  • Are you a vegan? Let me know!
Did you know this?! The food industry is determined to sell us the idea that vegan food is healthy and natural, when actually some 'plant based' products are ultra processed and unhealthy and potentially addictive.

I grew up on a mostly vegetarian diet…chicken once per month for example. We planted our food and hardly bought anything, even our cooking oil came from the coconuts in our backyard. Now I have decided that I am going the vegetarian way. There are raised eyebrows because I am constantly told ….’you need protein’. For God’s sake I am 79 and I can donate my protein. Do not get me started on ‘it tastes like meat, you would never know’. Dammit, if I wanted meat I would eat meat. My body is telling me no to animal based food……..spiritually I feel that I need clean food. For me ‘clean’ simply means going back to where I was 60-70 years ago.

I always tell people if you want to know the truth speak to someone over 70. The elderly knows where it is act. My grandma and great aunt have told me stories when in 1930s and even into Cuban Revolution meat was always too expensive, it got ridiculous after the Cuban Communist Revolution and people survived basically on rice and beans everyday. Everyone was still healthy and strong and some even showed better recovery after working in the farm and fields. People rarely got sick. Those who had heart problems and diabetes were born that way. When those same Cubans came into the US and started to eat meats and other things that weren't available on the island they all got sick... diabetes and heart problems was no longer something you were born with , but gained due to the diet. My great aunt especially told me to stick to my vegetarian diet because that is the true diet of my heritage. She never criticized my diet, because she still ate that way too. She is in her 90s. I loved listening to her stories of what she went through as a kid, teen and young adulthood. She had a wild life, rock n roll. 🥰👍😎👍

I think one of the biggest elements of eating healthy is paying attention to how the food that you eat feels in your body. Through paying attention I have learned over time that it doesn't matter how "clean" the ingredients are, if it's heavily processed I just don't feel good. Also, when it comes to food as I see it's also worth paying attention to it's inherent lifeforce. Some might refer to this as "high vibration." It makes sense to me that food that is fresh, natural healthy and unprocessed is the way to go. And as I see it, all of these highly processed vegan foods are really just junk food.

@@EdDaBawsh you need to do more research. For example meat/plants have a variety of amino acids most of which our own body can manufacture. However meat eggs fish chicken cheese contain all 9 essential amino acids (essential because the body can't make them you need to obtain them from food)
Vegetables have some of the 9 amino acids but not always complete or of a high quantity
However good vegetables sources do exist.
Your vegetable sources of "complete proteins" meaning all 9 amino acids are Lentils, beans (black beans, soy, kidney beans etc,) chickpeas mushrooms
Walnuts, pumkin seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, peanuts, cashews ,
You can use the nuts in a Protein smoothie
You can also get vegan protein powder
Like hemp seed powder or chickpea protein, to add to your fruit smoothie
Some religions like a branch of Hindu (Jainism) that are forbidden from eating meat have tried and true ways of preparing nutritious food without meat.
We can look to the internet for traditional trusted recipes that have kept people alive for centuries.
While transitioning to less meat products you can still eat cheese and eggs as changing your diet too fast can do more harm than good.
See a nutritionist if you get too confused.
If you have a good food processor you can make vegan Burger patties there a a lot of recipes on TH-cam
      One basic recipe includes:
      Mushroom
      Blackbeans
      Walnuts
      Onion
      Herbs spices
      Olive oil
      Breadcrumb

Agreement with the number of "reality"-- that is, the actual singular you who are doing the talking-- is more important than agreement of the "self/selves" part with the "them" (plural) part. Just like when people saying the idiotic phrase "it is natural it is good for you" cyanide is natural so too is arsenic and mercury is a mineral but I am not going go out an consume them. The biggest problem I see with all of this stuff is that most people that advocate for vegan life style and anti-what ever is in fashion do not truly understand the subject they are talking about and spew all kinds of bad information. Not intentionally but that does not make it any better. I am not anti-vegan or anti-vegetarian or anti any way of eating but I am tired of ignorance which seems to rein supreme in the "ANTI" establishment world. It goes with out saying that any food item you eat should be minimally processed no matter if it is an animal product or a vegetable product! If someone is going to debate the norm they need to be as well educated on the topic as the main stream expert and should be able to speak intelligently about it. Every time a vegan or vegetarian spews nonsense it makes the entire premise look bad. For some populations and health conditions plant based diet is the way to go! For some populations and health conditions a case can be made for rather limited animal and limited plant based diet and the like. Personal claims of health and vitality can be found in both camps. This is not an us vs them situation yet that is how it is often framed and how most people see it. Almost no one does any form of scientific observations like lab work and other health measurements to establish what is working for them. Many of the healthiest populations on this earth eat mostly plant based diet with sea food daily and red meat a few times a year. I am not aware of any cultures that have existed for centuries that have super long live on an exclusively plant based diet devoid or sea food, insects, mammals or mammalian products like egg's and cheese all of the longest living cultures have some non-plant based food in the mix even if the amounts are small! Avoiding animal based food for reasons of conscience is different than what is actual best for the species. What happens when you find out plants are sentient as well and have the ability to feel pain and anticipate pain?

I've been vegan 8 years. I eat about 90% whole plant foods and 10% processed. Maybe even 95% whole food 5% processed.
I am still inclined to believe that overall vegan processed food is still better for you than animal processed food.
Compare a normal processed sausage to a vegan sausage. There's chemicals, "meat glue" not to mention the poor diet the animals were fed and the antibiotics they were given and the stress hormones within their decaying bodies. Plus the preservatives.
Plus the amount of resources it takes to raise the animals. And the suffering the animals endure.
It even be less harmful overall to the human body to eat vegan processed meat than a piece of organic grass fed piece of cow but it's hard to say.
    We'd have to test it.
I think overall vegan processed meats are better than animal processed meat for sure.
Its great to have options whilst you transition to a vegan life style and when out with friends but ultimately whole foods are best.
I prefer how I feel when eating whole foods.

This is going to end badly for you. You'd be consuming a species appropriate diet for health... There's a reason more ex vegans are speaking out. As for the stomach cramping, consuming more fiber has already been shown to cause more digestive distress especially in those with GI issues not to mention the GI scale is... Well its the most useless measurement of carbs there possibly is as no one should be sourcing energy from carbs, animal sourced energy such as saturated fats should be your main source for energy. The issue is that the AHA has been bought and paid for giving the worst research for decades. These morons really believe that Saturated fat and red meat cause heart disease due to bad cholesterol lol read any peer review study, not observational and food survey studies but a actual peer review report... Then ask your doctor about cholesterol lol I can't wait for him or her to explain to you that LDL Is bad cholesterol which literally doesn't exist because LDL isn't cholesterol its a lipoprotein that carries Cholesterol that you're body makes its self. Any excess cholesterol that you're body can handle is rid through fecal matter and we have peer reviewed reports that havung less cholesterol is associated with all cause mortality then having high cholesterol. Don't do it or get a new nutritionist or dietician who knows what they're talking about. You're about to consume a all plant based diet which people are finally realizing is more damaging then helpful, our ancestors have already been documented as meat eaters which kept us alive for centuries... You think they'd pick plants over meat lol. Not to mention... Um... I hope you know about antinutrients and plant toxins such as Lectins, Amines, Tannins, Trypsin inhibitors,Fodmaps,
Salicylates, Oxalates, Sulfites, benzo ates, MSG, Non protein amino acids, Glycosides
,Akaloids including solanine and chaconine, Triterpenes,Lignins, Saponins, Phytic acid, Glutan and Isoflaones that you're body can't rid its self of completely, hair loss, digestive worsen or distress because fiber can't be digested, low levels of cholesterol which is super dangerous, malnutrition, loss of sex drive, poor skin and skin conditions, weakness and nervous system injury all reported and conclusively peer reviewed on a vegan diet... It's why whenever you hear the phrase "Veganism is more healthier".. Ask you're self compared to what? Then go read those reports lol it's always and I mean always compared to the SAD diet (Standard American diet). As for the ethics of a vegan diet, the pollution of sprays and over spill of those plant toxins kill or poisons more cattle then factory pharm yearly which vegans don't talk about because why would they?
Please don't take my word for any of this that would be silly, please do some more research there's a big reason why Veganism is pushed on the population it's governmental pushed, bought and paid for... Think about all the "Vegan" products that have come out and link them back to the companies that produce them lol all governmental owned not to mention the shady history of those companies I mean come on now. Don't do it or at keast go Keto for health. You must have a measurement of animal product within your diet to function properly. There's a reason vegan studies beyond 10 years doesn't exist and there's a reason you're health declines after 3-5. Need more? Look at Mic the Vegan this man looks so sick it's not even fair. And yes there are some vegans who can I guess get away with a vegan lifestyle but not for long, peer reviews in nutrition that 87% of vegans have to include animal based products at some point to counter act poor health decline... Wonder why that is. Again please do better research other then Google research. A recent carnivore diet report came out finally after the American heart association demonized meat for decades showing large health improvement over the course a few months. The reason you're doing so well already is a phenomenon where when you step away from a previous diet which either you had food sensitivity too or you reacted poorly too, the body chances pretty quickly... Think of it as the honey moon stage of a relationship. That will fade and health decline with arise.

The good news is it doesn’t matter whether she eats meat or not when it comes to the decisions YOU make for YOURSELF.
Isn’t it great that we can exercise our own free will to make our own informed decisions?
The bad news is, it’s easy to get confused and mistakenly use that free will to focus so much on other people’s choices (which we can’t control), and forget to live our own lives.
It’s amazing how many people are offended by veganism or some other personal choice someone makes for their own lives as if self-determination offends them. Or as individuality scares them and they need other people to make the same decisions they’ve made in order to feel validated.
Trying to not get into conversations about why I make the choices I make doesn’t always help. Even when I try to insist on my right to keep my personal choices and reasoning to myself.
Having the conversation unwillingly and trying to reason with them may only makes things more confusing as they claim to be in support of being able to make THEIR own decisions without having to explain themselves the way they expect others to.

If everyone became vegan the animals that you stop eating will eat all of the fruits and veggies that you are now eating. Make sense right? In truth eventually you will be malnutritioned because many vegetables contain anti nutrients which is why many vegans are getting cancer and auto immune diseases. Animals are our friends and plants are our enemies which is why you should eat the animals and minimize the consumption of plants (especially raw plants). Our ancestors did not die of the diseases we are suffering today because they ate a balance of meat and vegetables and low carb fruits like berries. They knew how to prepare foods so they would not hurt our bodies but we lost the ways of our ancestors which is why today many people suffer from diseases and will die early.

I went vegan just over 4 years ago after working in the meat Industry for some 25 years, first visit to a slaughterhouse was at the tender age of 16 as a young trainee butcher, it was a baptism of fire! I still vividly remember the experience, I also sadly spent a short period of time working in a slaughter house on a government run scheme where by cattle were being killed for potentially being infected with BSE, yet another Zoonotic disease caused by humans feeding cattle the dead ground up infected parts of other of animals when they should of been eating vegetation. My son went vegan and I wanted to prove him wrong, I didn't like vegetarians let alone vegans. After many heated debates and me continuing to want to prove him wrong I decided to watch a couple of the documentaries he mentioned, watching finally 'Earthlings, Land of Hope & Glory', filmed in factory farms in the UK, some of which I could relate too. Just 13 minutes in I had to stop it as it had me in tears. I decide enough was enough I would try to go vegan, so myself and my wife literally took the plunge and went vegan on her birthday just over 4 years ago. I am also an ultra endurance runner and have completed a 145 mile race powered by plants. I do eat some of the so called processed 'fake meats' but then I was a massive Carni having worked in the industry for so long. I use to eat literally meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I thought that my plate was not complete without dead animal parts on it. I went vegan for the animals, I never connected the dots before, If I am honest I just didn't give a F@ck even though I had heard their cries, seen the fear in their eyes and smelt the stench of death. I came to appreciate that all animals are sentient and not only do not want to die but very much do not need to, when we cannot only survive on plants but thrive on plants! I feel better mentally, physically & spiritually and am proud to be Vegan! Some people forget that the meat, fish, dairy and egg Industry are not always completely honest in their practices, BSE, horsegate scandal and so on, also in some sectors of the Industry it is known for over use of growth hormones and antibiotics, which can cause other problems that may effect humans. Now that I am vegan for the animals #myfoodisgrownnotborn I consume #foodfrommudnotfromblood

Big culprit is high carb and sugar (for cholesterol) - these lead to inflammation which is what makes the cholesterol dangerous (sticking to inflamed tissue inside arteries). So steer clear of high carbs and sugar. They also increase cholesterol production by increasing triglycerides. Low carb, low fat...thats what I have to do. I happen to love beans and Mexican bowls and quinoa and I love almost ALL veggies- so I find that part easy (Ive never liked meat). I slip up on carbs. I love crackers, and chips, and all those crunchy yum carbs - but I really need to stick to veggies and protein. Takes some serious intention but always brings my cholesterol levels down.

Frozen fruits aren't processed as much as these meats he's talking about. I think it's helpful to understand the risks of any food whether processed or not. But technically the majority of foods are processed, apples seeds for example are all cloned and haven't evolved naturally unless you go forage crab apples. Many fruits are now ripened/reddened with gas instead of sunlight etc. It's good to be knowledgeable about our agricultural landscape.

Hi Russel, great to hear you're part of our commune and bringing up this important subject.
About me: grew up with my grandparents on a small farm n stopped eating animals back in the 70:ies...having decided not to eat my friends. I eat whole food plant based, all colours, seasonal/local....supporting small fruterias (spanish for green grocers). There I can avoid the horrible tasteless veg and over packaging. I bring my reusable containers n a bag, buy my lentils/beans, veg/fruit, almonds or other dried fruit (here nuts/seeds and dried dates, figs, apricots are grouped into drued fruits) and spice all lose weight. Less food/plastic waste, less expensive than supermarkets n you know them. Sure you're getting tomatoes with few blemishes or wonky zucchini but you can also feel safe scraping your avocado to the peel without that bitter flavour😊. I prefer a few bug attacks on my non perfect looking food than neonics (a nerve toxin) n other pesticides. And I sometimes make burger patties (lentil based with potatoes n lots of spices) or other "pretend" meat dishes. But mostly I love my curries, stews with potatoes, chickpeas n veg....slow cooking, or pita bread filled with lil falafel balls, simple homemade hummus with bread n tomatoes, aubergine fried drizzled with molasses, apple n onion salad with sesame oil, seeds, cilantro etc. Mexican tortilla with red beans, hot sauce, fresh tomatoes, lettuce and chunks of avocado (season just starting as figs are going...so I'm sad/happy 😂 every year). But I also like an almost full English breakfast for tea...just the beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, toast with homemade hummus (sometimes jam). Never tried bacon or any pig flesh..nor the pretend one. I was forced to eat a kind of blood soup after just seeing that hen being killed 😭 n other odd stuff like boiled toughe 🤢 bc my nan thought I'd die....so there was a lot of hiding stuff in pockets, lies etc. Until I got my 1st real paid job n flat at 15. As a moving in present a friend gave me an Indian cookbook. I have tried those Mc Carty sausages n the beyond burger but not a real fan. I mean I eat them, especially if someone went through the trouble of inviting for dinner n made that. I'll off course be appreciative not rude. But also during the decades I've been to countless dinners eating the sides; potatoes, veg, bread. No hassle. Tofu I do buy sometimes, non American peanut butter and marmite (full of b12) and great to drizzle on or cook with...so I'm not fundamentalist but processed food isn't very good, that's all. I never knew you're vegan but happy you are. Hope you find good recipes to make "substitutes". Instagram is brilliant for this. All the very best of luck to you 🍀 Edit; maltodextine is a vegetable starch, so the body metabolites it as glucose I believe. Most vegan cheese is okay too...often mainly nuts n stabilsers. However I think we should push for easy to understand labelling on processed food. So brilliant that you use you platform in this way 👏. Obvs don't know you but I like you anyway.

Today Yellowstone exterminates the last true herd of 5000 each winter secretly killing 2000 annually while park is closed to keep the bison from ever migrating free again.

Okay folks. I am a vegan. I agree with Russell and the author in that popular animal-meat alternatives like Beyond and Impossible aren't exactly healthy... but they aren't "the worst junk food of all." If you watch this video by Mic, you'll see that plant-based meat is a better option than traditional meat. Just because it is "processed" doesn't mean it is automatically unhealthy--just because it is "plant-based" doesn't mean it is healthy. You have to compare the alternatives. If you really wanted to be healthy, then you probably wouldn't be eating a delicious, high-sodium burger (animal meat or plant-based). These products don't exist for the health. They exist for people that are closed off to veganism and plant-based food and that believe the common misconception that plant-based food doesn't taste good. Not only this, but the products exist so that people can have an alternative tasty product to animal-based meat at their barbeques that isn't as bad for the environment. Fact of the matter is that most vegan and plant-based products are much better for the environment, a thousand times better for the animals, and slightly better (or the same) for your health.

not true at all! Most highly processed vegan "foods are not made from ingredients free of pesticides and or herbicides. They are not generally GMO free either which automatically means that Roundup or other herbicides will be part of the production process of the plant based ingredients. Agricultural chemicals are incredibly toxic to the environment for plants and animals. The argument that GMO or conventionally grown vegan food are better for animals and the environment is a lie, it's just the kind of lie that "happens" due to not disclosing the actual truth. It's just Big Chemical Food making a buck as usual.

People are run ragged just trying to survive, most don’t have the time, interest or energy to know what’s happening. Sometimes we are lucky to have a friend or relative who’s in the know and keeps us informed. We live in a time right now where we can’t trust the media. The tech companies are contributing massively to poor addictive mental health. If western society doesn’t get its obesity epidemic under control by firstly telling us the truth about all the processed garbage we consume thinking it’s healthy. Most health care programs will buckle under the pressure. Education is a must unfortunately for a lot of people especially in the United States they don’t value it or the teachers. Sad considering this is supposed to be the greatest country in the world. Definitely something wrong with this picture. I feel for the US citizens.
