In the recording, Russ said he thought: she was forging checks to cover up her financial problems, she had killed her first husband, she was cheating on him, and that she had given him sleeping pills on multiple occasions.
Guys usually fiercely protect that area when they sleep. My ex slept in a fetal position with his hands held down in the groin area. Not because of anything I ever did…he always slept with one or both hands on that body part. Even if he was stretched out on his back …one arm would be over his head and the other arm or hand would be holding onto it. My point is, it’s natural instinct for a man to protect his jewels and she’s full of crap with that explanation.

My sister's been married four times. The first husband died in a motorcycle accident, the second one she divorced, the third one committed suicide, and she's been married over 20 years to the fourth husband.

Yea this murder was also done by a woman I worked with. The police investigated but said it was a “hunting accident “. She was never charged but stole money while she was working in a synagogue, she was fired. She drugged up her husband to the point he couldn’t function. When police went to investigate her on the embezzlement, she escaped back to her home state. She was finally charged because she was finally caught stealing from seniors. Finally served prison time.

Wonder what happened to her two sons, Brian and Jason?? I assume they were teenagers when she killed her second husband. When I hear stories of criminals who happened to be parents, I always wonder what happens to the children. Do the grandparents become their guardians? Were they assigned to live in a foster family? I just learned of the most heinous murder which took place two days ago in Whittier CA. Andrea Vasquez, raped, abducted, and killed by Gabriel Esparza -- the son of an L.A. County fire captain. A random attack, with confession, yet he's pleading not guilty. He attacked her while she was in a car with her BF at a park. The boyfriend ran away apparently, to get help? I'm perplexed! Dr. Grande, can you help shed light on this crazy story?
I honestly watched too many crime videos. if someone has too many people around dying of unnatural causes, I automatically assume that person is killing them.

How did the police decide that accidental was the most logical thing. I mean didnt they test HER hands for gun residue after they found none on his? It seems illogical to me given how often the spouse IS the killer that they would not check this.
My dad was in the same graduating class as Barbara Stager. It's scary to think what could have happened if he had married her instead of my mom. I mean obviously the greatest tragedy would be that I would never have been born.
I've seen this case on ID many times. She was an interesting person. I especially liked her story about her getting a huge advance for supposedly writing a book. LOL A book about what?

This case was featured on New Detectives. Its very sad that the two men realized everything that was going on and still chose to stay with her and lose their lives.
Poor russ. Thats one of those situations ya know? You ask your girlfriend "so youve been married before, what happened? Yall get divorced?" "No he accidentally shot himself" No red flags there....im not a conspiracy theorist. I believe everything i hear.
Hey Dr. Grande🥰 Thank you for the new video! I can already tell that this case is going to hit me hard bc my husband passed away exactly 2yrs to the day after 1 of our daughters did. I'm trying SO SO HARD, but it's been hard to get traction in my life bc then a few years ago, I was robbed at gunpoint & shot in the chest. It was one traumatic event after the next. Your & my beliefs align when it comes to that❤️ Please take care of yourself & stay safe. Sending you all the love, hugs & healing vibes in the world🙏❤️
This case was notorious, resulting in a TV movie based on it with Jaclyn Smith (against type) portraying Barbara Stager. It was memorable because, Dr. Grande, it is a companion to your analysis, IMHO. It was also a well remembered segment of a *_Deadly Women_* episode. While I usually just applaud your well crafted puns, your analysis is spot on. She is guilty beyond any reasonable doubt.
Heard about this case before. She's definitely guilty. The fact that the cops so casually swallowed the accidental discharge BS is disturbing. Genuine accidental discharges are very rare, and are usually done by clueless kids.
I knew the Stagers back in the 80s. I determined pretty quickly that Russ was a cool guy and that Barbara didn't have much personality. That's all I know.
So because there was no gunshot residue on his hands, the ONLY plausible explanation is that the gun shot him itself 😳 and here I was thinking the police aren't your friends😂
The more I hear of these cases involving couples makes me happy I am long term single as you never know what can happen pariculary for those that are desperate to find love, at least my ex wife never tried to kill me
Thank you for your well thought out and insightful analysis of these delicate topics Dr Grande. I always enjoy your balanced viewpoint compared to social media dramatisation of events. Can you please look at the recent furore over the Spanish football Chiefs kissing of a player. He says her body language meant she consented to the kiss. Given that she absolutely denies any consent was involved...I would love your opinion on this and whether his resignation would be an appropriate action. Thank you again.
What makes people stay with destructive partners? Looking from the outside, it's easy to have an outsider's perspective. But I wonder what sort of emotional and rational thought processes blind people to the danger.
The most dangerous time with a destructive partner is when your getting ready to leave. Especially, where kids are involved. That said, a lot of these people are consummate actors and very manipulative. There’s also a cycle that takes place. The honeymoon where everything is wine and roses. The build up, where “stress” will build up until there’s the explosion of violence, followed by the “apology stage”, where “it won’t happen again” and then you end back up at the honeymoon stage. The cycle continues like this until there’s no more honeymoon and no more apologies. You don’t necessarily see that cycle at first because it’s few and far between. Because of that its difficult to tell your in the frying pan while IN the pan until the flames are constantly at high temperatures. The one looking into the frying pan has the advantage of watching the flame get turned on and grow higher. While looking in, your not caught up in the emotions of hoping “things will get better” because he’s not like all the time. I never dreamed I would be in the frying pan. I spent two years trying to figure out HOW to get out alive when his whole personality turned into someone I didn’t recognize and he became increasing violent. They also spend a lot of time conditioning you to “accept” their behavior. I was also in a “no fault” divorce state and due to our unique circumstances, was told by my lawyer HE was going to get the house, the kids, the cars and child support and alimony and it didn’t matter if he was abusive and threatening to kill us all if I left him. I almost didn’t get out. I lost everything. But I’m alive and so are my children. Not just alive, but thriving. He on the other hand, not so much. When your in frying pan, you just don’t know HOW to get out of it. The terror takes over and clouds your judgement. A restraining order isn’t worth the paper it’s written on and our justice system cares more if you assault a complete stranger than it does if you assault your spouse. Despite having a mandatory 2 year sentence for domestic violence perpetrators (in our state) it was rarely enforced. Society shakes their head but then blames for the victims for being victims. They don’t understand the extent of emotional and psychological abuse and conditioning that takes place in these relationships along with the actual violence. In my case, I had no where to go. It’s even worse when the kids are manipulated to take the abusers side against the victim despite being victimized themselves. I hope this helps explain why “just leaving” isn’t as easy when your in frying pan. Dangerous people are deadly when you try to escape. Overcoming the emotional manipulation is a cliff too high for many too climb…until it’s too late. Unfortunately, without a lot of counseling, a lot of victims will just go on to find another controlling abuser. My mother believed she could “reform” her abusers and spent most of her life looking for one loser after another. It’s the definition of insanity.
@@little1942 Thanks for your detailed explanation. I'm glad you are doing well. I didn't mean to imply that leaving is easy - not at all. These videos often focus on the perpetrators of crimes and their psychological backgrounds. That in itself is helpful to learn what to look for in avoiding certain types of people - if it were that easy. But I also wonder what psychological traits might lead to becoming a victim Some insight would be helpful for self-reflection.
@@ajnasreddin I’m not sure it’s a “psychological” trait but a vulnerability one. Which can happen anytime you bond yourself to another human being. But if your already in a more vulnerable position (suffering loss, just lonely, or have kids with the person- or just a sexual relationship) your guard is down and you may not be able to see the possible indicators of abusive personalities. And as I said, a lot of these people are consummate actors. Sadly, abuse happens across all societal strata. It’s not a poor or ill educated problem. It’s too bad they don’t wear signs! Edit: one more thing I should mention. Substance abuse. Quite often, substance abuse takes place LATER in the relationship and turns a loving person into a monster. That’s what happened in my case. I just didn’t know that was the problem until after I left. There’s no indicators for that. Which is another reason why I say it can happen to anyone.
Thank you, Dr. Grande! I always enjoy your videos. I recently read that men commit violent crimes more than three times as often as women (U.S. Department of Justice). Assuming that’s true, why do you profile so many more women than men?
Men doing these things isn't out of the ordinary for true crime fans. When a woman does it, it becomes a sensation, and videos like this one get more views.
I saw'Fatal Vows', a show about this. Jo Lynn, the first wife said that they made much better friends than spouses and she didn't elaborate too much about what made their marriage fall apart. Russ wanted to get back with her. Jo Lynn really went to bat for him and was really instrumental in Barbara's conviction--along with the cassette tape. Jo Lynn was a really lovely lady, very classy--his best friend.
All Beretta .25 caliber pistols have an "inertial firing pin safety" which is not absolutely "drop safe" but the details of how it could fire when dropped rule out the first death being an accident. The Beretta pistol will only fire if dropped muzzle DOWN onto an extremely rigid surface like a bare concrete floor. It just cannot fire from being dropped onto bedsprings.
The fact that Russ recorded a cassette tape predicting Barbara would shoot him in his sleep sealed her fate for all of eternity.
He did not record a cassette tape predicting she would shoot him. He worried about some strange facets and actions of his wife; rightfully so.
In the recording, Russ said he thought: she was forging checks to cover up her financial problems, she had killed her first husband, she was cheating on him, and that she had given him sleeping pills on multiple occasions.
That is terrifying. Why didn't he get out I wonder.

I'm always asking myself the same questions. It would be great if Dr. Grande ends his videos with some info about close relatives or children.
I always google the kids after........ Unfortunately most believe the lying parent.

@@lf9341 Thanks for the update.
I remember this story.
Thank you for filling in the whole story.
I did not know about tape.
Always interesting
Thank you
Peace ❤
Killing 1 husband is an Oops, but 2 husbands?!!?
Good afternoon Dr Grande, excellent analysis. As always I learn something new from your videos.
Have a great weekend.
Dr. Grande, your sense of humor is the Best! And I love your shirt! You wear such good ones!
Yes, I'm hoping he covers this one too
Terrible! How old was the victim? I now live in the Midwest but I grew up in Whittier, California; it used to be a very decent city decades ago. 😢🙏
@@culturalobserver8721 she was just 19 yrs young. One correction. He also kidnapped her with intent to rape. Just feels so random and that’s scary.
Sounds like the BF didn't carry.
I honestly watched too many crime videos. if someone has too many people around dying of unnatural causes, I automatically assume that person is killing them.
Same
I had to quit watching the crime channel. Too much is too much.
Good morning 🌞🌄, Dr. Grande!🙋🤗🍀🪴🌵 I hope you enjoy your day ! I read this book! I feel so bad for the Men she Murdered, their Families, and her Children!💔💔🥀🥀🙏🙏🕊️🕊️ She's Wicked. Thank You!
When people tell me I look like a cartoon character, I've always seen it as a compliment...
lol. I guess it depends on the cartoon character.
"Fool me once ..." (Thanks, as always, Dr. Grande!)
I've seen this case on ID many times. She was an interesting person. I especially liked her story about her getting a huge advance for supposedly writing a book. LOL A book about what?
Dr Grande, please comment on the psychological profile of Tilikum, the Orca (killer whale) who killed and assaulted a number of his trainers. Thank you 👍🏻
Obviously something fishy was going on.
I am triggered by how the woman in the thumbnails turkey neck looks like my turkey neck 😂😢
Dr. Grande time..
Russ in the thumbnail picture looks like how Matthew McConaughey looked in the film 'Dazed and Confused.' Barbara looks like a pelican.
As usual love you sense of humor!
Thank you Dr G and Forensics Files ❤
This case was featured on New Detectives. Its very sad that the two men realized everything that was going on and still chose to stay with her and lose their lives.
"Soporific groin strike”😂 thanks Dr. Grande
Actually I think those men conflated sex with love. A deadly mistake.
Poor russ. Thats one of those situations ya know? You ask your girlfriend "so youve been married before, what happened? Yall get divorced?"
"No he accidentally shot himself"
No red flags there....im not a conspiracy theorist. I believe everything i hear.
“Killer in bed” 🤣 Careful what you wish for! 😬
Hey Dr. Grande🥰 Thank you for the new video! I can already tell that this case is going to hit me hard bc my husband passed away exactly 2yrs to the day after 1 of our daughters did. I'm pretty sure I've never heard of this case & there's no better way to learn about cases through you! Thank you always & happy Friday!
@amadeagottlieb ~Thank you so very much for your kind words🙏 I'm very sorry for your loss as well. I'm 33yrs old & I we with him from the time we were in 6th grade, until the day he passed away on top of my in a recliner. It was far beyond traumatic. I'm trying SO SO HARD, but it's been hard to get traction in my life bc then a few years ago, I was robbed at gunpoint & shot in the chest. It was one traumatic event after the next. My hubby & I had our 1st child when I was only 17. Fast forward to 33yrs old & I've got 8kiddos. I do believe in God & in heaven.
Hey sweet, a new Grande vid! I'm gonna pop some popcorn and grab a beer before I start watching!
I don't understand going from a Death Sentence, to a chance for Parole! She's a Double Murderer!
Law in NC was changed to life without parole afterwards.
I think Barbara's surname is best pronounced "stager" - as in someone who stages "stuff" to "happen"...
The quips and deadpan delivery… 😂😂😂😂😂😂
It doesn't sound like Larry's Case was Investigated too well. 💔💔🥀🥀🙏🙏🕊️🕊️ Russ sounds like a Good Man.🥀🥀🙏🙏💔💔🕊️🕊️ They both should be alive!
Heard about this case before. She's definitely guilty. The fact that the cops so casually swallowed the accidental discharge BS is disturbing. Genuine accidental discharges are very rare, and are usually done by clueless kids.
Thanks!
Thank you dr so interesting as usual
I knew the Stagers back in the 80s. I determined pretty quickly that Russ was a cool guy and that Barbara didn't have much personality. That's all I know.
So because there was no gunshot residue on his hands, the ONLY plausible explanation is that the gun shot him itself 😳 and here I was thinking the police aren't your friends😂
Yeah it’s hard to dump a psycho when the sex is really good
My first wife was a freak
@@troy3456789And she didn't kill you! Not so bad.
😅
Dr Grande, I enjoy your sense of humour even more so now that any type of humour is pretty much banned in the UK.
Women who are crazy in the bedroom are crazy outside it
This is a popular episode of City Confidential.
"Unreasonably high temperatures!" 😆😆🤣😆🤣😆👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💯
According to the net - She's still in prison
@@ajnasreddin
I’m not sure it’s a “psychological” trait but a vulnerability one.
How do you not laugh saying all the funny things you say. I can't stop laughing.
Thanks though, well dobe vedio. I actually love all your work.
Thank you, Dr. Grande! I always enjoy your videos. I recently read that men commit violent crimes more than three times as often as women (U.S. Department of Justice). Assuming that’s true, why do you profile so many more women than men?
Maybe it's less interesting when it happens all the time? Good question though!
Men doing these things isn't out of the ordinary for true crime fans. When a woman does it, it becomes a sensation, and videos like this one get more views.

I wish poor Russ had returned to his first wife.
Those first cops must have been total idiots!! They must have really wanted to go for donuts 🍩!
The coincidence that my band is called Soporific Groin Strike is uncanny 🤯!!
.. Barbara's a spitting image of my pet monitor lizard. 👉6:40🦎
Hilarious
I think she had a very long neck
Looks like my bearded dragon, except that my bearded dragon is really cute !!!😊
So sad all that “church going “but she did not learn of the One she needed in her life so as not become the evil woman she was.
I read the book in two days. Interested to hear your perspective.
"...with her desire to avoid excessevely warm climats." 😂😂😂😂😂
Turns out racist bigoted white men really did cause climate change. Are you finally ready to elect a communist dictator yet?
Gee, why did I never think of this?!
Oh gross! She probably had everything but the cure! Ugh. 🤢😖
I'd never heard this one. Thank you Dr Grande. 👍🌹

I'm going to name my crust punk band "magical discharge" thanks Dr Grande!
