The left audio channel is significantly lower than the right one, I hadn't noticed until now. Sorry about that.
It's all cool. ❤
Duality of audio it seems
Stuff those sorrys in a sack, your content is ridiculously good, regardless of a hiccup in audio. I love your videos, by far the best in the anime genre that I've seen!
naw bro, the audio is fine. Didn't notice any problems with it, your voice is freaking great and it covers any sort of problem with the audio. Ever thought of voice acting? I think you'd be great at it.
What a relief. I tought that my left ear starts going deaf.
“It’s a terrible day for rain” - Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist
Saher Mohammad 😂
Sadest part of the anime
What do you mean? It's not raining
@@austinstambene3087 it's always raining boi
@@austinstambene3087 yes, it is....
You forgot to explain why Roy lost his eyesight. Seeing the “truth” causes you to lose a part of you that defines you the most. He was a man with a vision for his country, which was why he lost his vision.
Is that how it works? All this time I thought it was just arbitrary. You learn something every day.
bigjake360t I thought about this too- Ed lost his last family, Al, their teacher lost her reproductive organs trying to resurrect her baby, etc. blew my mind how deep this show is, and I lament that this was only my 2nd anime, with everything downhill from this
Sandshark 2 watch iron blood orphans
Well, it was mentioned by Father and/or Pride: said that it's the truth's way of reminding people who get too close to god where their place actually is.
Of course Ed refuses it, because Mustang did not willingly partake in human transmutation.
It's so good because it's only mentioned by a character that might not be right at all, and dismissed by the protagonist just as fast.
It shows that there are things higher than the characters, but it doesn't stop them from trying to find their own truth.
It's what the anime's about, anyway.
Perhaps I'm also reading too deep into this, but it also speaks on another level when Riza, if albeit briefly, becomes his eyes for the final battle. Riza's always been characterized as a bit of his lifeline, and she was willing to become anything he needed, but also wouldn't let him lose himself (like with Envy/Lust).
I love how, in the larger scheme of things, Mustang is the protagonist.
More like Hohenheim
@Dune -Z That's a convincing argument. In the end, FMA:B is a story where multiple individuals with unique objectives find their respective paths intertwining.
there are multiple protagonists but you get the impression rewatching the show Mustang is Arakawa's husbandu
Yea man in the end Roy became the Hokage
I mean the Pirate King
I mean the Fuhrer
@Dune -Z This is why FMAB is one of the greatest animes ever
Roy Mustang. the best 'Not Main Character' Main Character.
True Potential but he IS. he is listed as a tritagonist on official sites, together with Ed and Al
@@shepardcommander5174 he is listed as a supporting character in My Anime List
@@namelessmonster2583 look at fma.fandom, he is listed as Tritagonist. I wouldn't believe myanimelist tho😅
Zuko imo, but Roy is up there
Bruh hearing such a badass and strong character like Riza openly admit not only to Roy but also Ed and company that she planned on killing herself if Roy died hit me a little too deep man.
It's not only because she cares about Roy. It's because she only lives to atone for her genocide in Ishval , if Roy dies then there will be no Fuhrer who will change the country in good, she will be completely eaten by guilt and ultimately kill herself
Incognito bruh you just made it hit DEEPER
@@claudiu6387 The manga expressed that more clearly than the anime and its heartbreaking.
Plus, Riza's father literally burdened her with the secrets of flame alchemy on her back, instead of destroying his notes. She couldn't bear someone else creating more flame alchemists. I liken it to learning to build an atom bomb!
he was an Orphaned at a young age, Roy was adopted by Chris Mustang(madame Christmas) his father's younger sister, who brought him up with the intention of making him into a fine gentleman. Because she owned a bar with prostitutes he was always surrounded my flirtatious woman and became a playboy. sometime in his teenage years he discovered a talent for alchemy and was introduced to Berthold hawkeye by Chris and later met Riza.
I think there's also a parallel to be drawn between him and Bradley. Wraths strength is his ultimate eye, his ability to see weaknesses- the 'fault' in people. While Mustang, as you said, sees the 'good' in everyone despite their faults. That's what makes a leader and why his arc in taking over from Bradley holds significance to me.
I agree! Even their names are parallel, since “Roy” can also mean king (french: “le roi”).
This is an under appreciated comment
It's hard to listen to Riza's suicide confession. Hits deep every time. Though, I do prefer the manga translation where she says her "body will leave this world." Because it has a double meaning to it in that she wants to erase the flame alchemy on her back that "brings insanity to men." In addition to claiming countless lives in Ishval, it plunged her father into madness. And now, it was on the verge of doing the same to Roy. Heavy stuff.
Without the colonel, she has no reason to live. Both due to their personal connection, and because his vision to ascend to Fuhrer is their mutual path to atonement and a better future. Without one, that path fails. And there's no reason to continue. This scene heavily enforces that. Without Roy, there would be no vision. And without Riza, there would be no conscience. She keeps him on the straight and narrow in his path to power. If she wasn't there to keep her promise as his conscience and executioner, he'd have murdered Envy. Then, as Scar said, the world would be run by a man controlled by hate. In some ways, I think such a world would be even worse than a world ruled by an apathetic Father.
Really, this is a beautiful and layered scene on many levels.
Roy Mustang became one of my favorite character on the anime and as a whole even when he’s cold but Roy show compassion to his friends and teammates. Even when he join the Military and war he’s still show like a person and soldiers but I was happy that he became the leader of the country
They did him dirty with the stache though 😭
Roy and Riza is the best couple we never had
“I look forward to the day those eyes become wide with agony”

What I find interesting is that she was right, it did happen.
Im gonna rewatch the serie, who's with me.
imad jouhri already on it
Watching the original
@@pedroclaro7822 i am rewatching brotherhood atm and noticed that some of the early scenes with Mustang (like the first time he meets Ed and Al at the Train station after recruiting them years ago, where he shows his flame alchemy for the first time) are missing? I only remember this because i read some chapters of the manga and i know this scene was also in the original anime. I wonder why they left so much stuff from the beginning out, and also so much more Ishval stuff/Mustang background stuff we could have seen in the anime😕 i just wish there were more scenes of him😂
im skipping the first 10 eps since im not ready to cry
@@aurangzaibkhan67 he got it back tho
Roy mustang is definitely one of my favorite characters of all time. First I was digging his silly personality and unfunny jokes and all but as tge show progressed he just developed to become epic af
Theories say that Roy Mustang was the perfect vessel for Father's sin of wrath. Given Roy's nature to protect the ones he loves, the built up rage inside of him, the wrathful eyes he gives to who have gone too far and we see the true glimpse of his fire alchemy against lust and envy, I can see that theory. King Bradley was barely scratching the surface of being wrath. Bradley was a test subject for scientists ever since he was a baby. He doesn't have his own name, and true purpose. King Bradley was just alias given to him once he barely survive the transformation with only one soul in the philosopher stone.
Given what we know about psychology, I can definitely say that Bradley would be a more wrathful individual. He was raised in a situation with zero affection, and it was cut throat. He had to compete, and fight, and use cunning to survive. Would he not feel wrath and hatred toward those who forced him to kill the only family he knew?
@@Tmanowns I see your point.
There is a fan fiction wrriten on that. It's pretty good.
Agreed. Roy is the element of Fire personified. He's warm and caring and protective, but he can also rage out of control and be incredibly destructive. I'd say most if not all of the Main characters embody at least one the Sins in some fashion.
Ed-Pride
Al- (I admit it, I can't think of anything :-P)
Roy-Wrath
Izumi/Riza-Despair
Ling-Greed
Winry- Wrath (towards Scar)
Scar- Wrath/Revenge
You ignore the fact that fire doesnt mean just destruction or wrath, it can mean life, light and warmth too; its neccesary for life itself, light permit us to see in the dark and warmth can change the matter as the transformation of raw meat to a cook one, or just the feeling wholeness
(Srry for the jank english lel)
We need a sequel series of FMA seeing Roy as King
No, we musn't have it
I'm fine with him being a symbolic king
I wish but a sequel won’t be as good as the original I don’t want them to mess up a masterpiece. Maybe like a post ending episode or something
At least an ova, I want to see riza and roy getting married
Haven't clicked on a video that fast in a long time. I'm a simple lady. I see Sage posted a video about one of my favorite anime characters of all time, I click. Absolutely love any and all content you put out, Sage. Thank you for blessing us all.

6:03: Roy actually did get his eyesight back in the manga, because Tim Marcoh offered him the means to heal it if Mustang returned the Ishvalans to their homes and allowed the good doctor to move there as a healer; an offer in which the Colonel accepted.
Amazing video. While it is never explicitly shown in the manga, it is suggested that he gets his eyesight back in the same way as the anime. At the end of the manga, Dr. Marcoh offers Mustang a philosopher's stone to heal his eyesight under the condition that he helps the Ishvalan people once he becomes fuhrer, and Mustang accepts.
FMA:B is and will always be in my top five anime. Literally one of the best anime, and best shows in history
you an intellectual: *does deep analysis on roy mustangs character*
me: i just like flames
While I like Roy in Brotherhood, I'm disappointed in the fact that barely anyone even talks about his 2003 counterpart. Which is a shame because I think he's equally if not more complex than Mangahood Roy.
Mustang form FMA03 is just such a fascinating character to me and really helps highlight one of the biggest differences between Mangahood and 03: in the first the main characters are heroes, people to look up to - in spite of their past mistakes, they are shown in an unambiguously positive light (it’s even more prevalent in BH than in the manga itself though), whereas in the latter... they’re not. In 03 our main characters aren’t what you’d describe as “heroes”, they’re flawed, messed up people forced to make tough, messed up choices - you’re not supposed to emulate them, but rather learn from their mistakes. In 03 Roy clearly suffers from both PTSD and depression, as well as implied alcoholism. He hates himself and believes that “the end justifies the means” - so long as he eventually becomes the Fuhrer, he’ll be able to atone for his sins, which is why he has no problem using others for his own gain, why he doesn’t try to avenge Hughes or why doesn’t really work against even after being ordered to basically kill the Elrics. There’s a problem with Roy’s viewpoint however and that is: the system is already corrupt beyond salvation - even if Roy were to become the Fuhrer, he can’t change the rules if he’s forced to obey by them at the same time. People say that in 03 Mustang eventually chooses revenge over his goal, the opposite of what happens in mangahood, but it’s simply not true - by the end of 03 Roy is finally forced to face the truth - that end DOESN’T justify the means, that he can’t let Bradley’s actions go unpunished, that in order to create a better future for Amestris, he has to destroy the system, even if that costs him his dream. And that’s another important thing - if Roy were to keep quiet and wait, he’d have to admit to himself that his goal of becoming the Fuhrer is a selfish one. That he’s doing it for himself and not the country. He’s forced to choose between doing what’s right and getting what he wants, or rather, BELIEVES he wants. Because if you think about it, 03 Roy doesn’t actually desire to rule, to make the decisions for a whole country - what he wants is redemption, to justify his next breath, as he tells Hughes. And that’s another big theme: characters getting what they need, but not necessarily what they want - Roy cannot bring Winry’s parents back or undo the Ishbal Massacre, but by killing Bradley he’s finally able to atone for being blind for so long, for following unreasonable orders. This is his redemption. In 03 Roy & Ed act as foils to one another. They both start out as blind idealists (there was no Order 3066 in 03, so Roy fooling himself into believing that it was a just war is far easier), slowly become disillusioned with the world and especially the military, but still use it to further their own goals with little regard for the outside world (Ed’s often overlooked greatest sin - sloth), only to eventually admit that there are more important things than one’s dreams (ep 48). At the beginning Roy sees Ed as nothing more than a potential tool, but once he realizes the similarities he starts to act as a semi father figure to him. The problem, of course, being that Roy is a broken man himself and more of a cautionary tale of what Ed can become (there’s a reason Ed drinks himself to sleep in CoS after a fight with Heidrich) - Roy tries to simultaneously protect Ed’s innocence (Liore, Hughes) and prepare him for the grim reality (Nina, Tucker’s research) because, while he doesn’t want Ed to become him, he has no idea how to go about it - should he destroy Ed’s naive idealism or try to protect him? In the end, Mustang’s actions only serve to distance the two characters, until the very end - and isn’t it just so poetic that the first time they come to an understanding is also their farewell?
I really appreciate this comment, because I totally agree with it. Roy is my favorite character in both series, and people really don't talk about his role in 2003 enough. He's trying to be a good person in that series to, and his character and arc are so complex and interesting
Probably my favorite series - not anime series, just series. I wish I could pick every favorite character or favorite scene but every time I watch it so many start to overwelm me.
He may have lost physical use of those eyes, but Roy did NOT lose those eyes. They still sit in his sockets, as blind as justice.
Roy Mustang is my favourite anime character EVER. Since I first saw him in Fullmetal alchemist all those years ago..I was so amazed. This is a amazing and glorious character. Absolutely fantastic
Here's something I love about Fullmetal Alchemist: I'm looking through the comments and I haven't seen anybody repeating information. In many other pieces of media or character analyses, there are like one or two prices of trivia that everybody points out. Here, everyone has something different to say and I think that really speaks to the depth of Fullmetal Alchemist
I consider Roy Mustang one of my very perfect anime characters list along with Kakashi, Itachi and Spike Spiegel Great character writing-brilliant mentality-strength-skills-especially sacrifice ❤️
Roy mustang is my favorite fictional character so thank you for creating this great analysis. Your insights and narration are wonderful and a pleasure to listen too.
"On that day, all female officers will be required to wear *TINY MINISKIRT* !!"
my guy i swear you are too underrated to be this good
Nice to see people still making videos on fma brotherhood just finished my second watching last week
FMAB is probably my fav anime series but i'm disappointed with how much they left out about the Ishvalen war. They were really good at keeping most other stuff so im not sure why they cut so much out for that part
Btw love your voice it has a solemn time which fits well with this type of videos
this series is one my favourites
This is only the second video analysis I've seen about Roy Mustang, and I'm sooo pleased that you've shared this with everyone! I've seen a lot of your A:tLA videos, and I'd love seeing more FMA vids, as well! Thanks.
Years later and there's still video essays about my favorite show coming out, good.
Glad to watch another video. Thanks for uploading again. Keep up the good workA
What an amazing perspective on the character. Thank you for sharing it.
Imagine how proud Riza's father would be of both Roy and Riza. He definitely doesn't regret leaving his alchemy in Riza's hands, since she made the righr choice to show Roy her back
This was a great video and an even better analysis of a character. Thank you.
I am someone who felt... Weird when Roy was given his sight back. It felt cheap, almost like the sacrifice meant less. But Sage put it so eloquently, that I can't help but shift my opinion. The initial impact of the sacrifice of his eyes isn't lessened, but the consequences of that decision are. Nevertheless, Roy should be able to see his accomplishments. Because they aren't just his, they're his teams.
Some may say that it's selfish, or morally wrong to have used the stone crafted using the souls of the Ishval. No doubt. But it's also an imperfect bow that wraps around the oblong gift. Roy Mustang isn't one man. He is one imperfect piece, that matches the rest of the picture that is his team.
I also think it goes back to the logic that Al was told when he was convinced to use one. That they're already gone, but can be used by someone who respects them, and puts their sacrifice to use, and does some good.
In addition, Mustang didn't willingly see the Gate. Had he done so of his own volition, that would be different.
@@Tmanowns No , sorry , that stone could have been used to heal the Ishvaliens who got hurt during the genocide , to regain their lost limbs or their sickness.
Being blind is *a very small punishment* for killing thousands of innocent people
Roy doesn't have any right to use the souls of the people he genocided , he's basically a nazi
@@claudiu6387 I mean, yes, it can be used for that. Ultimately, using the stone to restore Roy's eyesight is unlikely to completely use the stone.
@@Tmanowns I know that , but just think how many injured ishvaliens are after the war. I think that the stone should be used just for their sake. Roy should have remained blind , he wasn't punished in the slightest for commiting genocide
FMA is such a great show, great analysis!
I love Roy and his character, Also what I really fine interesting is J solf kimbly and his idles and when he talk about it with the el rick brothers I find that really interesting and even when he talk's to Mustang,Haweye, Hughs in the war about killing is there job. Every video you put out is a banger
Another banger of a video finding so solace the rain
This channel deserves so much more subs
I've never had an emotional response from any other anime. The seen when Edward is in the doorway of truth and he tells Alphonse he's coming back for him it gave me chills. I love the over arcing theme of the story and the characters are amazing.
You always make great videos keep up the work
Damn this was beautiful. Well done!👍
6:13 In the manga, he gained his eyesight back. Dr. Marco was the one who wanted Mustang to revive Ishbal. He needed to be dismissed from the military if he was blind.
I love the way he first introduced into the series
Hope your staying safe during these dark times man, great video as always 🙂
.
P.S: can u make a video on steins gate or people from the show like okabe and kirusu. That would be lovely 🙏
Scar also snapped Roy out of his irrationality, because like him he also killed blindly and was cursed by it. Scar broke the cycle of hatred and didn't want Roy to go down the same path he did. Roy Mustang somehow reminds me of Hashirama Senju from Naruto in the way that he cares for others as a leader whereas Wrath or Fuhrer Bradley is more like Madara Uchiha in how he only focuses on himself and his own goals and ambitions, never once considering other people or other nations.
Scar tried to reason with Roy, but the only one who snapped him out of his rage was Riza, and even she had to resort to putting her life in Roy's hands, forcing him to chose between his love for her and hate for Envy.
Keep up the good work, I love your content.
i love these
You should do videos about Dante and Vergil (Devil May Cry)
I love it. The power of the flame. The flame had a huge affect.
He's one of the most realistic character I ever watch in anime series. Like...being a Roy Mustang in real life is possible.
I choose to re-watch FMA Brotherhood for the nth-teenth time on a good week. There's been multiple videos about it. I absolutely love how the fan-base is still going strong!
