This may very well be just my cup of tea. As far as your critiques of Frogmonster go, none of them bother me and are far from deal breakers; I can appreciate a more toned-down ost in a video game, especially since I tend to play my own stuff in the background eventually. And, although it might be considered sacrilege to some, I use Reshade on almost every game I play. Even games with good art direction such as ULTRAKILL really benefit from visual touch-ups through Reshade, so I'll probably be doing a little bit of that with this game. More importantly though, I've also been in search of an FPS that isn't (at its core) just a set of missions/levels to complete. The way that the game incorporates its Metroidvania aspects seems to be really well done, and I'm particularly keen on those boss fights. Frogmonster will definitely be a nice breath of fresh air to me!
Big yes to more metroidvania or non-traditional level structures in FPS games. I wouldn't even call them metroidvania although you can backtrack a bit, but games like Selaco and Relentless Frontier just having levels that you can physically walk between made me realize how tired I am of the old act and level structure. So the more of that I can find the better!
Yes! I love Lunacid. I have another video coming up soon-ish, not necessarily *about* Lunacid, but where it will feature fairly prominently. Keep an eye out!
I was thinking about this game for the first time in months a few hours ago for some reason. I wasn't totally convinced by the demo, but it's still an intriguing game.
I never played the demo so I'm not sure how far into the game it goes, but I will say the game just keeps getting better and better as you unlock abilities and such, so if you were even kind of intrigued by the demo I'd say take the plunge!
Hmm I didn't really get this feeling at all, I'm curious which weapons you feel that about and why? The sound design was maybe a little lacking at times but functionally they all felt perfectly fine to me.
I feel like for most people will still be put away by the artstyle. Weird that so many gush over Dusk but whatever. The problem of style in Frogmonster - I feel like - is in its animations (from your footage I see they lack some impact, punchiness) and lighting. Its voxelness doesn't have to do anything with it. Just remember Teardown - the game looks great. Lighting is one thing that really changes the picture so much, and yet I feel like most game developers don't consider it. I don't think Ultrakill would look as stylish if Hakita wasn't to use real-time lighting in the game. As it comes to mechanics, I just have to play it now and see for myself. I think there's a lot to enjoy and learn from.
All I can do is encourage people to put their preconceptions aside and just play it, despite how much of this video is devoted to explaining why it's worth peoples' time even if the art style doesn't look good to them, there's already multiple comments saying they'll pass cause they don't like the art style. Some people just will never be convinced... But I agree, there was a time when I looked at Dusk and Ultrakill and thought they were ugly, but I played em anyways and not only love of them cause of their gameplay, but I now also appreciate what each game brings to the table visually as well.
Also, counter opinions? I feel like I was pretty measured in my praise and had plenty of criticism for the game despite overall liking it, this isn't just blind praise... but consider that it's 97% positive on Steam, the vast majority of people who have *actually* played this game, and not just determined it sucks from TH-cam footage, feel positively about it, so you don't need to just take my word for it.
Also, I don't know if you're actually intending to imply this, but I've been accused of it before and it always pisses me off so I need to be clear: It is quite literally 100% illegal to accept payment to promote something without disclosing that it's an ad. Maybe consider the more likely option, that the game is just really good despite how it may appear, and that I made the video to share it with more people, nothing more, nothing less.

glad to see this game hitting the main channel, those streams were so chill
To become one with the frog try listening to "Bloop Loops" by Eddie EWI while playing this game
I didn't know you played Lunacid! Despite the fact that I've never played a King's Field game, I REALLY enjoyed it.

My favorite Remnant-like
Most games are lucky to have one great boss fight, this game has, like, 20.
You've gotta check out northern journey, its an absolute blast
It's high on the list!
Rock... Stone...
You should try Echo Point Nova. It does a similar thing. It's a little short, but god, it's fun.
Check my previous video, got a whole review of Echo Point Nova, really enjoyed it!
Looks fire
This is fire why isn’t it coop tho😪
Commenting for the algorithm
Hey, think you'll come back to Roboquest sometime soon? There's been a new update
I haven't stopped playing it, just haven't made a video in a while. But yes I will definitely be playing the new update!
I love the art style but some weapons just feel unfinished as a game dev myself I'm very picky about these things
Hmm I didn't really get this feeling at all, I'm curious which weapons you feel that about and why? The sound design was maybe a little lacking at times but functionally they all felt perfectly fine to me.
Zelda + ULTRAKILL
Honestly, not a terrible comparison!

@@DumpsterManTVPeople should give such projects a chance and just try it. Thank you for the video! I would've never known about this game without you
That art style is not for me 😣
Shame, you are missing out on a fantastic game!
I want to hear counter opinions. Observations don't match descriptions.
Looks like a bad copy of returnal.
It shares literally nothing in common with Returnal

tbh this looks like your typical sponsor game
And yet here I am 'promoting' it for free and explaining, in detail, why it's worth your time cause it's actually very good, open your mind a bit!
