They are not investigators, if they have “reasonable suspicion” then they legally should go through the appropriate channels of calling the front office and having administrators handle it. At that point it would then be handed of to police if the situation warrants it. NO TEACHER HAS ANY RIGHT TO GO THROUGH YOUR PHONE
My Old High School was allowed to Take a Away a students phone either one of the following lengths: Until End of Class (Perfectly Ok) Until the end of the Day (reasonable) Until the end of the School week (99% Illegal) Until the end of Term (1000000% Illegal, right?) I am certain the last two are completely illegal but the teachers would try to. What are the max lengths and are these ok? Also I am in New Zealand so not sure if they would be different based on that. But the max length should a global law that all countries agree on.
