You cannot build meaningful long lasting communities online. Community requires reciprocated conversation and presence. Being physically around people and listening to them. Don’t fall for this marketing tactic.
you can absolutely build an online community. some of my favorite people are people i almost exclusively interact with online. it’s nice to have in person too, but discounting the value of online friendships is dumb
