    I’m always struggling with telling people “no” and another thing.. if I’m able to tell them “no” I struggle with leaving it at that. Rather I go on to explain my reasoning or am drawn into explaining my reasoning which further leads people into doing their best to change my mind or guilt me into acquiescing. (Edited)

      I dont have energy to write an essay about it. So, i would keep it short.
      1. Always say "no", when people try to take advantage of you. You will eliminate the potential threat and people will respect you.
      2. You are having trouble with telling people" no". To solve that you have to make it a habit. At first it is hard but it become easier. Trust me i was like you too. I would rather make problem for myself than hurting other.

    This sometimes happens to me even with fun/games: I plan the campain of a strategy game, for example, and that's the fun part, not actually playing. When I was a kid I used to spend more time planning the game (like the lore, the personality of the characters/toys, where every character lives, works, etc.), and then I got bored after 5 mins of playing and started over with another plan lol

    I'm definitely an INTP but one thing that never resonated was a lack of fashion. I had 2 older sisters so I feel like environmentally I was geared towards more conscientious style/clothing. I also got a job in high fashion when I was 19. When I started working in clothing I learned fashion as a process/system. I learned the rules and reflected on which ones I should follow and which ones were more emergent verse innate. I definitely still have moments that I don't dress "nicely"; but that isn't due to an obliviousness of fashion/aesthetics, rather it's from my perception on whether attire/fashion is important in the situation.

    • @aminebencheikh6403
      @aminebencheikh6403 4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Exactly. It's true that there is this stereotype about INTPs that they don't know how to dress, but typically it's because they're not that interested/don't pay much attention to fashion. Once we realise the value of dressing well, or take a casual interest in it, we will go about it in a systematic way like we do with everything else, and we can get good at it.

    • @Alpharexx
      @Alpharexx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I think if you are an INTP that is interested in arts, or have a parent as an artist, you'll naturally develop a sort of natural eye for what is beautiful (in the general sense) and so you might be good at dressing properly, matching colors, decorating etc. I know I do, but I seldom care to because what's the point lol

    • @zarinaemerson1829
      @zarinaemerson1829 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree. It definitely doesn't apply to me now. When I was younger I used to dress sloppier compared to my friends and family, mostly because I didn't care how others thought of me and the energy required to dress well was too much.

      i think it’s another outlet of expression for the intp, if they care to do it. In my years i’ve found myself pushing boundaries or mixing things up in an interesting way. For instance, i think the business jacket with a hoodie is the intp idea of high fashion lol anyway I grew up in a house full of women and in a neighborhood where you would be ridiculed for not keeping up with trends so that’s important to me.

    The clothing thing is so true. Personally, I wish we were like cartoons and could just have an outfit that is for us individually and thats what you wear. • @fovarberma752

      I literally buy pants and shirts in bulk. 5 times the same pair of pants (usually black jeans), 5 times the same shirt (sometimes color varies, but mostly hot colors like purple and darker reds, by popular demand), same with socks, underwear... and a couple of suit jackets / ties that match. Simple, easy, interchangeable (except for the ties), vetted by someone with a better S(e). So my wardrobe is basically Bug Bunny's. And I avoid any clothes with a drawing on it (like a t-shirt gifted to me of Rick and Morty) unless it is for manual work and I don't want to damage my nicer clothes, or I won't meet anyone but close friends.
      People often comment on how simple and straightforward my wardrobe is. And cheap.
      You might struggle more, being a woman do mean higher standards, but I'd try something similar. Neutral bottom (say black skirt and/or blue jeans), colored tops that are varied, conservative-ish, and all match the set of bottoms you have. Would fit 80%+ of all your clothing needs, just add some really pretty dress once a while to please your partner and you're done.

    "Saying something is better than not saying anything and doing nothing."

    Chase, to your last point about the door-matting. I have been working at planting seeds of selfishness in my INTP brother's mind for the last 3 years. Last year was a big success getting him to leave a super exploitative relationship with a girl whom he was basically being a backup/teddybear for for FIVE years. Would not have sex with him or even kiss him, vent or have any opinions. Would hang out with his male friends making him uncomfortable, yet would get super paranoid about his interactions with females. UGH. It was hard to get him to let go, especially since I wasn't geographically close.
    My parents constantly exploit his generosity by "asking" him to do work around their house. They just assume he will do it, and unfortunately, they're right. It really bugs me because they manage him like a resource.
    They are both Si hero IMO - do you have any advice about how to make them understand the wrongness of using him like this? I imagine they look at it like it's his duty.
    This week we had a long talk about how you have to set boundaries and communicate when you don't want to be in a social situation with someone. We all were raised to have the same problem of putting on a smiling face and accepting what others want while screaming internally because we want to do something else. I love how mold-able he is in the sense that provided my explanations make logical sense, he will have those "aha" moments with no ego about it. Today I saw him post the single word 'No' on facebook. Don't know what it's about, but I feel good about it. His process is slow (I think due to Si child), but steady.

    I know someone that is an INTP and complete strangers tell this person very personal stories, but INTP are good listeners, so I guess they don't react to what details are being said. They also listen in social situations and have the dirt on everyone that they can use later and have everyone analyzed perfectly. Also it is all about the planning and not the execution, so I had to laugh at the table-cleaning analogy. I quite innocently asked if she thought about not having kids due to the genetic problems she was having. I guess she took offense and told others I'm not nice. I wasn't telling her to not have kids, but was wondering if she had looked into or considered the risk of having kids due to the track record. I just wanted to know. It didn't bother me too much that she was offended because I thought that she just misinterpreted my question. Last year my wife and I were at a pancake place and she got pancakes with no syrup. She ate her pancakes saying they were fine without it because they were sweet enough. When the waitress asked how things were I said something like, I wonder what the pancakes would have tasted like with syrup? She was like, so sorry for not bringing syrup and stuff. My wife thought I was mean and refused the syrup. I'm like, I'm just wondering if they would have been better or different with it, but the waitress interpreted it as, you forgot my wife's syrup and I'm angry with your service. Idk, I don't interpret my words or hint, it can make me look like a jerk or inept or clueless in social gatherings. Funny story though

    Where to start...yeah, I got stuck there for a moment. Some of my "Quirks" growing up (and sometimes still):
    When I was a kid, my parents thought I was retarded because I would continually drop things and run into wall/doorways ( I still do these things as well as get cuts and scratches and not know where, why or when it happened). Also, because I would finally chime in on a conversation after mulling it over in my head, but everyone else was now 2-3 conversations beyond that one.
    My parents also had many "heart to hearts" with me about being empathetic with other people and taking their feelings into consideration. I thought I was by explaining what they could have done differently/explaining why it happened. I remember one time I got in a fight with my cousin who ran off and told my mother I hit him. When she asked me why, I told her he hit me first. My mother then said I needed to follow the golden rule of treating people the way I wanted to be treated, which I answered that was what I was doing. I was fulfilling his desire to get hit since he hit me first.
    When I got a little older, my older sister (an ENTJ) went into my closet and created a number system for me to know what will match with what. Then my older brother (an ENTP) decided to conduct an experiment: he was going to switch up the numbers and see if I would still follow the system...Which, of course, I did - he would continue to be a thorn in my side until he moved out. My sister would later proof read my essays and other schoolwork and help me translate what I was trying to say so others (namely the teachers) would understand.
    I'd say that's enough for now.

    Coming into the knowledge that I'm an intp (in the past few years) definitely put many things in the proper perspective. I remember in grade school when a girl that apparently wanted more of my attention pouted to her friends on the bus (within earshot of me): "Of course Tomi's not going to apologize - you all know how he is; he doesn't care about anything."
    I can't recall what I was supposed to be apologizing about, but I do recall being aghast. Like, do people really think I don't care about things lol?? Just because I'm aloof and reserved doesn't mean I don't have feelings. I remember thinking - "I'm human just like y'all; I have feelings and so of course I _care_ ...just not that much." I have questioned the idea that INTPs have no moral behavior for exactly the example you brought up; that I go out of my way not to care what people think about something politically incorrect if I morally feel the need to address the elephant in the room. I see that pressure to conform that my Fe feels as a moral problem and try to err on the side of saying it to fight allowing a sense of timidity to grow. I have noticed that my conservative approach to faith which I thought stemmed primarily from morals is in fact pragmatic as since I see the Bible as accurate then the logical thing is to follow its wisdom. This is a problem at times as I have to be on guard against legalism.

But anyway, I didn't say I believed it was karma. Any reasonable person knows that the baby gets its nutrients from the mother's diet. Is it time for "he shouldn't have been so cruel to her", and "She should've thought of her baby when he would say that" ? Maybe, but what's done is done. Lesson: don't marry shitheads; take your vitamins, and if you're an INTP, remember that other people may not be thinking in terms of logic, and would find you to be "cold," like Mr. Spock on Star Trek.

    I went to a pretty small school in Arkansas, just to give some background on the types of people I dealt with. Continuing... in 3rd grade we were doing math problems. I can’t remember the exact type of problem but that’s besides the point. I had developed my own method to solve any problem my teacher could throw at me. She was baffled by this and took me to show two other teachers of different classes in the small hallway conjoining the classrooms. They put down a piece of paper on a desk and wrote a problem, then told me to solve it. I solved it without writing anything using my rational and there immediate reaction was to tell me I was stupid for trying to make new ways to do math, and to just stick to what your taught. They didn’t say it in a polite manner either it was like they were yelling at me. This upset me deeply and I ran into the bathroom crying. From that day forward I had no interest in what a school had to teach me. I went from being regarded as the smartest kid in my grade to an eventual dropout. My grades in school slowly declined from 3rd grade all the way to 12th grade when I dropped out. It wasn’t that I was incapable to do good in school, but as time went on I had more and more similar experiences with teachers. My disdain for the system grew more and more. I even tried to get the freedom from religion foundation to file a lawsuit against them, to no avail. Guess you could say it’s a quirk.....

  • @MrTrashcan1
    @MrTrashcan1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, your theory about the glasses is correct. The more one reads books, the more one is likely to need glasses, and the more likely it is that his eyes will continue to worsen. The stress on the lens is unnatural and causes the eyeball to elongate which continues to distort the focal distance. Optometrists and ophthalmologists will tell you otherwise, which is all you need to know that it's true. If you think about it, prehistoric humans likely had perfect vision--you needed your eyes to hunt not to focus on things close up.

    1. Poor eyesight: I read about a study where kids who spent more time outdoors (or maybe it was just UV light?) were less likely to be short-sighted and need glasses. It does make sense because if we're indoors dreaming, thinking, creating, our eyes won't develop distance vision so well because the body doesn't need it.
    2. I'm the last to know a lot of things. At work, I find myself being nosy just so I'm aware of what's going on. So, sometimes I'm one of the few people who does know something, but I think it's more of an issues with having introverted leadership than anything else.

    I'm intp andI am very myopic, always have been, but didn't know it till I was 12 years old. I'm aware of a correlation between myopia and IQ. Most seem to suspect that there must be some sort of genetic link or as you said that reading might contribute to degradation of sight but I suspect my experience as a child, not being able to see the world more than three or four meters from me clearly, contributed to my having both a high IQ and developing into an intp.
    To find my way around I had to map things in my head, not being able to rely on seeing distant landmarks , I would rely on memory and location specific details more than a normal person perhaps would.
    If I was seated at the back of the class, I couldn't read the blackboard so would have to work out formula etc on my own quite often. You see where I'm going?
    Just a theory that might be worth pondering.

    Honestly the first post as an INTP makes me cringe a little. Anyone with a central nervous system knows that you probably shouldn't ask "what malformation your baby have"? or other insensitive comment concerning tragedies. However I would agree that my hunger for information about insignificant details is insatiable. I'll ask for details about what someone eats for breakfast; eggs? How are they cooked? Olive oil or butter? On bread? Whole wheat or plain? Do you eat your croissant first, then drink your coffee, or do you dip your croissant into your coffee and then eat it? I want every little detail so I'm 100 percent confident I understand.

      I'm an INTP who spent the majority of growing up in a rural area and always in the woods for hours. I also played running back and linebacker. I did not grow up indoors with computers and had 40/20 vision (could read from 40 feet what 20/20 vision could read from 20 feet). When they gave me a professional IQ test at 8 years old, my spacial awareness was beyond what any of the researchers had ever seen. I could trek through the woods on rough terrain quickly, analyze moving spacial complexities like a machine and react playing football, or when do technical driving such as driving on off-road terrain, avoiding wrecks, or on exceptionally long rural drives... but to be that way, I have to be "in the zone". Thinking is turned off for awhile and it pure attention and reaction. Everything is pure instinct and time slows down to me to the point it's barely moving at all. I was able to maneuver my truck while doing 3 - "360's" in the drizzle across one side of an interstate, through the median, and across the interstate going the other direction without hitting anybody and continue driving the other way to the last exit. When thrown into those types of situations... there is the opposite of fear, there is an immense calmness to where you barely breath and your pulse is super-low. Time stands still and you calmly maneuver the gas, brakes, and wheel in precise small increments calmly as if you were almost meditating. There is a heightened sense of awareness in complicated, dangerous or potentially lethal circumstances to where you perform like an android. Then when you're at peace with time to think... you run into tables, drop everything,, and don't even remember where you are or what day it is (possibly even while mentally analyzing and thinking deeply about your experience of one of those, now past, events). I have unbelievably great spacial awareness once I'm "in the zone", as an athlete would say... but when I'm not paying attention, I met as well not even know what planet I'm on and accidentally knock everything off my desk, trying to pick up the first thing I knocked off my desk.

      @@antonboldsword3770 Have you found ways to manipulate yourself into a flow state?
      I was an athletic INTP, as well. Didn't have a choice due to being on the taller side most of life (6'4). I always found that I performed best when I was in a flow state and when I wasn't it was like watching a deer in headlights. Training/consistency provided more confidence in actions/moves/games, but it paled in comparison to any activity that I performed under a flow state. I've been trying to figure out how to hack that state of mind and utilize it to learn and perform other task and it's been hard to develop a concoction. Whether it be using cold showers, lifting weights, meditation or small doses of marijuana I've been consistently trying to figure out how to get myself in that focused instinctive state.

    Thought this was an interesting video. Recovering drug addict INTP here with M.Ed. In Rehabilitation Counseling (coming to find the counseling part is not my strongest suite, so more focused Ph.D or Psy.D here I come). My DOC (Drug of choice) has always been geared to the serotonin based group (opiates). I have never had any desire for hallucinogenics, which makes sense cause, brain control freak I do be (haha doobie, get it). Also not much of a fan of the dopaminergic focused rewarding centers either (cocaine, methamphetamines). So I was wondering if there was a source for the claim that INTPs are dopamine chasers in regards to drugs? Or were you more speaking of a rewards center high on life type of preference. I normally wouldn’t provide that “out” in regards to possible meaning, but I think I’ve had a tendency to be a little hard on you here on your channel in the past...
