Part 2 of the documentary about the making of "Star Trek:Nemesis". Contains interviews with Brent Spiner, Patrick Stewart, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton etc.
Shinzon and B-4 should have been combined into the same character. And it should have been Lore. He was a pre-established brother of Data, he already had motivation for revenge, and Data could still have sacrificed himself to save the crew, leaving Lore, perhaps incapacitated from the final battle, to act as a potential receptacle for Data's backed up memories and knowledge.
Im going to say it. Nemesis is actually pretty good. I know people like to say how awful it is, but I really dont think so. Ive had ten years to think about it, rewatch it, understand it. rewatch all the TNG episodes and other movies... and other series and the TOS movies... Its just n ot a bad movie at all. I think some of the hate comes from Data's death and it being the last movie. They were in a no-win situation, really. A kobayashi Maru. The did beat it though.
Stephen Pike It was a good movie made on a rather tight budget compared to films like Star Wars or even James Bond! Two franchises this film had to fight with directly in 2002! I am 100% confident this film would have performed better if it had been released in the Spring of 2003. (April or May).
The toast Picard gives, "To absent friends." is the same toast Kirk gave in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, when Spock is the missing friend in the same context that Data is a missing friend.
i think this movie was meant to be about the star trek family breaking up and moving on, the change of it all. yet something went wrong when it came to filming and editing. it had the potential to be a great moving film.
well nemesis certainly isnt nearly as bad as jj abrams crap but it just doesnt have the feel of a star trek movie. its a logical extension of the direction rick berman had been taking star trek for some time farther and farther from roddenberrys more character driven stories to more of an action adventure genera. this was never going to work with many trekkies and many "mainstream" movie goers still found it too geeky. it was an interesting concept but was let down by its overemphasis on action and shlocky plot devices. the whole rhemen thing doesnt work and wouldve been much more believable as a whole new race or just use the romulans. killing of data after killing of spock earlier just seems trite though i think it was more plausible and less contrived than spocks ending.
@dannyboylee Heck, and since it is Nemesis, it would fit Lore perfectly. Have the Romulans trying to work on Lore after finding him, he and some of his former Borg minions steal the Romulans' newest ship, instant crisis and instant backstory....
credit where credit is due, Tom Hardy was magnificent in this movie. He became Patrick Stewart, or more specifically Patrick Stewart's Jean Luc Picard... but twisted.
I kind of like Nemesis. For me, it's fun to watch. It has enough emotional stuff to keep me invested. I never fail to get misty eyed at the scene where B4 sings that song.
@talaxian1 you know what? you're right. i'm one of those that blamed the director as well. i think it's just the sheer anger and disappointment with the way it ended. it is the writer's fault, but i just wanna blame everyone involved. i just hated that ending SO much....
Star Trek Nemesis is the final nail in the proverbial space coffin. No, wait, it IS a space coffin! And I'm not just speaking metaphorically, because everything in this movie reminds me of death. But who am I kidding, what doesn't these days? At what point did the Star Trek franchise (Generations) go horribly wrong? Now I'm not saying anybody in particular (Rick Berman) is to blame, but what happened?
I love how critical everyone's being about Nemesis... as if they could've done any better. Why do people get so pernickety about it? I enjoyed the last film! No, it wasn't PERFECT, but what the hell is?
patrick stewart should have pplayed both shinzon and picard, it would have made for much better diatribe and much better dialogue, plus it would have been more believable as I don't think shinzon could ever grow up to look like picard
... despite the critics and everyone elses opinion ... i DID enjoy the movie it wasn´t too bad ... well it wasn´t too good either but it was good ... at least for me ... and i´m actualy fine with how the story turned out ... and imo it also had another massage ... that NOTHING can be forever ...
Sorry Patrick but the most important lesson of this movie is that you must keep Rick Berman WELL AWAY from your massive cash-cow franchise if you want to avoid it being beaten at the box office by a JLo rom-com and spending the next 7 years in limbo..

I agree. I loved this movie.
There's something about the Star Trek universe that makes you want to be a part of it.
I really wish the personal character moments were left in.
Im going to say it. Nemesis is actually pretty good.

Yes! Agreed!
2 Pickards and 2 Datas!
I loved the story!

The passage of time that we all face, the torch being passed
I would love to see the sequal what patrick talked about
Actually thats a really great idea, I would've enjoyed that a lot :D
i'm still hoping that is give a new star trek tng movie with this cast
So they were either gonna kill off data or Picard......
Who to kill off out the two of them?
Which one would you choose?
On star trek online I made a character modeled after Brent Spines and I named him Mista Data lol
Note the conspicuous absence of any mention of the director...
hey John Logan wrote the screenplay for Gladiator

Who was the actor that played "Shinzon?" He was brilliant in this role. Well cast.
Tom Hardy
@dannyboylee Yeah, we never saw Lore disassembled. Maybe some Ferengi stole the parts.

miss u data, RIP, it will be your replacement.
@filigrant agreed
to me this movie along with first contact was the best movie in the series...:)
Hopefully Star Trek Picard becomes a good continuation of the general storyarch
credit where credit is due, Tom Hardy was magnificent in this movie. He became Patrick Stewart, or more specifically Patrick Stewart's Jean Luc Picard... but twisted.

One of the characters has your last name (hint: the very first captain of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701)
Was depressing that Data was destroyed in this movie.
@talaxian1 you know what? you're right. i'm one of those that blamed the director as well. i think it's just the sheer anger and disappointment with the way it ended. it is the writer's fault, but i just wanna blame everyone involved. i just hated that ending SO much....
B4 as sequel bait which fortunately never happened.
If it had, he would've probably been evil... Would've made Lore, the Borg, and Shinzon look like a walk in the park.
Yeah except Lore was dismantled. ...still... doesn't mean Data couldn't have put him back together and try again on him.
This Documentary was better than the film :/

@Nexus52085 the actors blame the director,... why I do not know. The problem with this film was the WRITING!
I love how critical everyone's being about Nemesis... as if they could've done any better. Why do people get so pernickety about it? I enjoyed the last film! No, it wasn't PERFECT, but what the hell is?

@dannyboylee a much better idea than spiner and logan came up with
now... Star Trek 2009?
Now THAT is an awful movie that ruins Star Trek.

Would have rather just killed the character instead of continuing just my opinion
