    I need to do another yarn stash organization because my yarn room’s a mess. Should I do an in depth look at my yarn stash……….or is that insane, lol? 😂 let me know if I should film it! 👇🏻

      A video about yarn stash might show some helpful tips for organizing our own yarns for easier project planning - ex: like fibers, weights... Another thoughtful video - thank you

    My yarn stash brings me great joy, the colors, textures, and selecting what to use for a project. As far as hobbies go, crochet is not expensive. Most of my projects are donated to various charities, so it is a win-win. Just two years ago, I didn't know about mill ends, mystery boxes, and of the yarn companies that offer great prices and so many different kinds of yarn. My yarn stash brings me joy and joy for those who receive the handmade gifts of love. Every week, I go through my stash, enjoying each and every skein.

      @ShannonTalksYarn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That is absolutely wonderful! I’m so glad you’ve been able to utilize great deals to make charitable projects! It’s like a triple blessing: some received a handmade gift, you get the joy of creating a gift for someone & you are surrounded by an activity/item that brings you joy!

    I agree with you 100% I'm so tired of other people saying they don't want to show their yarn stash or talk about their yarn collection because of people on the internet and the comments they get. Those people don't matter and should be responded to in the way you addressed everything in this video. Good for you and thank you. Enjoy your craft and don't let others discourage you everyone!

      Hello there new soul sister!!!! I couldn’t agree more with you! I bought it, why should I be ashamed of it!?!???!? Doesn’t make any sense lol. Thank you so much for watching and commenting ❤️❤️❤️

    I love the way your background looks. A wonderfully yarn centered Christmas wall decor.
    Yes! Yarn and making projects is our entertainment.
    I don't have any yarn lover friends in my real everyday life. I do like the idea of having a place to donate my yarn stash when I can no longer make use of it.

    I’ve been blessed over the years that none of my family has been negative about my yarn stash. In fact, it’s me that always says, “ I have too much yarn, I need to get rid of some yarn.” Sometimes I get a comment from my husband but he also encourages the behavior so he doesn’t count😂I get completely overwhelmed with any clutter.
    Agree that a lot of people don’t understand, even the money side of things. Example, in most cases, it takes 12+ skeins (more or less,depending) just to make an Afghan. People who don’t knit/crochet don’t understand how much yarn can go into 1 project.
    Buying the supplies for just knitting and crocheting is a lot cheaper than all of the other hobbies I have. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and giving those who may be shamed, that they aren’t alone. Have a wonderful day☺️

      Good morning Cyd! I’m glad your husband is supportive! He seems like it, he does occasionally bring you home fiber from work, and he did get you that tour of the cotton gin!
      I suppose you’re right!!! Spinning wheels are not cheap are they? 😂 I inherited my weaving loom but I’m assuming they aren’t free either!!! You’re amazing tho, and I’m super excited about our secret upcoming adventure together! 😃

    • @SweetpeaCydsInspirations
      @SweetpeaCydsInspirations 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ShannonTalksYarn That he is! We have recently talked about taking a tour at a textile warehouse. Hot him interest in taking a tour😂 Yes Spinning wheel’s are not cheap! For a good quality, you will be spending at least $500+. Plus greasing equipment, fibers, etc. unless you get an antique. The weaving loom I believe you have, newer could be $3,000+. But also gardening, fishing, homesteading, you can definitely run into some money.
      I am very excited about our new adventure together!! ☺️☺️ Ever so Happy you have asked!

    So, so, so many thoughts... This is me chatting back with you!
    First, NO ONE would deny an oil painter their paints. We crocheters cannot "mix paints" - instead, we have the yarn available to us. Key words "available to us" - we are bound by the limitations of what fibers, weights, and colors are created and accessible to us. This is our "paint". A painter can combine blue and yellow in varying ratios and get an infinite number of colors. We do not have that ability. Thus, we stash.
    Second, you make a good point about the price of other hobbies. A good friend of mine is an avid gardener, her husband is an avid hunter (match made in heaven, hunter/gatherer!) She and husband BOTH allow that those hobbies, while they can literally feed the family, are also expensive, perhaps even wasteful (hailstorm on your tomatoes? Fish just aren't biting?) To your point about athletic hobbies, very few "players" make money off their sports, which means they are average at best, which means they're in it for the joy. No shame for them, so none for us, either!
    Love the thoughts of figuring out where the yarn could go when our time on this earth is over. I have certainly been the ONE random family member who appreciates the craft, and as such, I have a profound connection to my great grands every time I use their tools.
    Your argument about stocking a stash like you stock a pantry is economical, resourceful, and reflects good stewardship.
    I like you. Let's be friends. 😂❤

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I love your painting analogy that’s such a good way to describe it! Any your also right about other people not getting paid for their hobby, we definitely have that opportunity. I felt kind of bad bringing up the idea of where the yarn goes when we no longer need it 😬 but it turns out that’s a common complaint of family members! And for the record, you’re stuck with me now, Friend!!! ❤️❤️❤️

    My husband plays guitar. So he spends A LOT of money on his hobby! He's also an enabler and doesn't care what I buy for any of my hobbies lol. I've already told him what to do with all my stuff if I die. I want it to be donated to people for free and not a thrift store.

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s so awesome that your spouse gets it!!!! I’m pretty fortunate in that aspect too. I don’t know know much about guitars but I’m betting they cost more than yarn lol! 😂 😂😂

    Im organizing my stash as i listen to your video. I feel so lucky to enjoy my fiber arts obsession (passion). It hurts when my daughter calls me a hoarder. I have a huge box set aside for donations of yarns that no longer make my heart happy. As i go through each item, im smiling as i think of all the possibilities. Thank you for your video!!!

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Stacy! I know it hurts that she doesn’t understand, but it sounds like you’ve actually got a good handle on your yarn stash if you’re in there organizing and have created a donate box. The fact that you used the phrase “no longer make my heart happy” tells me you aren’t a hoarder because you are looking at the individual yarns objectively not just feeling like you need all the yarns. Hang in there, you’re doing great! ❤️❤️❤️

    I find that these kinds of comments happen in so many hobbies. I'm a gamer who recently learned to do amigurumi crochet- I was always told my gaming was a waste of time and money, even though it's a creative outlet for me. Now I get told the same things about buying yarn and crochet books/patterns. I love doing both and I feel like amigurumi has done so much for my mental health!
    Meanwhile the people who tell me I'm wasting my time and money spend 15-20 dollars daily buying coffees at Starbucks...adding the weekly cost of that up, all I can think is that I spend less on yarn in a month than they do on coffee in a week! I'm a responsible adult, why do they care if I buy yarn?
    Thankfully my family understands. My mom bought me a big pack of pastel yarn for Christmas. And my dad gets inspired for his own art looking at my creations.

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That is awesome that your immediate family gets it! And for the record, neither crochet or gaming are a waste of time. Both are good for you! The people who are disagreeing, are definitely misinformed or uninformed. But it doesn’t really make it sting any less when they say it! Hang in there and keep enjoying your activities!

    I was called insane when I did cardmaking...now it's the same with my crocheting and knitting. I loved being able to shop from my stash during lockdown. I had 3 gorgeous cardigans for my baby granddaughter but my daughter said she didn't need them 😢 broke my heart. None of my kids want me to make anything. They prefer stuff from a store. So now I make myself cardigans 😊
