I rarely went to concerts when I was younger, but now that we are retired to Florida, my wife and I have been able to see both Ringo and Derek with their bands recently. Great experiences.
I've seen Derek about a dozen times. First with the ABB, and with the Tedeschi/Trucks band. He is such an exceptional artist. IMO, he has the best left hand of any guitarist. And I have never seen anyone play so effortlessly. What a class act too. Gawd.
it just looks effortless because he has been mastering his unique technique/style since he was like 8 years old.
I can name plenty of better players, he’s simply very good if not the best with the slide. Take that slide away, and he’s still good but you wont call him one of the greats for his non slide stuff.
@@xijinvegg He's not like conventional slide players who can only really play blues. He really elevated slide to the next level.
@@Asshat237 yes, but there are still plenty of better blues players. He’s the best at slide but blues overall - not a chance
^Best left hand of any guitarist🙄🤡🤡🤦♂️🤷♂️
Ain’t no one play like Derek. Seen him so many times and he still blows me away
When I hear the guitar being used in this way, Stevie was really good at making the instrument do it, but when the guitar is crying like this, it always makes me emotional, almost teary. Because the I know the guitar is giving its handler absolutely every ounce that it can, and that's beautiful. 😊
This brought tears to my eyes man
For the folks that don't know, that's Derek Trucks.
Eric Clapton and BB king have known him his entire life. Kid grew up surrounded by great musicians and learned from all of them.
Dereks Dad Butch was a founding member and drummer for the Allman Brothers
That is the most amazing, beautiful thing I’ve ever heard played on a guitar. Just incredible.
Amazing solo! Thanks friend!
This is a look and a face you won't get much out of John Mayer.. he's absolutely impressed with the perfect-vocal- quality and musical expression of Derek.. it's glorious in musica! John just can't help it.. he's listening and learning, humble and joyful before perfection.
0:35 is transcendental
that transcription was no joke, many thanks!
John has guitar face even when he is listening 🎶
It’s just so beautiful you can feel every note
Derek seems to have drawn some of that slide soul genius from Skydog. So good…
Such a soulful and gifted player
Derek is the only guitar hero who has literally never sang and stands in one place looking down at his guitar the whole time. I struggle with the stage presence social anxiety thing so he’s kind of my role model in the regard of just focusing my energy on the music and tuning out everything else.
I always hated that bands are sometimes more about "the look" and "stage presence" than anything else. But if you know your shit and you can play really good, stop giving a fuck about what you're doing on the stage and let the music speak for itself.
This has been the video I come back to from time to time to feel reborn. That is one beautiful fucking solo.
Derek trucks is the best guitar player alive. He had an intangible that you feel but cannot articulate.
Malmsteen??
@@SeptemberChild1835 no.
John mayer, you're so humble great guitarist... Proud of u my guitar hero
I've been playing most of my life, studied at one of the best music colleges in the world, played with many great musicians and all I can say is that was perfect. Nobody could have done that better.
Hendrix?
Beautiful! Mr. Trucks was such an integral part of the Allman Brothers sound, and an absolute master of his instrument. A true legend.
Its a killer solo :)
Fantastic! Thanks for solving EMC squared, speaking in baby, woo-ing an mass crowd, ordering door dash in weeping guitar, and single handedly stumping John and BB in the same amazing solo. 😮
The response of BB and John Mayer is truly epic. And John Mayer is a guitar master, as was BB King. Props to Derek Trucks.
If you ever wanted to see what precise, effortless, soulful, playing looks like, you just saw it.
Who is that? I love these tab videos you’re doing mate
that's Derek trucks man! a legend!
The truly greats are best equipped to recognize, acknowledge and appreciate greatness in someone else when they witness it.
Really cool with the tab. I would love to see this with "Kirk Hammets 1989 Seattle solo".
Seeing Dereck Trucks live is one of the best live shows ive been too
i dont even know what those notations mean but it sure does sound like him
Dudes phrasing has always been one of a kind
The Tedeski Trucks band is one of the best concert performers now, and they make you feel like you are part of their extended family. Torch bearers.
So few are born to play an instrument. I’ve seen him live several times and he’s just from another planet.
