    I def have a few movies I own on multiple formats! Sometimes I want the sleek Blu-Ray viewing experience, and sometimes I'm in the mood for the VHS grungy look

      Dude, I completely agree lol. The more I collect VHS, the more I learn just how valuable each format is. There isn't necessarily a "better"
      format, it's kinda like certain titles draw me to the vhs era and I want to watch them in that style ya know? But like, having something like "Dolls" on blu ray is a dream come true, even though the vhs is all time good.

    Great topic. A lot of people are getting into collecting horror dvds instead of Blu-ray due to the look but yeah some VHS has a feel and more fun especially horror. 👍

      @@brentmadison4477 Oh for sureee. I had a big dvd collection in my teens but it's by far my least preffered format these days. I'll take VHS over it all day, everydayyy🤙🏻🎃

    I was born in '83, and I remember VHS being a pain in my a**. I do have a couple VHS's, but the odds of me rewatching the movies I have in that format is very slim.

      I was born in '72 and I went thru them all (physical media formats) and will always remember the joy I felt at the arrival of DVDs. VHS always annoyed me because of the time wasted fast forwarding or rewinding to get to a certain scene or pausing and having it shut off after 5 minutes and the tapes wearing out. DVDs were so awesome for my impatience and I still focus on that format to this day. I sometimes pick up blu rays or a 4k on a film I really really love but my love and appreciation for DVD remains 😅

      @ DVD felt revolutionary compared to VHS. Just like CD was to cassette tapes.

      Hahaha, dude I feel you. It's still newer to me and I never thought I'd be saying things like this but it's been somewhat of a revolution for me. Especially with the influx of things being upgraded seemingly every month like Deep Blue Sea. I happen to like that one alot, but I have the VHS and I think I'm content for now. At the very least, it provides much cheaper options in a state of the game where things are bonkers in price lol. Appreciate you watchin, brother!🤙🏻

      Haha that's actually really funny, I'm feeling that same way for VHS. I do remember when DVD came out and it was an insane revolution. I had a big big dvd collection back in the day. Thanks for checkin out the video, man🤘🏻

    There is a nostalgia factor to vhs. Something about seeing those old commercials and stuff just really sets the mood and takes you back in time.

    Definitely get the appeal of downgrading. Seeing a movie on VHS is an experience that simply can't be replicated on other formats! (I even feel the same about music. Am holding onto my cassettes and CDs forever, LOL.)

      Hahaha dude I love that! I WISHH I still had my tapes from when I was a kid. The first three I ever bought were Metallica's Black Album and Re-load, along with No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom lol. I kept them all in this black tape box. Wow, the memories lol🤙🏻

    If VHS tapes were still available I would 100% buy them. I love blu Ray and 4k but VHS is special, I have about 500 or so but haven't bought any in years.

      Damnnn, nice collection! The market is actually pretty wild right now. Boutique labels are pickin up on the popularity and resurgence of the format and doing limited special edition vhs runs on shit. It's pretty sweeett, but still can't beat an OG 80's horror tape. Justt the best lol🤙🏻

    Well we like what we like but I got rid of all my VHS years ago with the advent of DVD. I do still collect DVD but blu-ray is certainly the better format of the three. Still, more power to you.

    • @MylesofHorror
      @MylesofHorror  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha for sure, dude! I think part of the crux of what I'm trying to get at is it helps to have options. I've limited myself since collecting for years and years on blu ray for the most part which is undoubtedly the top format overall, but getting into VHS is really helping save a prtty penny these days with the massive influx of upgrading happening across the board. Best example for me is Arrow's Deep Blue Sea. Super fun movie and I would love the edition, but I'm glad to cut that corner, save 45 bucks and just roll with the vhs, if that makes sense.

    many films like the exorcist are tampered with each time its put out that the older versions are sought after. there are preservationist communities like fanres who specialize in this concept and try to restore films to theyre org theatrical state with color palette and sound.

      So interesting! I've definitely learned so much more about the preservation and scanning/transferring/pressing from Vin Syn and other boutiques and it's all fascinating to me. Delving into the world of VHS has been such a pleasure. What I love most is the treasure trove of titles out there. It's endless. Appreciate you watchin and the comment, dude!🤙🏻

    A had VHS of The Mummy and The Thing and refused to upgrade when DVDs became a thing because I just loved the experiemce and nostalgia. Putting in a VHS and having to sit through all the previews and nonsense was very much just as much a part of thr experience as thr movie itself (Dr Loony's Remedy is just as much a part of Goofy Movie to me as the actual movie).
    VHS and DVD covers used to have to look great because it was the age of rentals and you had to grab the consumer's eye. These days everyone, myself included, simply stream. Thr only physical media being bought is because of us collectors that want a tangible copy to represent our interests.

    • @MylesofHorror
      @MylesofHorror  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You're so right. I never really thought about that. VHS wraps were designed specifically with one purpose, to grab our attention. In many instances, movies were being showcased for the first time, so that was really all a consumer had to go on whether they wanted to watch/rent, etc. Nowadays, most movies that are released have had at least some form of history on physical media and it's more so about the overall collection with quality of restoration and transfer, along with the extras. Great point, man🤙🏻

      @@MylesofHorror Yep! It was especially true with horror. Thats why if you look at a lot of your movies from the 70s (Exorcist, Carrie, etc), the art is basically just a screenshot of the movie. It wasn't until the 80s that you really started to see it refined to an art, with covers that a lot of the time look way more interesting than the movie itself...or even completely misrepresent it. All in the name of getting you to buy or rent it.
