You know a guy's a chad when a Coffin business director from Genshin respects a guy who does not immediately die when he's killed.
For those wondering why Kirei was surprised that Cu go back up even though he should've known about Cu's Battle Continuation:
That's not the actual reason that Cu was able to get back up. Kirei knew about the battle continuation.
Kirei didn't expect Cu to survive because of the nature of the Gae Bolg spear.
Its curse is one of the most powerful death curses in existence in the Nasuverse, but it only triggers if the heart is pierce. It can even deliver true death to immortals and other nigh-immortal beings who wouldn't bat an eye at losing a mere organ like a heart.
Heck, in an interview, Nasu once said that if someone somehow managed to pierce the heart of Arcueid with Gae Bolg, that even she wouldn't be able to get back up even though she's a being for whom the very concept of death doesn't apply. However, you'd need to actually be able to pierce her heart with Gae Bolg.
My point is that the spear can give death to even the deathless. Battle continuation isn't enough to get back up.
Heck, this is the reason why Kirei dies when his heart is pierced by Cu here. Kirei's heart doesn't beat. His heart is already dead and has been so since the end of the previous grail war. The reason he's still alive regardless is because of how the mud of the grail brought Kirei back to life. This is why when True Assassin tries to kill Kirei with his heart destroying noble phantasm that it doesn't work. And yet, Kirei died instantly when his heart was pierced by Gae Bolg.
See my point now? Knowing this, it's normal for Kirei to be shocked.
The actual reason why Cu could tank the curse for a bit is because of his bloodline. The originator of the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception is Cu's grandfather, the Irish God of Death, Balor (who could go as far as to force the concept of death unto others just by looking at them, killing them instantly).
This is the real reason why Cu was able to live for a bit while the curse of Death was doing its work, and even then that curse is still what killed him in the end.
A side note:
Speaking of the Gae Bolg spear, there is a common misconception about it and Cu's main noble phantasm.
The ability to reverse cause and effect isn't the power of the spear.
The spear only has 2 powers:
1- Curse of Death when the heart is pierced.
2- a curse that slows down the healing, making the injuries caused by it to last a very long time. This effect is what Saber suffered from when she survived the Cause and Effect Reversal through her Luck stat, but even then it injured her in the torso right beside her heart, so she almost died.
(fun fact, a serious Cu can spam that Causality Reversal ability, so if he wanted to/was allowed to, he would've been able to massacre Saber right then and there, and he can also boost up the rank of the spear and of the noble phantasm with his rune magic, enough that if he had done so, Saber wouldn't have been able to deflect the ability.)
Both the Anti-Army spear throw noble phantasm and the Causality Reversal noble phantasm are actually techniques invented by Cu.
Just like how Assassin Sasaki Kojiro reached the realm of True Magic through sheer swordsmanship with his noble phantasm, Cu did the same with his spearmanship. That's how the Causality Reversal noble phantasm came to be.

Nah a lot of lancers in fgo don’t have these chivalrous spirit that Cu has. It just really depends on the time and the history that servant came from.

Its a shame they did the comic relief hair thin stab on Shinji.
Originally, Lancer really was just pissed off beyond belief and threw his lance to kill Shinji.
But due to his mortal wound he ended up missing and only chipped Shinji's shoulder, but there was no doubt he intended to throw it straight through the boy's chest.
You can imagine how fast Shinji ran after seeing a lance fly past him at inhuman speed's, while taking a chunk from his shoulder.

I appreciate that after Rin got perved on by a psychotic priest and a creepy classmate, Lancer could still go out laughing about how she's too young for him. If she heard it over the fire, Rin probably even found it funny too.

He was reaching for it while making her more unconfortable out of spite, no fan service here... and even if it was sexual it wouldn't be fan service, take what shinji does for example, it's purely done to make you as disgusted as rin is but since it has sexual implications you'd say it is fan service. That's not what fan service is.

Cú Chulainn is a monster. In legend, he kept fighting even after being mortally wounded and having his intestines out.
His battle continuation skill allows him to continue combat after sustaining mortal wounds. It will also reduce the mortality rate from injury.
