provide each other with stimulating conversations.
The title is 100% clickbait but the first 15 second 100% redeems it. I completely agree that wanting to be more interesting leads to being more interested in the world around you.
All your videos, that I have listened to so far have been very helpful and educational. Since earlier this year, I became interested in journaling, journals, and Stoicism. Oh, and fountain pens LOL. Along with your videos, I have been listening to Ryan Holiday (Stoicism), and Ryder Carroll (Bullet Journaling). All 3 of you have influenced me on this new, exciting adventure.
🤔 Great tips about asking deeper questions. I get pulled into a lot of small talk at work. If I have time to chat, I try to shift to deeper conversation. 🙂
🤔 Small talk can be nice and safe, in my opinion, and it's a good place to start a conversation when you don't know the people around you. I find it less intrusive than someone popping out strange questions, or asking about the extremes one has encoutered through out life. I guess that's because I'm introvert, in a way. I never know why someon I just met would want to know what's the most interesting place I have visited and why. What do they want to do with that info? Are they really interested? Will my answer actually have an impact? Or is it a sort of competition where the person with the most interesting answer wins? I think the most interesing people make you feel at ease and can seamlessly turn small talk into a philosophical conversation. Interesting people stumble upon connections you can follow, that uncover the deep thoughts behind the mundane.
In my country Mexico people simply ask, "How was it?" and they expect you to respond with everything you did that day instead of asking a deeper or more interesting question.
