I love the English understatement of "this is not ideal...this is not ideal" coming in for that landing. I laughed out loud. Great flying!
I think Blackbox has made a good job of this aeroplane. Even the radio curly cord was swinging in the rough conditions.

Fantastic video Rachael and that’s was some serious flying there. At least you chose the right plane for the job! That thing is so dependable and can land in terrible conditions, it’s why the Scottish ambulance service still operates one on standby to this day. They upgraded there entire fleet and replaced every plane but one, they kept hold of one of these for medical emergencies in IMC with severe wind. That was some great piloting Rachael, first landing was a bit hairy but you had the plane to help you out. As a former (have to say former now as I’m a cripple 😢) the attitude and behaviour of the plane at many points made me actually wince!
I’ve never flown in anything that bad but I did have an experience in a Cessna 172 flying out of a valley in Scotland when fog rolled in and the cloud base dropped to the floor and I could see nothing, lost all my reference points and just had to fly my plotted course using instruments and a stopwatch. Was terrifying I couldn’t tell if I was upside down or right way up and had no choice to press on. Luckily once I flew up and out of the valley the cloud went back to where it’s supposed to be and I was able to resume VFR flight. Most terrifying flying of my life but a little thrilling too.

In terms of why we had to get there... in the 'scenario' i had to... more for someone else than me... but if it hadn't cleared visually i'd have had to wave off and abort the entire thing tbh... without being able to see it would have been too dangerous.
@@AvAngel Haha, yeah, I know you had to do it, was just saying that's where that mentality starts.
One of the reasons I love flying simulators though is you get to take the risks you wouldn't want to in the real world.
That was nerve wracking to watch, and reminded me of my early war thunder days where I tried flying through clouded mountains like you did here... I ended up splattered on the mountainside though. Very creative rp.
Just wanna say I really enjoy this idea as a way to do flight sim videos.

Great scenario and great video! When you were in cloud and that close to the terrain it was genuinely scary to watch. Prime CFIT territory! Excellent job getting into that strip in those conditions.
It was terrifying to do... nearly called it off and re did it with less attrocious weather more than once!

I like flying the Islander. It's Certainly not Carenado level on the details, but it feels quite raw, and I enjoy it for that. Great vid as always 👍🏻.

Awesome trip, the injured guy you picked up would consider you an angel for sure! And I love all the shaking/rattling noises on the Islander when taxiing, all planes should have that. One tiny thing though, I would have gone into the fuel/payload window and added the weights of the two people you picked up before taking off again. But still a great production as always.

Great video - IMC is scary enough when the clouds don't have rocks in. I managed to nearly have the Piper Seminole fall out of the sky due to icing over Queenstown, NZ (NZQN), but managed to get out to sea, descend, melting the ice off my windows, and fly up the fiord at 500ft to back to where I started in Milford Sound NZMF.
It’s really scary at times and I’ve is the worst.

ILS? Not needed! Who needs ILS when you can do a non-precision GPS into a bush strip down to a few hundred feet AGL with massive wind/gusts and forest just feet from the wings ?!

During take off from Moe Creek it was pretty intense. I was for real holding my breath and got quite sweaty palms.
That was fun! It's a very underrated plane, I love flying it. Have you upgraded yours? I'm sure my Islander cockpit doesn't look like that but Blackbox haven't told me there's an update.
Well at least you are taking somebody out, rather than investigators in. Pre gps in the less socked in mountains, it is the way a pilot would read his map would betray a lot. Thanks for the flight, a bad day at the camp. Well if you flew to Collishaw airport I would have waved.
Yeah, without GPS tech, that approach would have been near impossible with winds moving me around... nasty weather tbh. That coupled with IFR kept me out of trouble enough to make it.
@@AvAngel Me I would have been eyeball to eyeball with a Douglas fir on the crosswind landing.
As long as you don't verbalise like this in front of real passengers - they would be scared to death. 😂😂

I'll be the first to admit that I wouldn't have known what to do at the time where you completely lost visuals.
I probably would've turned to run parallel with the shore and descended to get any sort of visual before trying to follow the outline of terrain in toward the airfield, but that is because I don't know jack about instrument-only flying :D

turned up on my recommendations today and after what the uk has been through this week ,very timely. pity you can do paint schemes on msfs 2020, you could have had thunderbird two

Love you vids but... I think your audio levels are too low ;) I have to crank it up A LOT and then hopefully not forget when I put something else on :D perhaps try -12db to -8db?
It's above that! I just try to not blow out the top end by balencing things.
It is a tad low but not terrible. You should try to have normal peaks reaching around -10 db. That still leaves 10 db extra headroom. Thats about where the average seems and ppl wont blow out thier subs when they they play the subsequent video after having had to turn yours up..
Wonderful bit of flying...glad it wasnt IRL. That cross landing at the end was spectacular too, given conditions. I couldnt do that. 👍✌
Hmm, strange! I had to crank it up a lot at my end! Don't change anything about the content though, that's some class A stuff you're producing :) I enjoy it a lot, especially the adventures such as this one.

This is my own flight, I create reasons to do x or y, missions in my mind :)

I've jumped out of one twice,The landing would have been more gentle had I stayed onboard,but nobody likes a chicken..........................................
