- In this video I show you how to use Capture One Pro to whiten teeth to give them a natural whiteness that suits the photograph.

Very Super interesting Scott, learned two things at same time.
Thank you Waldir. I love it when people have learned something from my videos. That's why I make them 👍
On the clean up Scott just refine mask and it will snap to edges pretty good..
I sometimes try refine mask for this but although it generally does a good job, it doesn't always give me the results I require. It depends on the image. I do mention that I could probably use refine mask in the video.
I would love to see you do a tutorial on B&W editing in Capture One 12. Maybe you've already done one that I haven't found?
I haven't yet but I may do in the future,
Very helpful. Thank you.
You are very welcome. Thank you.
Yes - helpful!
I wondered if it's possible to select the mouth area - just a very rough mask - then pick a color within the teeth and use the mask-from-picked-color feature. Object: to get it done as quickly as possible and restrict the mask to the teeth _within_ the previously masked mouth area. But it sounds almost too good to be true. (I don't have Capture One set up again yet; recovering from a laptop crash...I will have to try the idea to see if it's useful or useless. :-)
Hi Mike. Good question. I have tried this and I had problems with isolating the teeth. There would be some reds/pinks on the teeth, so when I tried to isolate them the reds on the teeth would be lumped in with the gums that I wanted out of the mask. You could clean it up afterwards, but for me it became too fiddly on the images that I used. I'm sure it would be a great solution for some images. And you may find that it works great for you. But for my purposes, and for creating a tutorial I found it a bit too haphazard. I'm always looking for ways to speed up my workflow so I will keep on trying techniques.
I did wonder if that procedure would make isolating certain subtle colors more difficult.
The obvious solution for me is: don't be so lazy. That, and wring the bank account out like a sponge and buy a Wacom tablet, making it (of course) far easier to draw masks. I've always wondered though - how difficult is it to use a tablet in programs where _hovering_ the pointer is required.
I sometimes use my little Wacom Bamboo tablet with Capture One with no problems. I have never even thought about the hovering. But mostly I just use the mouse.
nice video.
Thank you very much.
Colud you please retouch a blacklighting pictire
You never know.
Why not just select the teeth by using the color range tool?
Hi Dennis. If you just used the colour range tool alone then you would also be selecting colours from the rest of the image. Then when you desaturated and recoloured you would effecting these other parts.
Hi Scott, this is really helpful. I have plenty of images I want to try this on. In terms of the (ideal?) colors of most people's teeth, would it be feasible to create a style out of the color balance window? I'm thinking of masking the teeth then applying the style with tooth coloring and readjusting the levels. Would that even work or do you think the differences depend on the image too much?
That could work. Give it a go and let me know how you get on.
