      So far the only thing I have done is oiled the chain and adjusted the brakes, not bad for that many miles🙂

    I have an ecotric 26 fat tire electric bike. From 2019 i cycled the battery maybe 15 times since I've owned it. The bike is like new, I've maintained the battery very well and I've checked it with a multimeter and it appears to be fine, reading 40v volts at full charge. This is how it all started, The throttle stopped working and I couldn't figure out what the problem was, But i noticed it did work when the handlebars were turned all the way to the right, so that lead me to do more research and i came to the conclusion that it was one of the brake sensors. So I unhooked both of them and now the throttle works fine. And I don't know if this is related or not to the brake sensors being unhooked or shorted out somewhere but now I only get 5 miles on a full charge throttle only, when I used to get like 15 or something throttle only. So after the battery is drained after i get my measly 5 miles it only takes 1 hour to charge, Its the same thing every time and we all know these batteries after being discharged take around 6 hours to fully charge. But for some reason after the battery is discharged I plug it in and an hour later, the green light is on and the meters on the side of the battery say its fully charged. and the LCD display also shows fully charged, but then i only get to ride it for 5 miles, can somebody please help me? I cant figure this out, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated Thank you in advance!

      Sounds like your bike computer thinks the battery is run down when it really is not. Which is why it recharges in an hour. I wish I knew more about PCM's as that is what it sounds like. Maybe someone else will chime in with more helpful info. If you do figure it out, please report back so it will help others : )

      I wonder how the two bikes compare side to side? I wonder if the Hammer is worth 500 more. I know the Hammer is a little bigger bike because of the design, but not sure about the range. I can get 20 miles pedaling at 5 PAS in almost all conditions. The lowest I have gotten was 16 miles , but that was on a 40mph wind day. I have went 35 miles if I try to conserve and use lower pedal assist. What kind of mileage do you get?

    the manual says not to change the voltage settings.
    Is that because of the battery , or the motor or controller?
    I want to upgrade to a 48 volt battery. I thinking that because the display has a 48v setting than the bike should be able to handle it, but I'm not sure.
    Ecotric wont respond back to my questions.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard it was because of the controller, they said it would burn it up as it is only rated for 36v, but I am not sure if true or not. The reason 48v is available as a setting is because they use the same display on their 48v bikes.
      Are you trying to go faster or further? If faster, you can change out the freewheel. I did that and I average 2-3 mph faster. I even went over 40 mph down a crazy hill and was able to peddle the whole time.
      If you find out anything, please let me know as I would love to know if it could handle 48v.

    • @williampennjr.4448
      @williampennjr.4448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@papablueshirt I've gotten up to about 26 mph which is plenty fast for me. I'm just trying to get more range. I've heard you can do that by using a battery with more voltage.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding for more range you are looking for more Amp hours. I have a 10 AH battery and a 13 AH. I can really tell the difference between the two. Have you looked at this 24 ah battery? amzn.to/39GFceN
      (paid link)
      It is 36v but with 24ah. I think that would be twice as much range as the standard battery.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I measured and the post where you put the seat post in and it is 32 inches from the ground. The stock seat is kind of thick, so it does add a lot. I am about 5'8" and I thought it was going to be too big for me, but when I made the post and seat change, it is fine. After 5000 miles, I have gotten used to it LOL. I actually could put my seat down 4-5 inches, so there is plenty of room for adjustment. I hope that helps.

      @@papablueshirt I'm the same height so I think this bike will work. I appreciate you taking the time to measure. Where I live there are lots of nice size hills and I'm about 210lbs. Do you think the bike will make it up with throttle only and any guess at what speed? Thanks again.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am about 175, I ride up a hill I call the crazy hill. Here is a link to it th-cam.com/video/FREwqyfZ5fs/w-d-xo.html
      The hill is so steep that I get up to about 32 mph coasting. I can make it up, but I have to down shift all the way and peddle. But that hill is the exception. That hill is scary going down in a car.
      Most hills are not like that.
      If the hill is not real long and not too steep you can power up without peddling. Most of my riding I can coast down one side of the hill with the throttle engaged, and I will make it up and over the other side. So I get going about 24 mph, by the time I get to the top I am only going a few mph. If you peddle you can keep up your speed, it really depends on the hill.
      Hub motors are not known for their great hill climbing, but for riding on the road, I find they do really well. 😀

      Glad you liked it. I generally know that I can go 16 miles in any windy condition, so I have about 4 or 5 routes I ride that are 16-18 miles. I ride those all out as fast as I can go on PAS 5.
      That being said, I did go 65 miles with 2 batteries and had 2 bars left on the 2nd battery. You can see that run here th-cam.com/video/Hinz1_YIUwc/w-d-xo.html

      Sounds cool. The speedrid was on my short list, but I deciding on the ecotric because I wanted the fat tires. I am glad I did as I have been riding quite a few rugged trails and the fat tires make it nice. I see mud holes where the guy before me sunk down 4-8 inches and I just go right over the top.
      I know what you mean about size, my ecotric is almost too big for me. I can stand on the ground but I have to be careful, if you know what I mean. I do like my ecotric though, I have put on 1200 miles since Oct. Probably about 1/2 trails and 1/2 road. I feel 16 again LOL

    • @marcs4091
      @marcs4091 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@papablueshirt me too a little over a thousand mile as well, the Speedrid is a 26in fat tire bike as well. Now that I think about Speedrid may be the line of bikes not the model. It's very similar to the one you have, it may even have the same motor.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, I see the model now. I was thinking about the speedrid mountain bike. The fat tire bike does look pretty similar, probably made at the same factory LOL I will probably upgrade in the spring to a different model. It is so hard to decide which one as there are so many choices. But I for sure want a dual battery model as I always seem to run out of juice before I want to stop riding and you can get range anxiety pretty fast as fat tire bikes are real heavy to pedal without power. One trail I ride is 31 miles and you have to ride in 1st gear and PAS 1 most of the time. I think I can do it on one battery, but do not want to end up walking 5 miles in the bush if you know what I mean. I did have a pakrak bag to carry the extra battery in, but on my 2nd trip I got 2 miles in and it broke on me. [upcoming video will document it ;) ] The pakrak I had was the kind that hangs off the seat post, so the trail ended up being too hard on it. I have since bought a regular mount rack and hope it will do better. I tried to figure out a way I could mount the battery, but there is really no way to do that. On top of the tube, it would end up neutering me and there is no room underneath.
      I really like the super monarch crown, but the bike is pretty heavy and I load in my van with 2 other bikes, so there are a lot of things to consider. We have worked out a way to load them all in a mini van, so I may stick with it for a while. I will say that I am bitten by the bug though. Me and the wife ride about 20 miles a day on average and feel deprived when we can not ride because of rain or extreme cold :)

      I am 5’8” the bike is a little tall for me, but after almost 11k miles I have gotten used to it. The last time I checked the link in description it was just over 700 which is a fabulous deal. Hope that helps 😊

    Do you miss having front shocks ?

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because of the big tires and the way the rim is made, it acts as a shock. The rim has 1 inch holes all the way around the inside of the rim that helps to absorb the bumps. I took it out last week on an intermediate course and it did ride pretty well. The course was full of washed out ruts and roots from trees big enough to hit my pedals on and it went through no problem. Yesterday I did some airborne jumps and was surprised how it [and me] handled it.
      So I would say if you are going to do major hardcore off road riding, then you may want one with shocks. But so far the big tires have performed well for me. Hope that helps.

    Can you help me figure out the throttle?

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah sure can. These have what they call a 1/2 throttle. This enables you to hold on the handle bar without using the throttle. When you need the throttle you just rotate your thumb and fore finger on the right side and you can activate the throttle. The throttle will give you the top speed in what ever peddle assist you are in. Example: if you are in PAS 1 it will only throttle to that level. If you want a higher throttle, you have to increase the PAS setting. The throttle is very handy for when you first get started as it gives you momentum. It is also handy when you need to outrun dogs. I hope that helps, if you have any questions, please let me know 🙂

    Is it to tall for riders 5’5 and shorter?

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I believe it would be too big for those 5'5" or shorter. My wife is about that size and she can not ride mine. She tried once and fell. I am about 5'8" , I am used to it now, but at first I thought it was too tall. We got my wife and daughter a Rad mini step thru 2 which is perfect for smaller people. She has about 1800 miles on hers and loves it. If you want to check them out, this link will give you a 50 dollar discount :)

    Can I ask how tall you are? I just placed an order for one of these and I'm concerned it will be way too big or me. I'm 5'8".

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I started out the same at 5'8", but over the years I think I have shrunk a little LOL. You should be fine. I have to tip it down to get on [ I am not as limber as I used to be and have back issues], but once I start riding it is perfect. I can stand on the ground, but have to be careful if you know what I mean. :)

      I finally got the bike. I got the 1000W version (Hammer) which I thought was the same height as yours but it's even bigger. I have to tiptoe just to stand over the center and even then, it "touches". The recommended rider height is 5'7" to 6'3" but it's really too big for anyone under 6 feet. It's comfortable when riding it but I dread the day when I get stopped in my tracks on a triail and instinctively try to step off on both sides instead of tilting it to get off the bike. ;) Maybe I'll get used to it.

    So what's electric about it because he keeps pedaling

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Many ebikes can be ridden without peddling, but most people use them to assist. Which means you have to peddle. The assist helps people with physical problems to be able to get back in the game and ride again Think of it this way. You can ride a regular bike and go 8 mph, or use an ebike and go 15 or 20 with the same effort. People like to say it is cheating, but in reality you end up riding more because you enjoy it so much. You also go further for the same reason. I ride 10-25 miles a day depending on the weather. It makes me feel 16 again. I will never go back, it has changed my life. I had not rode a bike for 20 years, and went from 0 miles to 1700 miles in 4 months as it is so much fun. And I lost a lot of weight in the process. Thanks for the comment : )

    Was hoping there would be an actual review... Like after your ride, rather than just following you around in a car.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am sorry you were disappointed. The reviews will come further down the line. This video was just me getting used to the bike and having some fun. Doing a review on the first day I received it, would be like reviewing a toaster on the way home from Walmart. Basically the review would be " This thing is shiny and it looks neat I hope it makes good toast" That would not be much of a review, if you know what I mean.
      I now have almost 1500 miles on the bike, so a review now would have more meaning.
      Until my full review comes, here is my mini review:
      This bike has changed my life. I went from barely being able to walk, to riding 1500 miles in 3 months. The bike introduced me to a whole new way of life and changed the course I was on. I even rode 18 miles today in 19 degree weather on Christmas, I just can not get enough. The bike has performed almost flawlessly in the 1500 miles. The only thing I have done is adjusted the brakes and oiled the chain. I also added things to the bike as far as accessories, the best thing I added was an extra battery. I ride on trails now that would have been challenging when I was 16.
      Things I do not like about the bike:
      The brake levers are switched around compared to my wife's bike. I have to be super careful when I ride hers to keep from going over the handle bars. I wish the battery would last longer on windy days, but that is an issue that all bikes have because of pesky physics. I wish it had bottle mounts. I wish the throttle would have full power no matter what the PAS setting like my wife's bike. example: If I am in PAS 1, the throttle will only power to PAS 1. My wife's bike will give PAS 5 power on any setting. This comes in handy when you try to outrun a dog. I can not have full power unless I am on PAS 5.
      Verdict: Would I buy it again? You betcha, I can not believe I did not discover e-bikes earlier and this e-bike in particular.
      I hope that helps, if you have any questions I will do my best to answer. I hope you had a great Christmas : )

      @@papablueshirt thanks for such a detailed response. Much appreciated. Although don't agree with your toaster analogy - unlike a new not yet used toaster, you actually rode the bike for some time that first day. Enough time to give first impressions I mean. Ànyway, you more than made up for it with your response, and for that I thank you. Great to see what a positive effect it has had on your well being too!

      They do have all electric bikes, however they are not legal on most trails or on the road for that matter. Where as a class 2 ebike is generally legal wherever you can ride a bike. It is a blast, makes me feel 16 again : )
