    It's awesome to see the younger generation keeping the old ways alive. You have no idea how much this reminded me of growing up and bream fishing with cane poles down here in south Mississippi off the Pascagoula river. I brought both my boys up doing the same. Thanks for sharing and bringing back great memories. I think it's time this old man goes fishing again! Been a year or two.

      Thanks for the words and jumping on board!! I grew up shrimping South Alabama and Mississippi. We used to unload at times in Pascagoula. Be sure to share us around down there with your Family and Friends!!

    A super long bamboo stick was the first fishing rod I ever used when I went fishing for the first time with my maternal grandfather near his home in China. I was only 7 then, but I still remember what we caught that day. Grandfather caught some big silver carp while I got a few little dace which ultimately ended up as food for Grandfather's three turtles (Grandfather told me they were doing fine when I called him 3 weeks ago). You know, I might go to the dollar store and make myself a bamboo rod when the weather gets warmer! Thank you for taking me on a trip down memory lane, good sir! Greetings from Canada!

      We used to make our own when I was a kid. Wed cut switch came and make them. I think one of these days I'm gonna bring that back to life on this channel. Those were fine poles!!!

    We use to use cain poles out of the cain patch beside the creeks. We would line all the way at the base of the cain pole then wrap the extra line around the end. Then if we needed more line we would just unwrap it. Then to act kinda like a reel we would twist the cain pole to take up the slack on a big fish. Still got them out in the barn.
    Awesome video!!!

      Absolutely. Technology has changed a lot of stuff these days, but I believe it's very important to preserve the old ways for future generations. I'm afraid they will need it one day. World is gonna be lost if we ever have a mass cellular service failure. Bad thing is, they won't be able to watch TH-cam if that ever happens. All the more reason to show the young these type videos as they grow up!!!

    Bradley: great video - you so right about the memories! We use to fish in the Macon like that until the Corps dredged it out and turned it into no more than a canal ditch from Arkansas to the Tensas - a monumental govt. disaster. No matter, the fish always seem to taste better right out of the water. By the way, I heard the locusts in the backgound - sweet summertime music. Thanks Roy

    9:10 Another good spot for hook is at the bottom of Pole. But will put a permanent bend in top end, could dull barb, tip of hook if not just right.

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's right, I just always ended up with too much line if I did that. Hard to fish long line under those tree limbs we were in. When we used to cut our own, we'd cut that came at an angle or notch it for the hook at the end. I think I'll end up eventually doing a video on making your own cane pole and show all that. The drying process and all. Be a good one for next year🤣

    That brings back so many wonderful memories!!! My family use to plan our reunions on the creek bank. Some would bring the hush puppies, some fries,cole slaw and everything that went with fish. Problem was we would skin and eat what was caught. I remember a few times that the above mentioned was all that was available to eat. Lol. Sometimes they just don’t bite ! But it was 100% always a great time. Families should get off the electronic devices and try it !

Dad took us yoyo fishing one night, me and my brother. We caught 6 mudcat and that was it. We only had potatoes for cooking. We had a grill and pot of oil. We fried the potatoes, and them was the best grilled mudcat we ever had🤣🤣🤣

      Ain't it so!!! I remember My Gramma in her 70's with cancer, and the last good memory I have was they took her to this same exact spot, fixed her a chair out in the water because she was too weak to stand and let her catch bream one last time with that cane pole. Them jokers were dead when they hit the bank🤣🤣🤣. Guess she's where I get my hook sets from. That was a good fish fry!! The Old timers survived while today we struggle

      My granny dipped that ole Levi Garret powdered snuff. She would put them finger up in the peace shape to spit. Don’t know if that was for aiming it or what. May have been for further distance ! Lol. But then she would say put your hook over there you’ll catch one ! More often than not I would.
      She to fought to the bitter end doing what she loved. Cancer takes so many loved ones !

    Amazing i need to get a cane pole i use a pencil float i take plastic straws from restaurants and pinch them on the end with pliers and burn them and it closes it on both ends and i notch a hole in it with a knife then I rub my wine through it and just tie in overhand knot and you need a decent size split shot that way it stands straight up on the water and if you just tie one over here not I’ll just stay there or you can move it up or down your line perfectly for cane pole
