It's plausible their integration into early human society forced out most of their relatively solitary and hunting focused lifestyle, as those traits lead to the extinction to the Neanderthals who hadn't integrated, with their larger bodies requiring more energy that sometimes can't be reclaimed and solidarity meaning less people to help when they need it, eventually proved too much for the slightly less intelligent Neanderthals, phasing out the unnecessary behavior in later generations until they can no longer be classified as separate from early humans while killing off the stragglers.

@@wingedbluj1674 Hold onto your butt, 'cuz it seems the small number of things we thought Cro Magnons did that Neanderthal's didn't actually were done by both. Less than a month ago it was discovered that a remarkably well preserved body of a neanderthal had string stuck under one of his fingernails, and was apparently broken off from his clothing. So their intelligence is now being commonly interpreted as indiscernibly close to contemporaneous humans.

He literally contradicts his own premises. First he claims that men just go for as many women as they can get. Then he says that Neanderthal men would just go after Homo Sapiens women, leaving only the Neanderthal women for the Home Sapiens men instead of going for them as well.
He also responds to the argument that a Neanderthal appearance is generally considered very unattractive by women with sexual attraction just being something cultural open to change, and so you can’t extrapolate these things into the past. Before proceeding to do literally exactly that, rephrasing certain Neanderthal features in a deceptive way to gloss over the fact that the whole package is, again, considered unattractive.
He also fundamentally doesn’t understand how evolution works. If Neanderthal traits gave men such a big advantage evolution would have selected *for* them, not *against* them, which is what happened in reality. If he was right we should all be Neanderthals.
And of course he also completely ignores that humans generally don’t and didn’t pick their mates by having all men randomly beat the crap out of each other and then all the women just bang the strongest guy. They form large social groupings, form in- and outgroups, are territorial and generally practice some degree of monogamy. Humans aren’t Walruses.
His „Theory“ is inconsistent with observable reality, the theory of evolution and even itself and it drives me nuts that so many people literally do not process the claims a garbage You Tube video makes.

It wasn't our species developing in tansania and then conquering the earth, our species developed by migration.

I've only recently found this channel... Must say I've not been disappointed.
    "Good show, old chap!"
This theory makes as much sense as any other I've heard.
Even though it's fiction, and she's writing from a particular viewpoint, I can't help myself but look at sapiens-neanderthalensis interaction through the lens of Jean M. Auel's Earth's Children series.
Lol, I was reading one of the books while on break in the cafe when I worked at Barnes&Noble and the one bookseller snuck up behind me to ask, "Are you at one of the naughty parts?" It is Paleolithic porn; the sexy parts are along the lines of those "bodice-ripper" romance novels. But with flint-knapping, hunting/gathering, Goddess worship, and of course the existential issues regarding interaction with Neanderthals, aka "flatheads." It's an enjoyable series; my boyfriend turned me on to them, interestingly. Of course I saw the Daryl Hannah movie when I was a kid... My friends and I were such little perverts.
We've been trying to find some other prehistoric fiction; there's the one by William Golding (Lord of the Flies) that's wildly inaccurate. Reindeer Moon by Elizabeth Marshall Thomas was pretty good, but no interaction between the two homonins.

His „Theory“ is inconsistent with observable reality, the theory of evolution and even itself and it drives me nuts that so many people literally do not process the claims a garbage You Tube video makes.

for those wondering, the actual theory most agreed with is that the neanderthols were stronger, so they could take on prey straight on, but our breed wasn't as strong, so we developed better weapons because we needed them, but the neanderthols didn‘t have the weapons, so we actually won the fights.
Edit: yeah it’s super over simplified

    • @xezazase
      @xezazase 4 ปีที่แล้ว +290

More advanced weapons? I think the true cause was that we were able to operate in larger social groups and had better language/communication. One vs one, neanderthals WERE superior, but that ended working against them. They existed independently and thus formed smaller, more isolated groups. When humans came around, they were outnumbered. We won the competition for resources and they slowly disappeared into our gene pool.

Nah he is right because we were smaller and less strong we learnt to throw spears and attack from afar meaning we were a lot safer. Neanderthals instead used brute strength and would run up and stab the animal, putting themselves right next to danger and would mean they are more likely to get injured or killed. I also agree with sam though, all European people share a lot of neanderthal DNA, meaning that there was at least some interbreeding.
