    What a refreshing change to see a journalist prepared to ask difficult questions. The Irish media always treated him with deference. Tribunals achieved nothing; no culpability...no consequences.
    You could see Bertie squirming uncomfortably in his seat.

    One year I think he`s expenses included 250,000 euro on make up. He was going steady with a make up artist at the time, pity he didn`t ask her for tips on cutting his make up bill. Bertie started his tenure as the great negotiator and ended it as the man who couldn`t say no. How did that happen?

    Can someone please explain to me why British journalists and presenters don't ask these sort of tough no-holds-barred questions of British politicians over Brexit? All credit here, you could really see Bertie sweet but if there are any good interviews where members of the Brexit Leavers campaign, or the Remainers, get it as good, I would really appreciate being pointed in that direction.

    Irish stance on Brexit in a nutshell, is Britain can do what it wants, but not to Irelands disadvantage. Makes perfect sense. Very hostile interview. Is that this guys standard approach?

    First of all this interview was to be about the british leaving the EU, Not a personal interview about what Bertie has done , I find the interviewer very one sided he's blaming the irish government for the problem they have over the border , He made refrence to school's in the north of Ireland and again thats upto the northern assembley to do something about and not the Irish government ,Tim Sebastion a londoner seem to be out to get Bertie and he did not like the answers so the personal questions started , And i am not a Bertie supporter and never was but im irish and think this was a one sided interview ,

    Bertie did quite well against this ridiculously aggressive interviewer. There were indeed a few unhelpful comments about a United Ireland from the Irish government early on in the Brexit process, but thankfully they've since stopped entirely. There are still frequent comment from Sinn Fein, but you can't really control anything those eejits say. At the end of the day, the only way to prevent a land border in Northern Ireland and prevent a border in the Irish Sea is for the entire UK to remain in the Customs Union and Single Market; although I personally think only the Single Market would probably be just about workable too. The EU proposal that Northern Ireland remain in the Customs Union and Single Market is ridiculous, but it's the least ridiculous option if Britain insists on its red lines. Britain's current approach to Brexit of a Free Trade Arrangement is simply a veiled attempt to recreate the Single Market, without the parts Britain doesn't like such as freedom of movement.

    • @johnsrhorgan
      @johnsrhorgan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doubt the UK will actually crash out of the EU. I think the House of Commons and Lords would instead ask the EU27 to extend the Article 50 period to avoid a crisis. I do agree that whatever deal Theresa May cooks-up, I struggle to see parliament approving it. The Conservative Brexiteers, Conservative Remainers, and DUP are desperate not to bring down the government, but I just can't see them all approving it. May has kicked the can down the road whenever she's hits an issue, so my guess is the UK will extend Article 50, and keep the madness rolling a little longer. I'd personally like to see the EU27 offer the UK membership of the SM with some concessions on freedom of movement to make it more attractive. Do migrants really need access to social welfare benefits, if they haven't lived and worked in the UK for say 5 years?
