  • Well folks, I got a chance to drive the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e for a week, took it on a 400 mile road trip, and experienced pubic charging networks. And well, I would hold off on this $67k attempt. My RZ Luxury tester was finished in a gorgeous Ether paint with an equally nice Thunderstorm & Macadamia NuLux Ultrasuede interior. So what’s SO wrong here?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec Sheet: Powering the RZ is a 71.4kWh battery pack of which just around 63kWh are usable. It gets dual motors for Direct4 AWD with around 308HP and 321 lb-ft of torque.
Now with the 20in wheels I had, the MAX range is 196miles by the EPA.. I barely saw 180miles even with a 2.9kWh/mile average. 🏁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
+ The build quality and design, while subjective, is solid and fresh, projecting the future of Lexus’s electrification
+Unique interior materials, a slick touchscreen, dynamic HUD, and clever radiant heating all are welcome luxuries.
-The range unfortunately is unacceptable for the price tag. I also never saw the 150kW charging speeds, with a max around 130kw sustained for just under 20% of a 10-80% charging session.
-The severe lack of on board EV data is also a huge miss for such a big company, you can’t even view battery percentage, only a guessometer range estimate.
-On my 400 mile roadtrip, I genuinely was afraid to use the climate controls or risk losing 20-30 miles of range. Radiant heating & ventilated seats were handy.
Should you buy an RZ? Well maybe with nearly $20k in discounts maybe, and if you only drive locally & are a diehard Lexus fan. Otherwise, I advise elsewhere or to a better suited Lexus Hybrid or PHEV.

I mean it's Toyota's first time joining the ev world, it'll take their time to master it. But the design and tech is very good which they improved on a lot

I wouldn’t say first time. They have been experimenting with evs for 20 years. And they chose hybrids > evs ever since. One may not recall the RAV4 EV from ages ago. They genuinely are a bit behind but so is their main market which can’t even afford the expense most EVs cost anyways so it’s fine for them. Toyota will shine if they can make solid affordable EVs. And lexus will follow suit down the road with who knows what.
But this eTNGA platform is a rushed one for sure and it shows.

@@Allcarnews A rav4 EV? Never heard of it, but Toyota's Hybrid system is good but still a bit of catching up to do

@aadishetty007 Yeah! it was made from 1997-2003 and then from 2012-2014! that second generation used a tesla motor too.

It’s a bad ev and a bad car
A good car would be attractive luxurious inside with top notch materials fit finish, great tech and luxury features, next level performance and driving dynamics
The RZ is none of those things vs say a gv60 or gv70

    • @Allcarnews
      @Allcarnews  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I would disagree with that statement. The luxury is here, it's quiet, comfortable, and has decent tech. It needs to improve on the EV info inside DRASTICALLY and needs a more modern drivers display. EV bits are not good though and that was apparent.

@@Allcarnews is the luxury better than genesis? No probably not. Genesis interiors look and feel significantly more expensive than they actually are. Not the case with the RZ.

@@naveenthemachine I’ve driven both. They both are nice. Pretty similar too. The genesis doesent even have wireless carplay but this does. Each has their strengths and weaknesses but they both are generally nice spaces. And both aren’t the best EVs for the money either. Genesis’s eGMP platform for the GV60 is vastly more advanced than the eTNGA for sure. But that isn’t the point here, we are just discussing genera luxury.
