Reviving ANTIQUE & VINTAGE Displays with Fresh Stock for COLLECTORS

  • It's a day-in-the-life video this time, as we make the 150-mile trek to our antique mall selling spaces throughout Washington State! Our goal is to pack all those great antique and vintage finds from garage sales, yard sales, thrift stores and estate sales into our favorite selling spots for our serious collectors and holiday travelers to find...
    Our first stop is the oldest antique mall in the Northwest, celebrating 40 years of selling in the heart of Snohomish! My vintage fashion partner is retiring, so we're having big sales here (40% off, not just for Black Friday sales but for the whole season!) Yet we're still putting in fresh, fun and valuable vintage, stuffing it with everything from Hull Pottery and Kings Crown glassware to Baccarat, Spode and much more.
    Down the road to Seattle we go, where our Epic Antiques spot has space to fill, thanks to having sold a $1700 bronze eagle! With a few hours work, it now showcases everything from a $400 Seguso glass vase and designer furniture to Seattle World's Fair memorabilia, African ceremonial masks, and vibrant vintage barware. We take in Monet and Picasso prints, Jere wall art and a host of fabulous items, then stop by our friend's sister mall to pick up more to take to our next stop.
    Our destination is Tower Avenue Antiques, at the heart of the burgeoning Centralia Antiques District between Seattle and Portland. This mall at the center of this top-10 American antique town sells well...in fact, the shelf unit our fresh finds were going to occupy sold right when we got there! Thankfully, we brought a freshly restored 1890s side-by-side cabinet, so we can fill the space with Native Americana, boudoir items, 1950s kitchenware and even the original props we got from the set of Northern Exposure.
    It's so much fun to show where we put all the fun stuff you see us find in videos! Our real world locations give our viewers and serious collectors in the region a chance to see, touch and feel our best finds where they're up close and personal...we hope you enjoy seeing them recast in a new light.

      I've seen some really nice antique andirons, but, like my collection of beverage sets, they do take considerable real estate to display, if they're kept intact. I have my granddad's old coal grate, and at one time had put a cushion in it and used it as a footstool. Not a good one to stub your toe on, though 😜😅 I think everyone really enjoys seeing what you have in your spaces. Maybe doing that a bit more often would be good 😉

      I found good stuff at flea markets there, and even the antique shops in NYC had some surprisingly good deals! Don't be afraid because it's a high-income area. I don't know a lot of the antique shops but I do know the RIdgefield Thrift Shop is actually a great place to find antiques & vintage. You might google a few places and then ask for references

    I have a piece of black amethyst and I love it for serving! It can appear black or deep purple, depending on how I use lighting. I buy serving dishes but reading online, I am now worried some of my pottery pieces (not the amethyst) will have lead in the glaze. Is there a guideline for when lead would likely be in a glaze or if its safe to eat from??

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is! It is more likely to be in yellow/orange/red glazes than other colors. Lead is actually not an issue as long as the piece was glazed with a clear coat correctly that seals it in, but if I see crazing in the glaze or something else that might allow it to leach out, I avoid it. Folk pottery is more likely (if it seems crude/handmade) to have a problem than commercially manufactured pieces. Some firms (like Fiesta) changed to lead-free glazes long ago and mark their pieces "lead free", but if you're really concerned you can order lead testing kits online.

    9:42 How tall is that clear glass candlestick in front of the Seattle's world's fair pennant? I have the short and the tall one and am needing the middle size one to have the set of 3. Probably no way of knowing unless I call up there to the mall, and hope it's still there.

      The Orrefors, that's a cool piece but I honestly don't know the measurements. If you contact them at (206) 945-2572 and it's the right size, they can sell it to you and I can pick it up and ship to you at the end of the month when I return
