  • Work from home or remotely now? With over 12 years of experience working from home (after getting laid off in 2008 during a similar world crisis), I wanted to film this video to help you if you're having to work from home or remotely for the first time, especially if you know you'll be doing this for a while.
There are a ton of challenges you'll face working from home. How will you remain productive? How will you make sure you don't overwork yourself? How will you communicate with those around you, like kids, your partner or roommates?
I'm hoping this video helps you, and if you're in need of some more help, I made my books, Let Go (about my lay off), and Will It Fly (about starting a business) available for FREE for the next 5 days, which is all Amazon will allow. Links below after the time stamps:

I do not understand this gender bias. Productivity videos provide knowledge, but why does gender in these videos even matter? If you use Uber don't they send a Male driver anyways when you want a safe ride home? Is the bank you use mainly dominated by Male control and you still use these services?

The one I would add that I have to do some is if you are wanting to procrastinate, start small. It's easier to talk yourself into doing something if you know you only have to do something that will take a few minutes. Then once you get in those few minutes, you can do anything you want, but chances are that you will want to keep going once you get the first few minutes in.

this was so on point! Especially the breaks, I do better when I have active breaks away from my desk like cleaning or walking or making sure I actually eat during my lunch breaks. I always say I’ll eat while I work but then I’m too distracted by my work to ever finish my food, so eating breakfast BEFORE signing online and eating during lunch is important. My last job was so active physically and now being at a desk at home had me super sleepy the first 4 weeks 🥲

These are things that I've also had to learn along the way. Sometimes it takes a while to implement these changes, so if someone is struggling remember that if you fail today you can sill get back on track tomorrow or the day after 👍 We tend to abandon habits as soon as we slack for a day, and it doesn't have to be that way! Missing a day does not equal complete failure 🙂

Yup slower start and longer ends. That’s me.
Yup find a spot (dining table sucks) now that I have an office, my husband keeps using it.
Yup working at all hours and on weekends
Yup scattered focus (wearing all the hats), move the needle, do the uncomfortable
Yay, I eat well, got that one nailed
Breaks? My whole day feels like a break so I linger in my office and don’t allow myself to go outside running. Not good.
Yay, I schedule pretty good. But I never thought of scheduling my routine (Breaks and check out including). I’ll do that.
    3. Controlling news intake. For sure! I control Everything that comes in including in the car!
    2. Connect with people face to face is the healthy way to run life and business.
    1. Communicate with the people around me? Never thought about that. I just do my work like a grinder and not bother anyone.
    Love you Pat

Great video! I’m now working from home for three years - main challenge especially at the beginning was lack of social contacts resulting in the fact that too much work was discussed with my wife, And also one should not underestimate the effect of the social contacts one has in a company over the day, which are not there when you were working from home.
    Stay safe!🏄🏽‍♂️☀️

ALL TIPS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Am new to WFH so was searching for info around this and found your video, THANK YOU!!!! Shifting gears from being a clinic office nurse to working from home with a different title is so different, this video hit home and makes sense now why I have been struggling. I've been so used to the "leaving home" home routine and all that goes with that preparedness, like the grocery list, the errands the kids needs before I even leave the house in the morning. Giving myself some grace around this transition but also noticing perhaps a fear that productivity is going out the window, Yikes. This video provides exactly what I need right now, Thanks so much!

personal experience: it is better to schedule workout or fitness goals towards evening or night because when i used to workout first thing in the morning and after that having a meal and getting a few hours of work done i was already pretty exhausted and i mean 3 hours max. and i couldnt recover for the rest of the day properly. so i learned to start my morning with a shower first thing in the morning followed by a coffee. Now I organise my workout in the evening and it has helped preserve my energy throughout the day.

I can deeply resonate with what you said to - Find your Spot. I was using my sister's room as a home office while she's in abroad. When the lock down happened in our area because of Covid-19, my cousin took refuge in our home and he used my sister's room (my home office). During that time, I transferred to our dining area to do some work - my productivity dropped. There were plenty of distractions as I can just go to our food storage immediately to get some snacks and eat, go to sala and watch Netflix, or be called up by my family to do something as I am always in their sight. When I had the room back as my cousin transferred to another room, I am becoming productive again.

#10, #7, & # 4 are biggest problems when working from home. I get less work done an spend too much time on things that “don’t move the needle!” Thanks for this video. I’m an architect still working in an office, but tried going into business on my own from home.

Organize workplace and information storage. Make backups of your data. Papers, items and data should organize when take them in, not collect piles of unorganized stuff.

I agree: this is an awesome educational video
What's your opinion about the niche of the work from home business?
What’s a better way to work from home:
to make money by selling unnecessary stuff or
to make money by selling plant based solutions for a better health?

most helpful tip for me is to Know what you are supposed to be doing. otherwise I may go off into a bunch of different directions and then feel guilty for not doing one of the main things on my list.

As one already experienced two months working from home, here are my tips
    1. First, get changed out of your pajamas every morning. It'll help get you in the right headspace for work and allow you to take video calls on the fly.
    2. Pick one or more dedicated workspaces, ideally with a decent chair that will support your back.
    3. But try to keep your bedroom as a sacred space for sleeping and relaxing where work is banned. It'll help make the work-life divide a little clearer.
    4. Wake up more than five minutes before your workday starts. You need time to prepare for the day, both mentally and physically.
    5. Try wearing shoes, because let's be real: You probably wouldn't be chilling barefoot in an office.
    6. Sign out and turn off notifications for work-related email and instant messaging when the day is over - especially if you're signed in on your personal devices.
    7. Overworking can be a real issue, so clearly define what hours you will be working and stick to it.
8.Also, take frequent breaks so you don't burn out. You're probably not actually working 100% of the time when you're in an office anyway.
9.Be sure to socialize after work, even if it's just a video call, to keep the loneliness at bay.
10.Communicate to people you live with that you're working, like if you have a video call with your coworkers and need everyone to be quiet.
    11. Use headphones and mute your microphone during conference calls (unless you're speaking) to minimize the amount of audio feedback and times that random sounds interrupt the conversation. Make a conference call highly recommend this tool Dingtalk Lite

i don't know howcome i took this long to discover you! thank you for making this video. it so true to some of the things you brought up here. to compartmantalize stuffs are also important. what i really feel is true is about taking breaks and when you leave work, you leave. cause working from home, there's no boundary line. i find myself working all the time. well, thank you very much once again for this reminder and video!

Hey Pat, you rock brother. Enjoyed this video. The segment that inspired me the most was simply the part where you talked about feeling reassured just knowing that someone is on the other end of a Webcast even though we can't connect in person right now. Your weekly office hours have been that exact inspiration for me.
I've worked from home since 2009. The two things that have most helped me are: (1) understanding the 8020 principle and using it to stay focused on the 20% of my work that generates 80% of results, and (2) A book called The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks Than Others Do in 12 Months

Great tips. I’ve been working from home for many years and I practice most of these tips myself. I try to avoid unnecessary distractions (social media, read/watching the news, etc). I miss the “face to face” interactions and need to do a better job at that. 👍

I agree, good video ...in my case, a morning routine that in between other things include stretching exercises, meditation, short cardio session, and ends with a cold GOD FORSAKEN shower really helps me feel prepared for work. Another is to know when extending work hours and "going the extra mile" is really necessary and if not then just close the computer, add it to my work agenda for the next day (so that it is out of my mind ), and move on. Cheers!

I am so thankful for your tipps! I am since three weeks and for the rest of my working life working from home and was afraid of getting into trouble with it especially mentally. But comparing your tipps with the way I Do it already, gives me confidence and a very good feeling. Blesses to Robin Sharna I am on my 43rd Day of the 5 am morning Routine which contents 20+ minutes move/sports, 20 minutes meditation/journaling and 20 minutes growing by studying as well as the 90 Minute Focus and a must to Pause afterwards and so on .... :) In addition I go for a 30 minute run at lunchtime, take a shower, eat the food I prepared the day before in calm and with joy and return 1 hour later extremly happy to work. With your tipps combined (especially: working spot, face2face connection, fully Focus either on work or belogen ones) I feel a great Benefit now and have no More worries about how my homeoffice Situation is going to work out in the future! Trank you so much, Flynn! You're great! 🎉😊
