    That actually looks pretty good - nicely done! I'm thinking about making a diffuser myself, so probably will need to do some cutting.

    Really enjoying the vids. One of those channels that pop up regularly but didn't realise was new, very good! Hope to see a boosted miata build with your level of detail :)

      We will be doing a 1.8 swap in my car shortly and boosting after that! Idk if that boost series will be very "how to" though, we might make the Turbo How To series on Matt's car. We'll see. Thanks for watching, and if we are "popping up" regularly hopefully that means youtube is suggesting our videos more, thats awesome!

    should put a light on it at the end so we can see it; all you can see is black & shadows

    Looks great, fellas! The cuts you made look like they would accommodate a diffuser too. That would be a project I would love to see! ;)

      Thank you man! I would like one eventually too maybe, not something I'm going to do right away though, I'll be cutting a bit more out in a few months tho when we paint the car =P Might have to try a DIY diffuser eventually.

    Very nice video guys and I like your approach! Taking the whole bumper off seems to be the easy way, good to know! Question tho, there seems to be a small tube running along the inner plastic part. Any idea what that is?

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! Its the wires for the signal lights in the bumper, you do need to unplug that on the right side when dropping the bumper, I forgot to mention it but it should be pretty obvious to anyone that starts the project! It also was not in the way at all during any of the cutting etc.

    Taking the entire bumper skin and support off is definitely the way to go if you're not going to cut the bumper on the car.
    No sense in messing with tails lights that don't leak and a finish panel that's in one piece.

    I love the videos guys. my heater core hose blew yesterday on my 1992 miata. the small one that goes from the firewall to the back of the engine. can you guys make a video of how to replace that

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeremy Simonsen Uh oh! Bummer! I could, but if I did it wouldn't be up for a few days. It is a pretty simple job to tackle, just two hose clamps and the hose! My advice would be to remove/pull back the clamps, and then use a razor box cutter etc to cut the hoses and make them easy to pull off the pipes.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also your lucky its easier on a 1.6, take off your coil pack on the back of the valve cover and it will give you access to the back side where that hose goes so you can remove and replace it easier!

    • @simonsen686jeremy
      @simonsen686jeremy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GearHeads Garage thanks man! I will try that tip. I just picked up my replacement hose from oreilly. I appreciate the help and will get it done and let you know how it went. thanks again.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeremy Simonsen Yes let me know man! Like I said pull off the ignition coils and bracket, its 2 bolts up top and one in the middle down in the back, then you'll have access to the hose, might be a pain to get at the clamp, just have patience and pull the clamps back, then like I said cut the hose and itll come off easy, then put it all back together!

    • @simonsen686jeremy
      @simonsen686jeremy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GearHeads Garage seriously thanks, I did not think k about removing the ignition coil to have better access and to cut the old tube to make it easier so thank you for saving me from getting frustrated and saving me more time

  • @Kjodienda
    @Kjodienda 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok guys, I used your video today to cut my bumper. Great job by you, and everything turned out as advertised. I gotta tell you though, the bottom end of the bumper mounting brackets look like a couple of blunt fangs just hanging there. Would there be any structural consequences I were to cut those things to let's say, just under the bottom set of mounting holes?

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don't do anything besides stick down and attach to the bumper, nothing importantly structural that I can think of that would make much difference. I know a lot of people cut them off and I may do so myself in the future as well. Thank you and I'm glad you found the video helpful!

    • @Kjodienda
      @Kjodienda 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What grinder wheel attachment would one use for that. The grinder I used is not mine, and I don't want to screw it up...

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EDIT: My bad you meant the frame pieces idk why I assumed the bumper lol. But a cutting blade should work, that metal is kind of thick there though so you might go through a couple. Go to the hardware store and just grab a couple Metal cutting wheels.

  • @ThisMarv
    @ThisMarv 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would really like to see that bumper with more light. Even better with dailight. Either it's my display or your garage light, but it isn't really good to see for me.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      M4NOOB My apologies. Like I mentioned in the end of the video, I think I also am going to do a more aggressive cut in the future, I was expecting it to show more than it really did, even when standing outside behind the car looking at it! If you go to our Instagram page there is a picture there displaying it a little better.

    • @ThisMarv
      @ThisMarv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome, a brigther picture was all I wanted! Tbh I would only go wider. To me the height looks good. But everyone likes something different. I'm curious how it would look. Also now you have a reason to keep your exhaust clean :D

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I'm going to go about an inch higher, you can't even tell from behind the car unless your kneeling or standing 20ft back!

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cloverof4 Haha you guys used the box cutter method right? But it worked! truth is you hardly see it from walking around the car anyways

    • @michael.carrot
      @michael.carrot 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol! Yeah. Box cutter in low lighting at midnight haha. It honestly came out pretty well, we just have some finishing touches to take care of :P

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cloverof4 gonna sand and smooth it out like we did? and hey if it turned out well then it worked! thats all that matters

    • @michael.carrot
      @michael.carrot 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, we're going to file it down and put a rubber trim around it We're just holding off because his bumper needs to be repainted anyways, and figured we'd take care of it all at once

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cloverof4 Yea I'm actually gonna cut mine bigger but I'm waiting since we'll paint it soon :P

  • @jamieee321
    @jamieee321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Someone put a fog light in my rear bumper and made a bad job of it. I am going to cut that out. I will definitely keep the curve of the exhaust "port" and mimic it on the other side. If you're going to smooth yours out a bit I would make a paper template to draw the curve onto the bumper and then use something like a coping saw and sand paper to make the curve as accurate as possible. That's how I plan on cutting mine.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good suggestions, we mostly made mine a straight cut up to the points we measured out and marked on the tape, it looks even and is smooth since we sanded it with the grinder, I'm likely going to cut a bit more out of the sides and add some curve to it, as well as make the cut further up on the bumper as well to make it a bit more aggressive. The templates are a great idea, I'll keep that in mind!

    • @jamieee321
      @jamieee321 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GearHeads Garage yeah. If you get round to doing that before me, I'd like to see how that works out. I would just use a pair of scissors or something and keep cutting curves until the template looks right, then use tape to hold it in position while I draw around and take measurements of the position for the other side. That'd be my approach.

    • @MiataMods
