    15 years and 130,000 miles later, is a 2008 Dodge Charger RT still a reliable car in 2022 / 2023? In my experience, it has been a decently reliable car, but everyone has different experiences. I have definitely heard some horror stories on these cars, especially the 2006 Charger.

    Fun fact for anyone trying to keep their charger on the road is all suspension designed for the newer cars will fit so long as you replace the front lower rearward control arm (the one where the shock bolts onto) with one designed for the 2011+ models.
    In my opinion this opens a whole door of possibilities when it comes to maintaining your early model LX platform cars.

    the real answer to this question is it depends on the owner, you probably bought it from an old guy in his 40-60's who didn't drive it hard and actually maintained it...looks like you do the same, but most owners have not been kind to these cars....it really just depends on the owner and service record.

    I bought a 2005 Magnum RT new in late 07 with lifetime powertrain warranty, have changed oil every 5,000mi. since, There were a few minor warranty repairs . Only time the 5.7 engine was apart was for new timing chain at 200,00 mi. just for peace of mind - also did oil pump at same time. Its now at 246,00 runs like new and uses no oil. I did not baby it ! It has been by far the best car i ever had.

    I recently bought a 09 charger r/t wit 125000 miles. It runs strong and smooth, and those downshifts are so addicting lol. In anyone’s opinion if I maintain this vehicle well will it still last me for a good minute? And if so yea, is it worth procharging, modifying it.

    I bought my 2008 dodge charger 3.5 liter in 2011 with 48k miles it has 153k as of writing this and still driving it. I've replaced 3 batteries, the brakes once, the tires twice and regular 3k mile oil changes, and thats all I've done for maintence on it or have done nothing major on it. CD player won't eject CD's any more, and somthing on the instrument panel is always saying somthing about the gas cap. AC has been broke for awhile and check amber engine light has been on for the last 50k miles, code reader thing says its nothing major. Did have problems with the lug nuts expanding and replaced them once plus the valve stems getting brittle and breaking off but just replaced once on each wheel. No oil, coolant or transmission leaks, and it doesn't burn any oil. I've never driven it hard either so believe those are a few things I've gotten some longevity out of it. Still runs/sounds and drives pretty smooth, plan on keeping it till it explodes. Smoked in it so the inside is a little stale, but an occasional detailing of the upholstery and its as good as new.

    My 06 RT R&T has 194,162 miles and still runs great I daily drive it. Only issues I have is a very slow coolant leak and power steering fluid leak I'm still trying to figure out. When I first got it I had to replace both fuel pumps, thermostat, temp sensor and coolant cap. Other than that just basic maintenance. The entire front end was replaced 6-7 years ago by the previous owner. And I'm sure there were many other parts replaced by the previous owners. But to my knowledge it's never had any Major issues.

      @zacharygalliher609 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chowcago the previous owner bought it at 160k and the front suspension was shot. If you order a kit and do it yourself I think it would cost around $500-$900 depending on brand and quality + cost of alignment. Mine is completely rust free. But has been in a few wrecks with batched paint jobs.

    Pre-Eagle 5.7 hemis are all fun and games until you drop a valve seat. Ask me how I know....
    So if you want one of these, better get one cheap, or with low miles, take good care of it, put a 180 degree thermostat in it, and don't ever let it overheat. Otherwise get prepared for either the junkyard, or a big project. MDS likes to cause uneven cylinder head temperatures and poor interference fit of the valve seats will eventually ruin your day.
    I fixed this issue with 2009+ Eagle heads, which bolt on, but raise compression and you'll need to run 93 or E85 all the time.... and a good tune.

    • @Kenoyer
      @Kenoyer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Easy way to disable the MDS is to just drive it in manuel shift mode.
      Keeps the heat distribution nice and even so you don't have seats unevenly cooling/heating and falling off.

    • @JohnTaylor-bd1uy
      @JohnTaylor-bd1uy หลายเดือนก่อน

      As long as you replace all of the cooling components, hoses, flush the coolant every few years, and don't hammer it all the time, then you'll be fine! The abused ones drop valve seat I notice, and the well maintained ones don't!

      I've done alot of maintenance to this car, I probably should change PCM.
      My known issues -
      * Shifter will pop fuse, leaving the car in limp mode showing PRNDL8. I think the shifter assembly needs to be replaced. Happens once in a while.
      * Would shut off after filling up, thankfully there is a factory recall on gas tank. Which the dealer did not know, until I called Mopar customer service. That's all fixed now.
      * Right now when I stop at an intersection, sometimes the car has a weird idle. Like it wants to stall.
