Thanks for posting the entire interview. The edited 7 minute version cuts him off several times and makes it seem like he’s scatter brained and strays off topic and doesn’t even make sense sometimes, which is an inaccurate portrayal of Ryan. Dude is not only a stunningly brilliant player, but incredibly intelligent and pretty humble as well, which is always pleasant to see in your favorite artists. Much respect to him
I come here all the time to listen to the solos, so I'm going to time stamp them for anyone else interested: First: 0:13 Second: 5:13 Third: 9:31 Fourth: 15:55 Fifth: 28:34
Thank you Framus and Warwick for putting this up. Ryan is my favorite among all the bass guitarist in the world. This has been very inspiring to me. Favorited it!
What a delight! Thank you so much for this video! Both Ryan and Andy Irvine are the reasons I bought a Thumb bass. I have a Pro Series 5 string and it is the best bass I have ever played. Such great tonal options and very comfortable to play, on top of being the best looking bass out there!
I have always and will always love Ryan's style. My favorite riff of his is from "Severed" on Mudvayne's album LD 50 album. It starts around the 4 minute and 4 second mark and goes to about the 5 minute and 8 second mark. GOOD STUFF!!
When he's talking about "changing the radius", does he mean the profile of the neck? I thought the radius was always 26", but the profile of newer Thumbs changed to extra slim. Also, can the whole refurbishing be ordered by a regular Warwick player, and not an endorser?
I used to listen to Mudvayne when I was a kid and never understood that Ryan was the core of their unique, attractive sound. I never played any instruments until I was already an adult and came to realize what a killer artist this guy is. Amazing S***
Mine are James Jamerson Ryan Martinie Trevor Dunn Jonas Hellborg Bill Gould but Flea did play on Deloused in the Comatorium which was miles away from anything he did in Red Hot Chili Peppers
Such an underrated and overlooked bassist. i cannot believe that he left Warwick for Fodera... I'm not really a fan of the the new tone.. I recently acquired a Warwick Thumb NT, and it is great and sounds great. Been chasing 1 for a long time and was lucky to score it for a great price.
anyone know the name of the trio he is playing with? didn't watch the whole thing yet. about 10 min left. but love to see him in a different genre from mudvayne and I LOVE MUDVAYNE
It's D standard with the low D tuned to a C, and the lower string on a 5 tuned to G. As sabreon said, GCGCF. Lets him cover two octaves by open strings alone.
Great interview and loving Ryan's attitude and playing but I do have to disagree on neck dive being a first world problem. If you pay several thousands for an instrument, it should be perfect/exactly what you want. Not trying to hate, not trying to say you shouldn't get it, just saying that I, myself, prefer to play in the classical position and neck dive is a huge pain for me, so that is an important factor. Again, just for myself.
+Tobias Ommer They are a little neck heavy but from experience having owned 5 Warwicks in the past (2 of which were thumb basses). Nothing sounds like a Thumb bass. I found that when playing live I didn't have an issue with the neck because I generally have the strap relatively high up. If I wasn't for me having back and money problems I would still own that bass...infact I'm half tempted to buy it back just now if I'm honest! I don't play classical position as it's just uncomfortable for me but if I'm playing a gig I'm not sitting down anyway so it's irrelevant to me.
I totally get that. Well, everyone needs to find what is right for them. For some, some aspects matter, for others, it's other aspects. Which brings me back to my point, though. Instruments of this caliber are extremely expensive, which is why there are no such things as first world problems here. It should be perfect for you. Whatever that may mean, in the end.
my bubinga corvette standard doesnt neck dive! especially since i got a wide padded strap, I definitely need it at 11.2lbs lmao, but ive never played anything like it, notes ring out really well thru the whole range, and with a bit of compression practically forever, put the gibson i had to shame
Ryan is such an amazing bass player I wish mudvayne would get back together. People need to support artists and go out and buy the CDs downloading can be good but artists need to be paid back for the work they put out to keep making music.
Criminally underrated bassist
Very much so
Love Ryan's individual style of playing the bass.. And the guy is so humble too.. Absolute legend.
He has one of the most unique playing styles I ever seen.
Absolute legend
He just seems like the nicest guy ever.
This interview really turned out great! A wonderful memory and for sure an honor to have been a part of it.
Thank you for conducting it! You and Ryan are the reason I bought a Warwick Thumb!
Andy Irvine ii
I'm on my third thumb bass. Started with the bo5 then the NT5, and now playing an NT6. Ryan should def get a lot of credit for thumb bass sales.
Pretty cool ... intelligent well learned guy ...real unique style...great example of developing yuor own sound and style
Wish there were more videos of Ryan on TH-cam. His playing is a joy to watch -- incredibly tight and very advanced, but always musical and tasty.
We got more interviews and performances of him right on our channel. Just use the search tool directly on our channel and type "Ryan Martinie".

Man, I could listen to him play for hours and hours.
hes so damn humble...unbelievable
i love the groove Ryan makes.
Man his style is off the hook. That tapping is insane!
A superb musician. Him and Mark Tremonti, are two of the most humble people I've had the pleasure of listening to. Thank you for this.
I come here all the time to listen to the solos, so I'm going to time stamp them for anyone else interested:
First: 0:13
Second: 5:13
Third: 9:31
Fourth: 15:55
Fifth: 28:34
I love the fourth one.. is it in an actual song somewhere?
@@tiffy3260 I wish, unfortunately not that I know. Maybe he snuck it into some of their new STG songs, haven't checked them out yet.
Thank you Framus and Warwick for putting this up. Ryan is my favorite among all the bass guitarist in the world. This has been very inspiring to me. Favorited it!
my idol to play like badass bassist, awesome eva!!!!
What a delight! Thank you so much for this video! Both Ryan and Andy Irvine are the reasons I bought a Thumb bass. I have a Pro Series 5 string and it is the best bass I have ever played. Such great tonal options and very comfortable to play, on top of being the best looking bass out there!
the camera man is probably right that martinie has "sold" most thumb basses for the company. even i bought my thumb because ryan :D
This guy man... Respect!
FINALLY!!! Thank you for uploading!
does this guy ever age? :)
m1ryana idk but he is born two years before my moms boyfriend was born xd
Hes 84 here. Lol.
Ryan was pretty young when Mudvayne first put out LD 50. Dude definitely doesn't seem like he is damn near 50
I have always and will always love Ryan's style. My favorite riff of his is from "Severed" on Mudvayne's album LD 50 album. It starts around the 4 minute and 4 second mark and goes to about the 5 minute and 8 second mark. GOOD STUFF!!
i relate to this man so hard. what an honest musician.
such a nice guy and what a musician.....the trio are called "Soften the glare "
Inspirational.
That was a brilliant talk. Some really great tools to help approach ideas and life in general.
That finger style... sooo good.
It's flamenco style and Jaco made it famous. Jaco is Ryan's main influence growing up.
Awesome, hugely talented, open-minded musician. Great stuff, thanks!
Thank you so much for making this video with such a first class guest 👍🏼
When he's talking about "changing the radius", does he mean the profile of the neck? I thought the radius was always 26", but the profile of newer Thumbs changed to extra slim. Also, can the whole refurbishing be ordered by a regular Warwick player, and not an endorser?
You can order a bass from Warwick exactly how you want it. Just expect the price to be high.
so heart touching
Bass God.
Really good interview. I dig his insights
What an absolute legend.
I never realized he closes this out with the album closer of soften the glare!! So cool!!!
He is the best metal bass player of all time and top 5 best to ever live.
Omg
ZERO THUMBS DOWN
I think this video is a first for TH-cam...
ha! i think unfortunately somebody saw that and have now given it a thumbs down.
Só fam deste cara
just love this guy
He is the guy that inspired me to play warwick. Even though its a Corvette, i fall in love with it everyday
off the record..I'm on my 2ND WARWICK thanks to Mr RYAN MARTINI ...thumb nt for life!!!!
Oh, man!
Love you Ryan you’re the best your bass playing is nasty!
"Let's go back to bassics, no pun intended" nice lol
I used to listen to Mudvayne when I was a kid and never understood that Ryan was the core of their unique, attractive sound. I never played any instruments until I was already an adult and came to realize what a killer artist this guy is. Amazing S***
Best bass player alive! I knew he is an alien
He would sound great with Steve Vai.
Vai already have a killer bassist.
@@KingAlpaca Ryan's got both the talent and flare.
He has always played the most badass looking bass's.
Ryan is definitely the reason I bought a thumb nt 5!!!
My top 5 bass players:
Ryan Martinie
Jason Newsted
Tim Commerford
Rex Brown
Flea
I second that.
Mine are
James Jamerson
Ryan Martinie
Trevor Dunn
Jonas Hellborg
Bill Gould
but Flea did play on Deloused in the Comatorium which was miles away from anything he did in Red Hot Chili Peppers
I could add Sly Stone, Robert Wilson and Bootsy to that list as well
So cool
One of the best bassist on modern metal lml
I would love to see Ryan & Jim Root do a project together
I'm not the greatest bass player. I think that's the one thing you're wrong about Ryan 😂
He's so nice!
BRBR DENG!
BRBR DENG!
BRBR DENG!
BRBR DENG!
His bass playing style is very much reminiscent of John Entwistle.
A best!!

I recently acquired a Warwick Thumb NT, and it is great and sounds great. Been chasing 1 for a long time and was lucky to score it for a great price.
i remembered that his first thumb nt which i thought he played the most was a 1999 warwick thumb nt? that he had in that fuss in the bus 1 video?
can you make, a vlog about students of bass camp?
640 likes to 1 dislike ratio just goes to show how godly this man is
anyone know the name of the trio he is playing with? didn't watch the whole thing yet. about 10 min left. but love to see him in a different genre from mudvayne and I LOVE MUDVAYNE
+Robert Turner the link is in the description! :) best regards, Michael.
+Framus & Warwick awesome thank you
Soften The Glare. cheers !
Ryan is amazing. His intro jam is very Michael Manring-ish.
What's the song at the beginning of the video when the Warwick intro screen is playing
15:56 to 17:01 god damn🔥🔥 that's beautiful ❤️❤️
Ryan Martinie and Nick Schendzielos are the best bass players in the entire world.
He mentioned the weird tuning he plays in but not what it actually is.
Anyone know what he's tuned to? Sounds pretty fun.
It's GCGCF, if you're still looking
Sabreon oh cool thank you.
It's D standard with the low D tuned to a C, and the lower string on a 5 tuned to G. As sabreon said, GCGCF. Lets him cover two octaves by open strings alone.
Hands down phenomenal. This dudes up there with claypool. Maybe even a tad better
"I'm not the world's greatest bass player."
- HELL No, Ryan! You are one of the world's greatest!
What is the name of this song? 28:32
It's him just jamming
Dairy Air - Soften the Glare
Is he using a NT or BO in this?

Sounds like Remco!
how much is a thumb bass?
cheapest is around $2500 i think
Thanks
If you’re in the U.K. The can cost £1500.

They are.
20 minutes in, what's this weird tuning he mentions in the beginning? Does he ever say? I need to know these things.
GCGCF at this time but old school Mudvayne was in B

Who could dislike such a humble, talented and honest person, true inspiration 👏 🙌
Who are these mystics that are supposedly better then ryan Martinie on bass? I have not found these beings.
