I think you’ll have to call the embassy to change the DS-160 number for you to the new one. They will ask you for the new number so have it ready. After, a new confirmation page will be sent to you, you’ll have to print the new confirmation page with the new DS-160 number. Hope this helps

for me the experience is different. When i enter the application id, last name, DOB and security answer, I get an option to either retrieve the confirmation page or start a new application. My page doesnt go straight into the fields to change values

No, just login and click on update profile then u can copy in the new ID from your DS 160 form, u don't need to book another appointment dear.
