Ann and Nancy are so incredibly talented. Their 70s music is my absolute favorite - Magic Man and Barracuda - I never get tired of listening to those songs!
Hearing that Ann also does not like that song filled my "Heart" with joy, lol. I never liked it, I thought it was a cheap song, not worthy of Heart's talent. Hearing why Ann did not like it clarifies my dislike even more. I love your channel, I tell everyone I know to check it out. Keep up the good work!
I adore Heart, but you are spot on about this song. It gave me a major creep out vibe, along with the video. I can't blame Ann and Nancy if they don't want to perform it. My favorite Heart song is Dog & Butterfly, I just love the simplicity and beauty of it compared to their hard rock roots.
Massive talent. Pioneers of Rock for sure. They opened so many doors for subsequent artists. So professional as well. And beautiful on top of that. Nothing but admiration and respect for the Wilson sisters.
Ann looks fantastic. I've always thought she was beautiful, but it's amazing how well she's aged, and hasn't been tempted with plastic surgery or anything. Just a natural beauty.
@@toddshroyer4227 - Just looking at some of the photos of her on some of the album covers shown in this video confirms for me too that she's had work done. She does look great, though! The doctors knew what they were doing 🙂
She battled liver issues from her drinking (to hide her Ana ED) and took medicines to correct it, hence the weight gain but she's looking healthier and clearer and more beautiful than ever.
My all time favourite ''Heart'' track. It only made No.62 on it's 1986 release here in Great Britain which I find very odd as it captures the essence of the 80s I feel, which I would know as I grew up in the 80s as a young boy and through my teenage years. Drive, by ''Cars'' is another classic that fits that sweet essence. Aaaaaahhh, a perfect era.
Even tho I consider myself a metal guy I’ve always loved heart, probably cuz my parents listened to them a lot when I was a kid in the 70’s. Anne’s voice.....perfection.
I love how calm and settled Ann is these days. Been a fan since the late 70's and own all of their early albums. I wish you would have asked her about performing Stairway to Heaven in front of the boys. It was the BEST cover of that song EVER. It was such a perfect blend of LZ and Heart. I watch the vid often.
I agree... The first time I actually watched the video it blew me away...I have never seen Ann and Nancy so in tune with a song, and I've been fortunate to see them 2 time's in the 80s..Heart/Heart Tour and Bad Animal's Tour.. They were both great, but nothing like the tribute to their Music Hero's LZ...Ann Wilson slayed that song.. Period
I was halfheartedly hoping, a few years ago, that just Maybe.... since Robt Plant was not interested in doing a Zep reunion tour.... that Page, Jones, and Jason Bonham would do a tour with Ann singing and Nancy on backup guitar as Led Zeppelin featuring The Wilson Sisters.... it would've been So Good! Alas.... it was never seriously considered. Don't know if it ever was contemplated.... but since JP Jones worked with Heart on The Road Home record, and Jason Bonham was friends with the Wilsons from being their opening act on a tour, the ability of Heart to absolutely Nail any LZ tune they ever covered would seem to have made that coupling a potentially great idea. 🤔
She's so creative. I love to just listen to what she says and between what she says, she has so much to say and teach about the creative process, and following your feelings instead of the money only. Great interview, she really opened up.
One of my all time favorite female vocalist. Heart proved women could perform rock and roll just as well as a man. No more silly little love songs. And did I mention how absolutely gorgeous she is!
With you on that one. That song has always bothered me as well. I go back further with my two favorite songs though, Little Queen and Rocking Heaven Down.
I've known for quite awhile Ann didn't care for AIWDIMLTY. The sound has a great feel and groove to it. Ann kills it when she sings, "Please, please understand...!!" She gave that song an intimacy that nobody expected. Kudos to her. I don't have a Heart song I dislike, but I sure wish Ann would start performing "Magic Man" again!!
I remember when All I Wanna Do was popular, I was working with someone who loved the song but hadn't heard any other Heart. I brought some older Heart in for them to listen to, they actually didn't like it (too heavy). At that point I realized it was written for other people and not for me.
One of the truly wonderful things about today’s technology is the ability to hear such in depth interviews about someone who was always such an enigma.
The You Tube of MISTRAL WIND from Seattle is one of the greatest music clips ever on You Tube. A completely interesting composition and a massive performance on that particular night.
Stevie is up there, but she cant "belt" it like Ann. Benatar or Blondie?.....not quite. Jett or Chrissie?... ok but still not there. Annie Lennox is a little late to the party, but comes closest to Anns level of vocals. yeah.....no question.....Anns the best. and dont even mention Slick........blech.
She's had liver issues and was taking meds for it, which mess d with her weight. But she battled Ana (the ED) during the 70s so to make quips about her weight is disgusting.
Yeah I saw them in concert in the late 90s maybe? The stadium I was in was terrible for music; acoustics were awful. And my seat had me looking down through ceiling lights right down at the stage. Everybody on stage was pretty much just big blobs. I hate to be mean but she'd definitely been eating well.
Heart represents my own moment of awakening to the world of Rock music. I was a recruit in Marine Corps back in '77 nearing the end of my Boot camp. We had our "liberty day" for visitors prior to graduation day and I had nobody to come visit me, so I decided to roam about the base, quickly finding myself in the base library. A recently released album of Little Queen caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a listen (side note: the library had an unusual set of air powered headphones to hear music on - not sure why). I was so thoroughly hooked by the 3rd song (Sylvan Song) that I was transported to a whole new world the moment that bass kicked in, and I still relive that transformative moment every time I hear that album. I must have listened to that album 3 times before I had to leave to get back to the barracks. My very first purchase after getting liberty after boot camp was that album.
Ann Wilson is my favorite vocalist, period. There is no gender involved in best singers to me. My second favorite is Robin Zander. When I saw Cheap Trick open for STP in 1997, I was shocked how he could still hit those same notes he hit back in 1977, and there were no effects (I actually also saw Cheap Trick open for RATT in 1988 and Robin Crosby had a pitch corrector for sure). Check out the video on TH-cam for Heart at CalJam. My goodness, Ann goes beyond the album even. So cool you got all these interviews with her. I always wondered what the song order would have been on "Little Queen" had the contractual rift with Mushroom not happened and the songs on side 1 of "Magazine" would have been in the mix. That would have been a deadlier album with "Heartless" and "Devil Delight".
i really liked that you talked about "the night" and "under the sky", as they're the best songs off the album. I wished you talked a bit more about "Desire walks on", which was such an underrated album, that definitely deserves more credit, as it shows a period where the band dropped commercial success just to make what they wanted instead. Great video as always!
Sweet interview. Ann is a real rock hero. Heart's music always transports me to my cruisin' days back in west Seattle in the 70's. I remember blasting Heart's Little Queen album in my muscled up '70 Plymouth Duster and the gals just came a-runnin. Thanks Ann & Nancy.
I was born in 89 and began listening to Ann by my own accord and think she is the best female vocalist that has touched the rock scene! Absolutely love Ann!
She is amazing. Saw Heart Fall of 2019. Knew they still 'had it' but was seriously unprepared for just how GREAT THEY STILL ARE. Anne's voice would have blown the hair off my head (if I had any). Lol! 😜😁
Same love that song but it gets to me sometimes as my 1st Hubby left me and i got the album after and i was like OMG ...but i do still love that album :D
Born in Jan., ‘71, I’m just so grateful I was exposed to my older brother’s records of Heart. And then in high school I got “Never,” “What About Love,” “Alone” and “The Wolf,” etc...
This is so surprising to me! I adore this song and I've always thought it tells a really beautiful story. " I told him I am the flower, you are the seed. We walked in a garden. We planted a tree."
She cheats on a guy she "loves" and has him raise a child thats not his and uses the other guy as a sperm donor ......beautiful?? Im glad she hates it ,makes me like her more
I love Heart and like that song, but it did get overplayed at the time of its release. I remember a frustrated radio DJ exclaiming, "Would someone make love to her already?!" after playing the song for the umpteenth time.
I was a top 40 radio jock when it came out. Yeah we got tired of it! I got a talking to when I went on the air and said “No, but can you introduce me to your sister?”
The funny thing is, I think Ann underrates it by saying it's about a one-night stand. The protagonist was using the guy as a means to an end. He got what he wanted, and she got what she wanted (and needed, due to shortcomings, pun intended!). It was a win-win! Very cleverly written. How does it even work if you switch to a male protagonist? 🤔
Have always loved Ann & Nancy Wilson's music, been listening to them since Dreamboat Annie, they are still a great band, with even better vocal power. So needless to say, I'm a big fan of Heart, they are looking good in 2021, keep on Rockin Ann & Nancy Wilson !!!
Queen Ann, THE first lady of Rock. Great interview. Fyi ,any guitar player is also a bass player. The bass is the backbone of every song, in fact. Little Queen gets my vote. Love alive is one of the few acoustic favorites i play. Great songs.
The difference having someone who actually knows music and genuinely loves music interviewing a musician is amazing and the artist recognises it and they open up more as they know they're respected. This guy deserves his own show.
Great interview - I haven't seen many with Ann but I love her storytelling ability. And her speaking voice is as mesmerizing as her singing voice. I think she is the best female vocalist ever. It's one thing to sing like that on a produced recording, but she's just as good live on stage. I wore out all the Heart albums growing up. Favorite songs - Dog and Butterfly and Crazy on You.
I actually really like this song. But do agree with her: it’s creepy. But, honestly, it’s kind of creepy originally, too. To me, this is one of those songs that has a really off premise, but turns out into a great song, like Don’t Stand So Close to Me, Every Breath You Take, and so on. I can see how she might not want to sing it, but I still dig it a lot.
I LOVE this interview!! Thank you so much! 5:59 I'm so glad you asked about "The Night" and, later, "Under the Sky". "Brigade" is actually one of my favorite Heart albums. It was the first album where Ann really started to get a little grit in her voice, and songs like "Tall, Dark, Handsome Stranger", while insipid, feature some of Ann's best recorded vocals in her entire career. "All I Wanna Do" proved you could throw crap at incredibly talented artists and they can shine it up enough to make it worthy of being a centerpiece! Ann is and always be the Queen of Rock n' Roll. I'd love to hear her and Ronnie Dio sing a duet in the afterlife - after Ann enjoys at least a couple more decades of rockin' here with us! Thanks again for reminding us of this excellent album. I felt like Heart finally made up for the 80s with this one. Shame on you for editing out what Ann had to say about the Lovemongers' anti-war/peace message! I know we're not allowed to have opinions that upset our warmongering corporate masters, but if a legend like Ann Wilson can't talk about peace, we're in real trouble. The next thing you know, they'll censor the President in "social" media. Oh, wait! Ugh …
They made the anti-war song You're The Voice to be associated with United States fighting Nazi Germany as though the United States bombing a defenseless destitute country like Iraq was the equivalent
I grew up in Seattle and DJ'd in several local stations EXCEPT the rock station "KZOK Seattle's best Rock". I wanted that gig at KZOK so bad because to meet Ann and Nancy was my greatest desire, plus it WAS rock, come on. Crazy on You, Barracuda and Magic Man all have a special place for me because of the sound of Heart and the story telling in the music.

Ann Wilson is one of, If not the Greatest Female Vocalist in Rock history.
Linda Ronstadt
@@Joseph-wy2mq it’s a tough call between them
Linda had a beautiful voice
Ann has a stronger Rock voice.
She is one of the greatest vocalist (male or female)in Rock history
I love Anne Wilson but honestly I love her work the most with the original band from the 70s.
Heartless is a really really good song. Heart is astonishing
She is very eloquent and intelligent. Clearly a deep thinker by watching her.
You forgot to include talented and beautiful!
God she's amazing. Anne Wilson...All that is woman. I wish I had someone like her.. I am however undeserving.
@@ironmyno I had such a crush on her when Heart first came out. In the 80's, people were making such a big deal about her weight gain, but it didn't matter to me at all. She was still a goddess in my eyes.
Did you expect her to be drooling and talking out her head or something?
Red Special👍
I’ve always hated that song. I actually feels a little better about Heart knowing that Ann hated it too.
It's horrible!
Same!! I have always been a HUGE Heart fan but I can't stand that song and I'm really glad to know that she hates it too. I don't know why that makes me feel so much better but it does!
I never cared for it either. once i found out what te song was about, I,too, was kinda grossed out.
Hate this song...let's talk about cheating on our husband to get knocked up...strange storyline
Terrible song. Turned the radio off when it came on.
Ann and Nancy are so incredibly talented. Their 70s music is my absolute favorite - Magic Man and Barracuda - I never get tired of listening to those songs!
Yessssss
You should not forget the guys in the original band that also helped create that sound.
Same
Hearing that Ann also does not like that song filled my "Heart" with joy, lol. I never liked it, I thought it was a cheap song, not worthy of Heart's talent. Hearing why Ann did not like it clarifies my dislike even more. I love your channel, I tell everyone I know to check it out. Keep up the good work!
There will never be another voice like this. She is one of a kind!
Love Dog and Butterfly! You are so right! How deep it goes is pretty awesome too.
I agree. I loved the older Heart songs and didn't care for this one but Heart is always #1 to me
Dog and Butterfly is also my favorite Heart song. Beautiful music. Beautiful women.
Now I'm going to run in circles the rest of the day... "Dog and Butterfly" or "Dream of the Archer"? I can't decide!
My favorite "smile on my face" feelgood tune is "Say Hello" ...
All that money and didn’t spend ANYTHING on plastic surgery, so good you can’t tell.
and NO DRUGS LOL
Larry, you need to go back and look at other pics of her, it's pretty obvious she's had work done
She's obviously had some Botox injections at the very least. Anyone over 50 has wrinkles. She doesn't. LOL
@@toddshroyer4227 - Just looking at some of the photos of her on some of the album covers shown in this video confirms for me too that she's had work done. She does look great, though! The doctors knew what they were doing 🙂
Love Heart, "How can I refuse" "There's the girl" "Never" and soo many others. The Wilson sisters are as talented as they are beautiful.
I used to hitch hike. I loved that song. Ive always loved heart. People critizise Ann for gaining weight. But her resonance improved so much.
Fuck that weight thing! Her talent supercedes all.
She battled liver issues from her drinking (to hide her Ana ED) and took medicines to correct it, hence the weight gain but she's looking healthier and clearer and more beautiful than ever.
I had a feeling it would be this song... Such a departure from "Barracuda." BTW you just cannot go wrong with that Boston shirt... Historic!
He has a fabulous tshirt collection; everytime he’s on, the Prof is wearing another iconic tee!
Oh yeah, "All I want to Do is Make Love to You" smells to high heaven. Not one of Heart's better moments.
I LOVE THAT SHIRT TOO LOL
@@marvinbush7304 CMON MAN GREAT SONG think of the meaning
Yeah, I figured it would be this song as well
These Dreams get me so nostalgic it's not even funny. Instantly in the 80s.
I agree. So underrated.
Agreed
It reminded me of the Hershey's commercials for their white chocolate. One of my few odd memories from my teenage years. ;-)
OMG. I know right? So nostalgic and one of the songs that makes me long for the 80s so bad.
I’ve always thought ‘who will you run to?’ Is a grossly underrated song.
That's the song I listen to the most, it rocks harder, and sounds great!!! I agree 💯 percent with you!!! 👍
How Can I Refuse as well!! I agree with you.
The Wilson sisters's autobiography is a must read.
My friend Chris Blaine was a good friend to the wilson sister’s he got a mention in their book
I would love that 😇😇
"Love Alive" is my all time favorite Heart song!!
Mine is the whole album "Little Queen".
I LOVE "Love Alive." It is so underrated.
Mine is Mistral Wind, at least for Ann showing off her vocal talent. But Love Alive is incredible for all the pieces, especially Nancy's guitar work.
I am partial to 'Dream of the Archer'... such terrific mandolin playing...
I agree, what a great song!
I literally just watched it again yesterday. It never gets old. Especially the look of Robert Plant looking so touched near the end.
She’s aging very nicely. Like a fine wine. Love Heart!!!!
We really love you Ann. Thank you for this interview. You are a big part of all our lives. Your voice has touched our souls. ❤💙💚💛🧡💜💖💝💗❤
My favorite female rock band...their songs are anthems. Thank you Ann and Nancy. Love you both.
She's so creative. I love to just listen to what she says and between what she says, she has so much to say and teach about the creative process, and following your feelings instead of the money only. Great interview, she really opened up.
She's awesome. Nice, humble and has one of the all-time greatest voices.
I checked Wikipedia and Ann is 72! She looks early forties at the most and she's still so beautiful !amazing!
Best vocalist in rock. Hugely underrated.
One of my all time favorite female vocalist. Heart proved women could perform rock and roll just as well as a man. No more silly little love songs. And did I mention how absolutely gorgeous she is!
They’ve been my favorite since the 70,s . I gotta say she has never looked more beautiful. Age has been good to her and she is lovely.
I finally got to see Heart when they toured OZ with Def Leppard back in 2011. They were great. Ann's vocals were amazing. Great concert.
Love you Ann for your captivating & enchanting voice. Love you "Heart ".
I agree with Anne, the song “All I want To Do” is creepy. My FAVORITE 2 songs are Alone and These Dreams.
I always thought that too!
Yes.
I absolutely agree. Leave out a few excessive ballads and Brigade is a great rock album.
I actually love it more than Alone but not as much as These Dreams and What about Love?
With you on that one. That song has always bothered me as well. I go back further with my two favorite songs though, Little Queen and Rocking Heaven Down.
I've known for quite awhile Ann didn't care for AIWDIMLTY. The sound has a great feel and groove to it. Ann kills it when she sings, "Please, please understand...!!" She gave that song an intimacy that nobody expected. Kudos to her. I don't have a Heart song I dislike, but I sure wish Ann would start performing "Magic Man" again!!
Agree about "Magic Man" totally!!
I remember when All I Wanna Do was popular, I was working with someone who loved the song but hadn't heard any other Heart. I brought some older Heart in for them to listen to, they actually didn't like it (too heavy). At that point I realized it was written for other people and not for me.
As they say in the southern states.... "Well Bless Their Heart" 🤣
Some people's taste in music is beyond help.
As a BIG fan of Heart. I just happened to meet Anne at IAD years ago while I was working for the airlines. A very nice lady in person.
one of THE BEST female rock and roll voices.
And Nancy one the best Guitarist.
Name a better one... you can’t.
Actually, THE BEST.
Not one of, more simply THE BEST
Stevie is up there, but she cant "belt" it like Ann.
Benatar or Blondie?.....not quite.
Jett or Chrissie?... ok but still not there.
Annie Lennox is a little late to the party, but comes closest to Anns level of vocals.
yeah.....no question.....Anns the best.
and dont even mention Slick........blech.
Ann looks healthier than she did in past years.
Skinnier
1111 shoutout
It's so great to see.
"NEVER" was one of my very favorites!
Agreed.
Yes, great song!
I kind of remember Ann &/or Nancy saying they didn’t like that song either.
Too bad, I liked it..
That was the 'first' Heart song I ever heard!
In every one of these segments, I am struck by Ann's authenticity. She seems like the real deal.
i really liked that you talked about "the night" and "under the sky", as they're the best songs off the album. I wished you talked a bit more about "Desire walks on", which was such an underrated album, that definitely deserves more credit, as it shows a period where the band dropped commercial success just to make what they wanted instead. Great video as always!
Could not agree with you more about Desire Walks On... I never get tired of that album..
Desire walks on is one of my favorites
Under the Sky is one of my absolute favorite songs. They both contribute their best to this wonderful song. Love. It. Love. Heart. ❤️
Amazing how this smoky voiced woman can hit and sustain those high notes that she does.
She is amazing. Saw Heart Fall of 2019. Knew they still 'had it' but was seriously unprepared for just how GREAT THEY STILL ARE. Anne's voice would have blown the hair off my head (if I had any).
Lol! 😜😁
@@brucedillinger9448 💕😃
I was hoping you would mention the song "Stranded" from this album. That was my favorite song on the album, and definitely #1 in my ♥️!
My favorite song from the album too!
Same love that song but it gets to me sometimes as my 1st Hubby left me and i got the album after and i was like OMG ...but i do still love that album :D
"Stranded" has always been one of my favorites. I had my now husband listen to it when we had temporarily split up
The only Heart song that makes me change the station.
I almost never hear it played on radio. Give me “These Dreams,” “Straight On” or “What About Love” any day!
You aren't a real fan of anyone or anything unless there is that one thing you detest.
Should have left it to Dobie Gray, I guess.
As opposed to baracuda which makes you turn it up to max volume.
@@MrBeard-ig5zc Or Kick It Out, or Crazy On You, or, well, damn, just about anything from their first four albums.
We planted a tree."
thats the very line I dislike ..... I love the boldness of the song otherwise,
She cheats on a guy she "loves" and has him raise a child thats not his and uses the other guy as a sperm donor ......beautiful??
Im glad she hates it ,makes me like her more
I love Heart and like that song, but it did get overplayed at the time of its release. I remember a frustrated radio DJ exclaiming, "Would someone make love to her already?!" after playing the song for the umpteenth time.
I was a top 40 radio jock when it came out. Yeah we got tired of it! I got a talking to when I went on the air and said “No, but can you introduce me to your sister?”
LOL!!
@@carlwilliams6977 she wanted a child, her husband was Impotent though.
@@marcofalzone6469 EXACTLY! Did you read my post? I guess I wasn't obvious enough! 🤣
These conversations NEED to happen for all artists
Have always loved Ann & Nancy Wilson's music, been listening to them since Dreamboat Annie, they are still a great band, with even better vocal power. So needless to say, I'm a big fan of Heart, they are looking good in 2021, keep on Rockin Ann & Nancy Wilson !!!
One song not mentioned in your interviews and also on Brigade was Wild Child. I think it is very under-rated rocker. Anyone else think as I do?
Queen Ann, THE first lady of Rock. Great interview. Fyi ,any guitar player is also a bass player. The bass is the backbone of every song, in fact. Little Queen gets my vote. Love alive is one of the few acoustic favorites i play. Great songs.
The difference having someone who actually knows music and genuinely loves music interviewing a musician is amazing and the artist recognises it and they open up more as they know they're respected. This guy deserves his own show.
for me ann wilson was and still is the best singer of all time .her beauty was equal to her magnific voice, unique in the world.
Best female rock voice ever. Can't imagine anyone being better and still unique. She really is the best.
Love Ann so much, idk everything about her is so cool.
Magic Man & Crazy on you, my favorites. I saw them in early nineties ❤
I love Ann and Nancy, great talent and very cool people. True artists. Enjoyed this interview.
