Was called a "mini Vin Diesel" (I have a similar olive kinda tanned skin colour and dark eyes, but I am only about 169-171 cm tall or so) by a couple Japanese girls in a sushi bar who sat next to me during one of my long trips there lol
Just this week a 5 year old girl asked me "why don't you have hair!?". I told her my hair decided to leave me. She was a bit confused but laughed...and btw, I've known this neighbor girl for over one year but just now she asked. Then the next day I passed some kids playing soccer in a school yard and while I drove past they started yelling at me. Their soccer ball was kicked over the school fence and they hoped I could retrieve the ball for them. I stopped the car, threw the ball to them and one of them yelled..."cool haircut!"... I'm so used to shaving my head since my hair began to thin. I don't ever think about it till asked. Not sure if it is confidence or just accepting reality.
I'm a bald, white, American guy living in Japan who is currently wearing a hair system. I also often got the "You look like Jason Statham" comments or "かっこいい" comments as well. But frankly, I hate my appearance as a bald person and I definitely feel like it hurt my dating prospects here. I still dated as a bald guy, but since I started wearing a hair system, my matches and messages on dating apps and language exchange apps, and meetings improved. Not to say that I'm meeting women all the time or something (since I just turned 41, so the dating pool isn't so great and meeting younger women is much more difficult), but I still have had more success with "hair" than without. It's definitely a pain in the ass to wear hair systems, especially in the beginning when you get them new and hair to trim all the excess material off of them to fit the bald area of your head, and attaching it (with tape, glue, or both), but once it's cut and ready to wear, just having to remove it once every 2 weeks give or take and clean it and reattach it, it's not too bad, usually. Of course I wish I just had hair like when I was younger, but this at least gives me an option to have hair and have a second chance at life. Even people that I've known since when I was bald have said that they forgot that I was bald and got used to me with hair, or when I told people about it being fake, they had no idea and didn't care that it was fake, so it's definitely something to consider.
Great interviews! Something missing is that ‘hage’ (baldy) is one of the many Japanese words for ‘idiot’! I have always wanted to get so riled up in a Japanese argument that I call my fully-haired opponent bald. 聞けよハゲ! See also, many jokes about ‘barcode’ (combover) hairstyles.
It's all about being comfortable in your own skin. Confidence is key but if someone says something, just rebut about some about their teeth. Then they'll understand. That's the only response from a society that puts so much emphasis on appearance.
I'm an American who was balding and it gets to a point where you just have to let it go. You will likely look better bald than with sections of hair. hit the gym too. You'll look awesome
Sometimes I miss having hair. But then again I don't have to style my hair, pay for haircuts, dry my hair, and it's cooler in the summer. Also samurai used to shave their heads. Yep. Those are my excuses.
What is the dating experience like as a bald man? I'm Irish, 22 with a receding hairline and long thinning hair, planning to move to Japan next year. But I fear my chances at love will be compromised in Japan compared to at home.
Shouldn’t be a problem! Japanese people think a foreign bald guy (with a shaved head, not a combover or anything) is cool, because it’s emblematic of foreigner culture. They think bald Japanese are not cool because they see it as a sign of poor health, but Japanese will see a foreign guy and see it as a cool fashion choice. Why do they have that standard? I’m not sure lol Also, I’ve seen many international couples where the foreign guy is bald. I’m sure you can find the right person. Best of luck!
People have always dealt with different as making them feel slightly uncomfortable so they tend to make fun of it in response. It wouldn't matter if everyone were bald, people wound look for another thing that stood out. Less than 1% could care less.
I didn't know it was so bad, I just shave mine bald cause it's too hot. But those clippers you got do the whole thing? Mine leavevway to much hair and I need to use a razor for an hour at least. Do your clippers make you bald. Mine only cut me down to 5 days growth or so.
These ones cut down to about a 2 day growth which is alright, but I have this other electric shaver which finishes the job. It has six circular blades and kind of looks like a flower if that’s makes sense. You can find it on Amazon lol
Yes, they like to make fun of baldness. And expect people with baldness should accept it and respond it in a humorous way like in some standup comedy. Body shaming is pretty common there. By the way, i have early baldness. When i lived there, i was even laughed while commuting on the train
Hey guy! How is baldness viewed in your country? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for watching.
Did you manage to find japanese girlfriends ? That's a pretty straight answer
Very nice! As a bald American living in Japan, I was a little self conscious about it but seeing your video made me feel better. Thanks!
Thank you!

Thanks man! Means a lot 🙏

As a bald idiot, this name suits me!
The barcode diss is pretty funny too. Thanks Harry :)
Thank you SO much for making this video! Definitely not something I’ve heard enough about, and I learned a lot!
I’m glad you could learn a lot! Thanks for watching!!
This was a fun video! And I would just like to say that you look really similar to Broden Kelly from Aunty Donna
I don’t know who that is 😂
Thanks for watching

You don't often hear "Lucky" and "Bald" in the same sentence. 😉
😉
In many ways it’s lucky for me, considering how much I’ve saved on haircuts in the past 5 years. Thanks for watching!
I’m a teacher in Japan and I’m balding bad 😂 I need to buzz my dome but I don’t have the guts!

Seems about on par with my experience! If you're ever in Osaka let me know! There's a bald restaurant we can try together!
Haha sounds fun
TH-cam algorithm might be onto me a little too much...
I thought the same 🤣🤣

Bald and bearded is cool. At least that's what I see in myself in the mirror 😎

Lets be bald together! I love Japanese peoples though 😊, they're the coolest.
I agree! I have never been treated poorly for being bald, and repeatedly get told I look like Jason Statham
What happen if u tell them I join buddhist monk
You’d probably get a basic “sugoi” and a hand clap, and then they would immediately forget about it lol
So it's not bald n bankrupt
Not bankrupt yet… 👨🏻🦲
Funny, my name is Lucky and I am bald.
Jason Statham is pretty cool
