This is a better place to stay than rowdy Jaco, and features an early rising surfing vibe. 15 minutes South are several communities around Playa Esterillos, which is a residential colony of expats with few restaurants or hotels. These are the best place to rent a beach house, but you won’t have entertainment amenities and need a rental car. The Northern Nicola Peninsula is entirely expats and has no hospital. Although it has gourmet restaurants and fancy resorts, the Kardashians have a mansion near the Liberia airport, the Nicoya Peninsula is under a travel advisory for healthcare fraud against injured tourists, and is not a practical destination for foreign living. Moving to Costa Rica means looking in the Capitol in Escazu, rowdy Jaco, Hermosa, or the Esterrilos areas. La Fortuna is in the middle of the country and is the best budget location for resort, mountain town living with a bar/restaurant/entertainment scene.

3:19. When was this footage taken? Los amigos has been bulldozed to the ground for awhile now. You are low balling the prices. Costa Rica is expensive people. Jaco is also probably one of the more mediocre breaks in the area. Most everyone stays in Jaco, but surfs in Hermosa. If you wanna fish make sure you call Cpt. Dana Thomas from the Hoo's your Daddy out of Los Suenos. Probably the most experienced captain in Los Suenos and a great guy. Nice vid. Pura Vida.
Jaco is one of the most low end beaches in Costa Rica, it's like Venice Beach in California (same kind of sketchy people). Sure, you'll get tropical water/beach, but the it's usually packed and you can find trash in the water too. People get things stolen at knife-point regularly also. You'll witness weird stuff and perhaps pick up on the unsafe vibe. You can drive 20 minutes further down and find the Costa Rica you're looking for imo.

David Carter, Yes, there are cheaper places. In general, the prices go down the further away you get from the towns. Also, prices are cheaper in small beach towns.

Take it from someone that lived in CR for 17 years ,now living cheaper on North Shore, Oahu. eat cheaper great Costco food, better weather, cheaper gas, elc, drinking water and way better waves, Truly nicer people. Rent is more!

That's why it doesn't make any sense financially ..only a luxury item place for ticos to get US foods. I can get a small bottle of water for 25 cents out of the vending machine in Costco, in CR the same one is 500 colones!!! And that same size bottle of water is $7 in the airport in CR! In a country where there's more water than almost anywhere ,riddle me that Riddler? CR is for sucker
We went to tamarind for two weeks, all very nice but very expensive 2 cables and two cell phone chargers and a shampoo 200 dollars and in wallmark ???? or a cable for my iphone 35 $ dollars?
Collons, if you use Dollars a lot of locals are going to take 1 dollar for 500 Collons. So you're losing a lot of money because it's clearly way more, between 575-610 this year and last year and also just for been a tourist everyone is constantly trying to raise the price for you I've seen this my entire life if you're a local something is 500 for you, you're a tourist the same thing is 1000 that's why is better if you know someone here that can go with you.
Great hamburger stand just off the beach. Young Americans work there for tips and are given a place to live behind the small restaurant. Great for surfers
It really is. CR is a lovely place full of passion and great opportunities. I would like to recommend cryptos currency. The predominant cryptocurrency btc sky rocket above $50k Start buying cryptocurrencies is good they're a huge help down the road for financial progress.
It is actually not I have been living in Costa Rica for over 10 years and with the new highway they added in like 3 to 4 years ago it is around 2 hour drive. I have driven from Jaco to San Jose over 20+ times. (It is roughly on average a 2 hour drive). I don't know if you took the mountain route which was the old route that was horrible because it was zig zag to zig zag.
You must be co rising Jaco with Guanacaste. I make the drive twice a week if you leave early or at night from San Jose the drive is 1.5 hrs . Weekends and holidays you might take 2~2.5 hrs
I traveled there for a bachelor party that lasted 7 day. Was one of the most amazing experiences I have had in my life. Pura vida!

It’s one of the ugliest beach towns with a lot of crime in CR. Better go to Tamarindo.
