Back when I did clean rings, I did notice if you do the regular press A rubbing, each ring has a sweet spot that cleans the ring a lot quicker so i just did that.

Short version: I think FE7 was nearly perfect in the balance between story and game, and FE8 has the kind of serious tone I'd prefer was in newer games in the series. I don't hate support convos or anything, just could do without strange ASMR wake up sequences and erotic ring cleaning if it meant the core game could be more complex and/or challenging, lol

Nowadays? You realize there are moments far worse than this in earlier games right? Have you seen any of Tethys supports from Sacred Stones? One moment she's making out in a warzone, the next she's telling a character to become a dancer like her and that he should call her mom. The weird skinship mini games can go away though.. but alot of the newer games seem to have them. Fates with the face petting and blowing into the mic, Three Houses with the sauna and tea time, and then Engage with the ring cleaning thats only benefit is just increasing bond ratings slightly.
