  • In this video I am showing you how I plaster a ceiling in my spare room.
    I'm a DIY plasterer but I get good results that I'm happy with.
    I'll walk you through my process for getting a ceiling plastered.
    Obviously the Pros could do it faster and maybe slightly better than me but I love giving stuff a go and DIY saves some cash!
    Hope you enjoy and please like and subscribe

    Fair play mate, plastering is one of the few jobs I won't even give a go!! It looks so simple but it's so hard to get even looking half good! But it looks like you've nailed mate.

    Just found your channel and really enjoying the content - thanks. Keen to have a go at some plastering. Will come back to this video when I have a first attempt. Just need to find somewhere that's not on show.

    This is how I started, just worked around the house getting better as I go, I'm at the point where I'm really happy with my finish and better than some pro work that I've seen in the wild. For ceilings and larger areas I'm starting to get the hang of using a speedskim - I usually give the wall a light sand when done (Highlights any highs and lows if any) and use easifill to prep if needed - good job there though!

      I've not tried a speedskim - Does it make the job easier? I've just been using a trowel and hawk and I'm happy with the finish I'm getting. Maybe when I refirb my utility room I'll give it a go.

      @@MATTDOESSTUFF2020 I think it does, as soon as the first coat is on go over with the speedskim and it gets everything nice and flat ready for the second coat. Another tip if you're slow at ceilings like me, add some extra time

      Thanks, the ceiling had a couple of trowel marks around the light cables, I've not learned how to manage that properly and there were a couple of other trowel marks but nothing serious and i fixed with a small amount of filler and a quick sand

    I'm going to have to stop watching some of your plastering type videos as I'm starting to believe I should have a go, which I know would end in disaster. Just in case I've got a couple of questions. Do you need to 'prime' the plasterboard with PVA or similar? You were working from right to left is that just choice or is there specific reasons?

    • @MATTDOESSTUFF2020
      @MATTDOESSTUFF2020  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Colin, no need to prime plasterboard it has the right suction properties. you need to prime/pva concrete or previously plastered background. I will go through that when I do the walls in my next video.
      And I think left to right just makes it easier to do the plastering sweeps, so you are sort of sweeping the trowel away from your body rather than towards you most of the time. that's for right handers anyway or at least as I understand it
