    When a player is injured during a long rally, the referee commonly stops the rally and plays the point again. You can allege that Conte was pretending to be injured, which could well be true, but the reason why the American team did not qualify is because they did not play well enough to earn their spot in the next phase and probably they thought they would qualify in the end, which did not happen. A very similar turn of events happened to the Chinese team in the womens tournament. You can never count yourself in without fighting and committing to every win along the way.

    In this Pool everything could happen. Argentina was the real underdog, their game is constantly improved but every match they showed something more: heart and desire, they never gave up like gladiators and they were ready to face a hell of a battle against USA until the last point. American team has very good players but they lost too many points during the entire pool and they did a lot of mistakes yesterday. France had a crazy journey, as usual, honestly I was surprised by Russian team, they were good at VNL but not so impressive. Their tough game was decisive in the pool also for the second position of Brazil.

    In my opinion there were too many service errors, Shoji was off in the first set and a half but managed to get it together at the end with some amazing playing, and TJ was having an off game and kept swinging into the block.

      Theres always too many service errors in mens indoor volleyball...its laughable almost like coaches cant do basic math and strategically minimize this issue. To be honest you see it on the AVP as well. Guys who just shouldnt be jumpserving are doing it and way too often. Like a jump floater would be just as good and more reliable for most athletes...but hey its just a sport lol 😆

  • @john3114
    @john3114 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Service errors ate them up. I remember watching one game in the VNL where they gave up a whopping 25 errors. I get where John Speraw is coming from of serving aggressive to get the opponent out of system, but if you make so many errors it's going to cause more harm than good. I do see a future in TJ DeFalco and hopefully there would be new faces at the next olympics to make them stronger!

    I was trying to find a copy of Coach Speraw's pre game quote that I heard on the broadcast so as to not misquote, but no luck so far. But he was basically saying they don't see a lot of the float serve in their gym. We also hear a lot every summer about adjusting to the US system after playing overseas, so does the staff need to incorporate from there more? I almost felt like they tried to change the style of play in this game. Maybe it's just another function of COVID and not having the time together as well?
    And on a slightly related topic, there was some chatter last summer about the timing of the professional seasons and FIVB tournaments with star players opting out to avoid injury/less money. Any thoughts here? Money is a HUGE factor (LOL - some times I can't see player's numbers on pro teams with a ton of sponsors logos) so a shorter pro season is pretty much out of the question.
    oh geez...I thought Micah's reaction got me in the feels, but that photo of the Shojis on the bench...TT__TT Knowing this is most likely Kawika's last go-round with team; his leadership and some of the older players will be missed.

    • @CiMichel

    My heart breaks for USAMVT, it probably feels more devastating for them, but it isn't to discount Argentina's efforts. They (Argentina) played very well, they were obviously aggressive with blocks & attacks and it paid off for them, they deserved to win for sure. US kinda looked like they were being played and reactive to what Argentina was doing.
    Hopefully US can address their services cause just that alone killed whatever momentum they were building, and I've seen this even in the recent VNL. I will still support them, even the China WVT, but for now, I'm rooting for Japan Mens, ROC and Brazil. I hope they do well in the QF up until Finals, if ever they'd make it there.

    • @skarmazin
      @skarmazin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Serving to me was the downfall. They tried too hard...they wanted it so bad. USA opened pool play with a 3-0 win over France, the eventual gold medalist. Then they lost 3-1 to Russia, losing the last three sets by two points each time. And they missed a boatload of serves. The pass serve game is so important. Sometimes you can simply want something so badly.

One detail I did find is the Iranian players were making noises to disturb Japanese servers while Japanese team did not do the same against Iran team. • @danschronicles
    @danschronicles 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Speaking as a longtime fan of American volleyball teams, their match against Argentina was particularly lacking on two things for me: service and energy. When Argentina seemed to up their energy on their plays, the Americans somehow were second-guessing and were always on the back foot reacting. I missed the tenacity of Taylor Sander and of course the presence of Russell. He could have injected more varieties of plays for the Americans. Their service faults really killed them big-time. Because of that, they can’t somehow put pressure on Argentina’s defense more than them putting constant preasure on the Americans. Overall, they were just outgunned, outserved and Argentina just wanted it more.

    Funny how they have a longer preparation but servce error is the main problem. I don't see the determination and passion. Imagine how Tunisia won a set against them. I think its time for a new coach a new system. Jendrick should be in thay roster. They are missing Aaron. They start training Jake Hanes as a back up opposite to matt. In Mt opinion ensing is an average opposite. Kudos to Argentina coach and coaching staff they study the system of coach Speraw. Argentina played with passion

    Why would you think the USA is one of the best? Surely not American bias. LOL, many Americans think Matt Anderson is "the best". Open your eyes. Look at Poland, Brazil, ROC, for example. Do any of those teams have a coach that would start Defalco against those monsters? While leaving Ben Patch back home? 100% coaching ERROR to have that many team service errors, 100%. What is the easiest serve for your opponent? Yes genius, pretty simple math, when you serve the ball out. The USA needs some personnel changes, STARTING with speraw! Get him gone now, before he does to the USA National Volleyball team, what he's done to UCLA volleyball.
