Good idea. Specially if you don’t have a ton of money and don’t want to replace targets all the time. I use AR 500 steel plates. Love the noise of ringing the steel plates
I use foam office mats. Its a lot lighter and cheaper, although not as durable. I also use these mats as the front wall on a mulch bullet trap which allows me to keep every single piece of lead (and could even be used in a basement for an indoor kind of range if one had the property and ventilation setup for it) I think this is worth it if you compare it to the cost of shoot-n-see targets like you noted. If you don't need the immediate shot placement, cardboard targets are definitely the way to go. I don't buy cardboard targets. I just go to costco and grab a bunch of flattened boxes and cut those up. You can make like 75 of them in an hour. And of course, these are also way better targets than steel when shooting suppressed. I'll have to try your mats though. I bet the thicker material makes a louder slap when the bullet hits it, which could be cool. The foam targets don't make any appreciable sound when hit.
Any updates? Still holding up? I used to install these stall mats in...horse stalls, of all things. The easiest way I found to cut them was a with sharp utility knife. The key is to make several cuts along the same line (i.e. not try to go the full depth at once) while folding the mat back away from both sides of your cut (so it doesn't grab the sides of the blade. It's even easier if you have someone else help "peel" it apart as you cut.
did some more searching on these rubber mats for targets because infinity targets are like 3x the price. Also stumbled on a video from 2018 from Anthony Battaglia "Concealed Carry: Rubber Dummies Target DIY - Part 3" looks to be similar and possibly the one you are referring to. how is the rubber holding up now after all these years of shooting?
Your correct. Not worth the time. Buying self healthing targets from iD are a lot better choice. They last a, VERY LONG time. 3,000 round. More if you only shoot 9mm
Perfect I saw the new Infiniti self-healing targets and this is the first thing that came to mind
Same
Yep!

Thanks for the idea. I like the option to leave them on the range.

I left them at a range I don’t go to very often so I haven’t used them much but they are still holding on.
yeah, I second that any time I've had to cut conveyor belts at the quarry we used a fresh utility knife.
Oof. Inflation hits hard, 45$ on sale for the 4x6 stall mats in Oregon.
That’s rough
that quick pic of your demographics made me lol
Yeah that 1% is probably my wife and mom lol
AMAZING AS ALWAYS BRO
How many mats does it take to stop a bullet?
Hey, try an oscilating tool. It'll make it so easy you won't be unmotivated to do this again.
Thanks did you use 22LR rim fire ? Nice video
Yeah, I used some 22
Pretty cool

how is the rubber holding up now after all these years of shooting?
Pretty well. I left it at my in-laws so I don’t use it constantly but they are still usable.
My local tractor supply has two different mats, 0.75" and 0.50" , do you know which you used?
The .5” I think
Here is my attempt. I used the 3/4" with the oscillating saw!

Do you still use these and have you made more?
Yes I still use them but I have not made more
How does it heal itself?
It’s rubber. It kinda stretches out of the way of the bullet and snaps back. There is a small hole but it is much smaller than the bullet diameter.
@@thriftyoperator637 thank you!
What can do you have on your 22LR pistol?
Torrent T9k. It’s a 9mm suppressor so it’s a little much for a 22

@@thriftyoperator637you ever have problems with the van getting super dirty?
@@barlowjmb not really. This can goes on my rifles too so any crud left by the 22 gets blasted out
This would last forever it it was used only for airguns. 😎

May not be worth the time, but it definitely seems worth the money
Who is iD ?
I want your scraps so I can make some little 2" square targets. LOL
im probably that 0.9% lmao
You and my wife haha
