Wow! I love your slightly non-conventional (yet more natural) order of operations! And how you utilize all of the best techniques I've found! You must be a master of your craft!
Beautiful holster. I like how you show the layout process. I've done just enough rough leather work for my needs over the years to know it isn't anywhere near as easy as you make it look. Thanks for sharing this.
Amazing craftsmanship! I’ve got a Cimarron Dragoon replica, now all I need is a pommel holster, a saddle…oh yeah, and a horse. Or maybe my dog would carry it for me.
If I was twenty years old (not the twenty i was) again I would camp outside your home and beg you to make me your apprentice. Thank you for sharing. Pat
This is beautiful work, and I like the hammer shield. I even like *your carving, which I usually shun. If I were *living on the cavalry march, carrying 24/7, however, maybe I’d prefer the weather-coverage of an 1861 flap holster design--=> over the handle butt. (A sewn-closed toe always requires a weep-hole.) The center of gravity on most Colts is *just rear of the cylinder face when loaded --and since (most) flap designs were intended to allow a cross-draw *while SEATED-- the belt loop width and placement is crucial. Damn things HEAVY! Tho the CG on a dragoon is just slightly lower than any Army or Navy Colt, it’s LENGTH might seem to dictate a straight-vertical carry- (or an exaggerated rearward cross-draw).
Thank you for your time to make your wonderful video. I have always thought about how the beautiful art is created and now I at least have an idea. I don’t think I could afford to pay for beautiful holster but if I could I can not imagine how much I would have to pay to fill it. Thank you.
That’s waaay thicker material than CivilWar era tanning, tho I’m unaware of the difference. Though I’ve handled USArmy issue holsters that were (eventually) rather soft, they must have started-out stiff. When the local museum allowed me to clean their Remington 1858 Old Army (either issued to or carried by the manufacturers’ great-nephew), if only to stabilize it from surface rust using Ballistosol, the supplied holster was about what we’d call 9oz in leathers today. Though it was Army issue, the flap holster was in friable but stable condition, and, because it bore the print of a Colt Army, I expect it was not the original issued. Leather requires care.
Beautiful job , LOVE the detail you put into every piece of leather you make. Thanks for making it look easy which I know comes for doing . I aspire to be good and improve with each job . Just hope I can get proficient with confidence on my work too.
It smooths the leather after he wet it, so when he traced over his drawing it left and imprint better because of smooth surface, also got more surface moisture off. It's a good idea.
Your work is impeccable. Stunning would be apt. On a personal preference, I love well engraved firearms but not full coverage engraving. To me it pulls the eye away from the craftsmanship it took to create the gun in the first place. I get the same feeling about the holster you just created. That craftsmanship is just as important to me visually.
It's nice to see your work but it would help a lot if there were some words of explanation as to the reasons you did some of the things you did. But I guess not.
And to the guys that say nice work but i won't pay $100 $200 or soo for this I'll pay $5 for a Uncle Mike's pos. This is a sunday go to meeting or south Texas bbq rig and something your kid's & grandkids will fight over piece.

Looks great! I make a lot of holsters too. It's fun to see how others do it. Similar, but different.
Would really love to see more of your work.
Thank you so much! As a novice leatherworker your step by step video was very helpful

Amazing craftmanship Sir. Thumbs up video~John
He is making a work of Art. I wish I could still try to do that. I wish I could commission him to make one for me.
You are the best leather craftsman !!
Love the taped-over treatment of the trace:: I’m using *that tip!

Another work of art.
Beautiful Craftsmanship!!
Beautiful and thank you for the lesson.
Indescribable magnificence !!! Masterpiece 👍👍👍
Must of been a wealthy Frontiersman to afford this beautiful rig
One that has a cylinder cartridge conversion as well. You wouldn’t want to store a C&B revolver in a holster that won’t self clear powder debris.
Merci pour le partage, votre maîtrise du repoussage est impressionnant, je suis entrain d'apprendre..
Aum merci
Amazing work!
True master craftsman.
Congratulations..!!..U ARE A MAESTRO....THANK YOU.....
Nice job, but that is a very strange Dragoon with 2 piece grips?
A work of art.

Beautiful Holster, Cheers!
“ Oh my god !
It's Josey Wales ! ” .
“That’s a Colts dragoon. You ain’t no bigger than a corn nubbin!”
I just reread that wonderful book and I had to see what the gun looked like. Dang ol Texas brush-poppers
at about 1:56, what does the glass do exactly? beautiful job ,very inspiring for me to make one(to attempt to make one )

Now all I gotta do is learn to draw Filigree. LMAO.

How long does it take for a process like this?
Vous faites vraiment un beau travail, vous êtes d’où de France ?

Nice video too bad you can't talk.
Talking may just be over rated...
O y all that Victorian flower motif. Hideous. Yes, I know it's cor rect but plain is much more handsome. Really do you want flowers on anything else?
A work of art.
