My grandmother taught me how to crochet 45 years ago. All she crocheted were ripple afghans. I always wanted to crochet a ripple afghan in memory of her, but couldn’t wrap my head around it until now. Thanks to your fantastic tutorial, I am starting my “Missie memory” afghan tonight. Thank you beyond words. 💗
same here I used to go to Italy to see all four of my grandparents, my grandmom on the side of my mom she used to crochet ripple blankets and squares with flowers, and that was 45 years ago to, but I just do the pattern once and then I don't have to look anymore finish
That’s what I love about TH-cam. I’m a person that has to see things hands-on. And I crocheted for years before I could read patterns. Now I’m doing better reading patterns, because I have been learning my abbreviations over the last few years. There is a blog on the Internet called crochet spot. It has been very helpful for me with my abbreviations. Just take a deep breath and go for it! I really believe you can do it, just stick with it. I found that a lot of things I think are extremely hard looking, are not hard at all. Good luck!
I was very young, before a teen, and I am almost 77 now, when my grandma taught me to crochet. I make afghans. Gram did really fine crochet, hanky edging ,doilies, and pillow case edgings. She was fantastic.
Oh man, so relieved to find this exact video again. I haven’t crocheted a thing since Christmas, my husband passed away 5 months ago, and I am finally ready to start another one. Clearly I’d forgotten a step or two, but thank you so very much!!
I'm sorry for your great loss. Glad to see you are able to find joy in your hobby again. Grief can get a hold of your heart and never let go sometimes. Good luck on your future projects ❤ I hope this one turned out great!
This is my favorite ripple stitch video. I’ve made several blankets since first watching this. I came back to clarify one part, now starting another blanket. Thank you for your very clear instructions and visual!
My grandma also taught me and, all her blankets were ripples or granny's. She just showed me the basics. Now thanks to tutorials on you tube, I am learning far more than when I was trying to figure it out from a book. I bet my Granny's smiling from above! Mom too, although she wasn't all that interested in learning. This ripple pattern is unexpectedly easy. This one is for you G Louise! ;-) Thanks for the tutorial!
Best tutorial 🥰 I have tried this twice, and now I have gotten the hang of it...within 30 minutes😊😊 I will make a scarf to start with, and then try a little shawl. Thanks you for your easy to follow tutorial, and I love the yarn😊👍🏾
You are an excellent teacher. Your ripple cowl is on cuteness overload. Everyone check it out. I made many ripple Afghans in the 80’s but your pattern is mindless effort. Thank you so much
I was working off a pattern with a ripple stitch and the pattern had missing steps regarding the increase at the ends, chain 3 turn and so I was grateful to find this video to help. I am working on an Afghan for a gift.
This is the best tutorial I've seen for this stitch. Thank you for how you do your presentation. Alot of videos are too chatty about too much. It seems they think they can't have a quiet part in the video but you show and tell how it's done and after you do, you just stitch and it gives the viewers a chance to do the same without hearing a lot of irrelevant chatter. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. I really struggled with this stitch but after watching your tutorial I have mastered it. I was getting frustrated but now I can start on my blanket. X
Thank you! After watching your tutorial I was able to go back to my Grandma's last Afghan she made me and figure out her exact pattern, it happens to match yours!! Now I can carry on the family tradition in making afghan's for my children, and maybe one day my Grand children!
Thanks Brittany for this tutorial. I always have such a hard time with the ripple stitch! But for some reason your instruction seems to be perfect. I plan to try making something out of this again. I think making as scarf first, will do the trick. If I can get the hang of the stitch with a scarf, I can move onto an afghan, which is what I want to make. I can't wait to try Red Hearts new yarns too! Thanks!
I just want to thank you for your tutorial. I struggle with chevrons and couldn’t find a ripple I could actually do it. Your directions were excellent and after a swatch, I went right to a large blanket and my first row came out great. Keep posting!!-Judy in maine
I’ve tried so many videos and books to figure it out, and none of them work. Now I feel like a pro! Amazing video! Now I’m gonna try to crochet a pair of dungarees 😂❤
You are such a hood instructor…. I agree thst ripples and chevrons look great in multi colored yarns. I;m doing ine now, sing Red Heart’s Favorite Stripes, and it looks great. The Multi you used is really nice. I love the rich colors.’’ Thanks for a very well done tutorial… Sandy from Cincinnati
Thank you so very much I was trying to do this pattern like 8 years ago and I just did not get it right, I think it's because you made it so easy and made the decision very easy to understand. Thank you, your channel is perfect for beginners!❤️ I'm making my self a personal blanket. It's going to be pink I love pink.
Thank you for your tutorial...My daughter asked me to make her a throw and she picked her yarn and the ripple pattern. It’s been 20 years since I crocheted the ripple pattern. You made it very easy.....
I've made a few ripple afghans over the years but was looking for a different pattern - this one looks awesome. It will be an afghan/blanket for the couch bed in the spare room. Great Tutorial!
I am making a throw for my new couch using the Red Heart Ombré multi. Your tutorial was very helpful. Thanks so much. I will be following you in the future.😃
Thank you for this. There is a pattern that I would like to do, but it always helps me if I can visualize what I am to actually do. I am going to do a little practice swatch but I feel like this is very doable.
I am learning to crochet and will start today. I wanted to make a ripple stitch scarf using three colors. I think I will use this video as a tutorial, once I figure out how to change colors... Thank you so much!
I absolutely love your tutorials. Please figure out for me the count for the foundation of a big afghan. When I say big I’m thinking about 280 stitches. Does that sound right? I am so new to this but with you I am loving it. Thank you. Marianela
This is a great video and I followed everything exactly but on the 3rd row, my increases aren't lining up....They're off by a couple of stitches. What am I doing wrong?
Lovely! Thanks! I'd like to try this stitch in a handbag! I'll have to do some improvising on how to work the top and bottom, given I'll add lining and a zipper. No idea now if I should add some stitches to even out the end, or if I could leave it like that! (I'm new to bag making)
If I increase with. Double crochet at the end of each row as tutorial instructs, and turn and repeat the pattern, each row is going to be getting two more stitches.
Ok, I get it now. There is always one more “valley “ and one less “peak” in this type of pattern, so the double crochet increases at the beginning and end of each row merely balance it out. 😊😊😊
Greetings, I am Belinda, I love this teaching and have a question. Do the decreases and increases "stack" on top of each other each row or do they slightly stagger? I am Most Appreciative of how you instruct. &💖!
Love this stitch, seems so easy. My one question would be: I usually like to have a border on my blankets…what would you suggest and how to do it on the ripple edge? Thanks for any help! 😃
Thanks so much for the great tutorial. As you said, once the first row was done the rest were much easier. Can't wait to watch more of your videos. Is there a way to crochet a pattern, like a fish into the ripple so I don't have to sew in an applique?
Thank you for this video. When the war in Ukraine started I made flags to raise donations for the displaced Ukrainians and I used this stitch which made them look like they were waving in the wind. I never expected it to go on this long. But now that the first anniversary is here I've decided to make more to raise more funds but I could not remember how to start this stitch. I did not learn off of your video originally but I wish I had because this video was so simple to follow. I don't think I'm ever going to forget how to do it now. But I really hope I don't have to make very many more of these flags 😢 Slava Ukraine!
Hello, looking for some guidance. I'm on row 37 and the peaks and valleys seem to be flattening out. I've tried tightening my stitches without success. Any ideas are appreciated!
I started a blanket that used a ripple stitch pattern but I lost the pattern and just left this project. Wish me luck as I try to come back to it and try to finish it!
I am familiar with this Roll With It yarn by RH but I’m not so sure of the color you are using. Can you check to make sure it reads Multi? I can’t find it anywhere they sell RH Roll With It yarn…..
You made this so clear it was easy to understand. Thank you. May I ask if you have a tutorial on how to square the edges and doing a border if this was made into a blanket?
How would you build on the stitch, making it wider ? I want to make a flared sleeve on a jumper I’ve been working on and I can’t wrap my head around making the shoulder section width smaller and the wrist section wider.
I also used to knit but I kept dropping stitches, so U will understand when I say I have enuf to do with ongoing afghans at this time & they both have double crochet in each afgan for two of my grandchildren & then the other for my daughter, who wants me to do a ripple stitched one with most of my of the yarn I have stashed away in various places, so that will use up a lot of my yarn doing it whatever I come across at the time.
Can you add a note to post on sizes/ # of stitches for most afghans and how many chains or repeats of a full chevron (valley to peak) does a person need to make a standard size afghan (50@ x 64” ish???). Do I just multiply the stitch pattern by how many I think I need? I don’t want to have to frog it!!
I’m not sure if it is just me but at the end of row 2 I’m left with an extra stitch so then my next row is off. I’m now sure what I am doing wrong because I am following the video exactly the same way?
Well, the first row did not look too good so I am going to try again. I have a hard time with written instructions. i had an aunt that made me a beautiful afghan in this stitch and I sure with I had on been interested back then to learn. She could crochet so good, but as a teenager I was not interested in learning...gee how times sure do change.
when you say 14 plus 3 does that mean if I want my blanket bigger then 31 stitches wide do I do 14 plus 14 until it's the width I want and then add 3 at the end or add 3 afterceach 14

You are a very good teacher. I've been crocheting for 40 years and always felt defeated on ripple stitches. This really helped!

I like this also. It is very easy to understand.
I need a written pattern for this, can’t follow this person.

I have been watching several videos regarding the ripple / Chevron stitch and yours is by far the best. Thank you!!!!
Love how you take your time and explain every aspect. Thank you so much!
I will be making an ocean shore blanket and tacking on a few amigurumi sea turtles as a gift for my great niece. 😊🐢🌊
My daughter wants that blanket as well. So grateful for this tutorial 😊

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I was having a hard time understanding written instructions, but your explanation cleared it up!
Excellent instructions. I finally learned how to crochet the ripple stitch! Thank you!
I’m going to try my 1st ripple stitch blanket. Your explanation was great. Thanks so much! Mary-Jo
Thank you so much. I really struggled with this stitch but after watching your tutorial I have mastered it. I was getting frustrated but now I can start on my blanket. X
I followed this tutorial and made a beautiful big blanket. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and helping me learn!!!
This is hands down the BEST and easiest ripple stitch I have seen. Thsnk Yiu so much. And, the yarn is girgeius... I can do this.👍
Thank you so much!
Thank you for making this video so easy to follow! I frogged 283 stitches 4 times before I gave up on that tutorial and found yours!🎉
Thank you! After watching your tutorial I was able to go back to my Grandma's last Afghan she made me and figure out her exact pattern, it happens to match yours!! Now I can carry on the family tradition in making afghan's for my children, and maybe one day my Grand children!
I love this stitch. I’m learning to crochet all over again. I want to make a baby blanket. I love the way you explain this stitch.
You are an EXCELLENT teacher!!!
Your instructions are so clear, thank you. I’m going to create an afghan with this stitch. 🧶

Thank you so much. Your instruction is fantastic. I was so confused and you have made it all perfectly clear. Going to start my first ripple afghan.
Making a late graduation gift from high school, she will have it when she goes to collage!!
Great tutorial!
Thank you for your tutorial...My daughter asked me to make her a throw and she picked her yarn and the ripple pattern. It’s been 20 years since I crocheted the ripple pattern. You made it very easy.....
I’m so excited of learning this ripple, your work is so neat Thank you so much🌈🌈🦋🦋
This video was so helpful! You explain this so much better than my pattern book. Many thanks!
I’m going to start my ripple stitch Afghan today!!! Thanks for the tutorial 😃
Thank you for this. There is a pattern that I would like to do, but it always helps me if I can visualize what I am to actually do. I am going to do a little practice swatch but I feel like this is very doable.
HI Love the video. I am working on an afghan for my 6'6" tall son. I know he is going to love this. sooo pretty
That sounds like a wonderful project :) Have fun!
Thank u so much ....u r only the one who is showing us really gud pattern how to stich ...❤❤
I am learning to crochet and will start today. I wanted to make a ripple stitch scarf using three colors. I think I will use this video as a tutorial, once I figure out how to change colors... Thank you so much!
Sounds great! Have fun!
@@bhookedcrochet A couple of us here in the comments are wondering how to make a border for a blanket like this. Can you help?
Thanks! Was looking for easy to follow directions for ripple stitch and I found it! Looking forward to trying it!
You're a great teacher! Thank you!
This is going to be my first Ripple Blanket I do want to learn.
Finished learning this stitch rn thanks for teaching me i hope i can make a sweater with this
Thank you so much! I am following your Instructions and my work is looking so good 😃🤗❤️
Thank you for the lovely tutorial ❤
Thank you so much, I was following another & messed up. Watched this video & realized my mistake. I cannot wait to begin this project again
I absolutely love your tutorials. Please figure out for me the count for the foundation of a big afghan. When I say big I’m thinking about 280 stitches. Does that sound right? I am so new to this but with you I am loving it. Thank you. Marianela
l enjoyed doing this chevron ripple stich with u . u explain so easily. thank u very much.
Thank you I found It easy to follow and shall have fun completing the blanket
This is a great video and I followed everything exactly but on the 3rd row, my increases aren't lining up....They're off by a couple of stitches. What am I doing wrong?

If I increase with. Double crochet at the end of each row as tutorial instructs, and turn and repeat the pattern, each row is going to be getting two more stitches.
This confuses me too. Won’t the blanket just grow and grow into a cone shape?? if we end each row with 2 double crochet in the last stitch?
Ok, I get it now. There is always one more “valley “ and one less “peak” in this type of pattern, so the double crochet increases at the beginning and end of each row merely balance it out. 😊😊😊
Making my little cousin a ripple striped afghan with this pattern!
Greetings, I am Belinda, I love this teaching and have a question. Do the decreases and increases "stack" on top of each other each row or do they slightly stagger? I am Most Appreciative of how you instruct. &💖!
Definitely going to try this out. Thanks ❤

Can you put the ripple blanket in the washer and dryer or hand wash I don’t want to damage the blanket ?
Thank you for the tutorial! This really helped
Thanks for a great tutorial! I'm going to make a baby blanket for my friends first bubs :)
Do I have to work in the back bump? It’s not how I normally crochet
Easy peasy! Thanks 😊
Hello, looking for some guidance. I'm on row 37 and the peaks and valleys seem to be flattening out. I've tried tightening my stitches without success. Any ideas are appreciated!
With this ripple stage I will be making a baby blanket❤❤ ❤
Excellent. Thanks!!!!!
Perfect! Thank you sooooo much!
Yhank You! However i've got the enormous increase in the rows and i couldn't figure out why, what am i doing wrong? Please, please advise, thank You
I love this yarn - Red Heart
An Italian Story 'Multi'. Where can I buy it? Love the colors!
Thnks alot it's going to be my first time to do this riple pattern
Question: does it matter if you start with an even or odd multiple of 14 chains?
On the very beginning when you work in the back bump as you said, is that one loop only? Is the back bump one loop for starting row only?
I started a blanket that used a ripple stitch pattern but I lost the pattern and just left this project. Wish me luck as I try to come back to it and try to finish it!
I am familiar with this Roll With It yarn by RH but I’m not so sure of the color you are using. Can you check to make sure it reads Multi? I can’t

If you wanted to make a throw that 2 people could cuddle under, how many chains should I start with? What was the width of your demo piece?
Great tutorial!
It would be nice to know how many chains for each afghan we make. I would like to know how many chains for lap afghan please
I want to crochet a wrap
thank you God Bless everyone ❤🙏
Could you please tell me if would possible to square this pattern off, and how I could do it many thanks
I really like that you have four dc between peak and valley
excellent tutorial....look forward to more:)
Can you share how many stitches to do a blanket, I am nearly blind and want to do a blanket.
Hello how many chain should I do for blanket size 40x60 ?
Would any variegated yarn work with this?
I'm planning on making a large blanket using bright color yarns from Hobby Lobby.
Would you help me with how many chains to start out with for a twin size afghan? thanks
What if you don’t work in back stitch on that foundation row! What if you waited to do that after that first row? Really hard on foundation row??
I’m not sure if it is just me but at the end of row 2 I’m left with an extra stitch so then my next row is off. I’m now sure what I am doing wrong because I am following the video exactly the same way?
Well, the first row did not look too good so I am going to try again. when you say 14 plus 3 does that mean if I want my blanket bigger then 31 stitches wide do I do 14 plus 14 until it's the width I want and then add 3 at the end or add 3 afterceach 14
Multiples of 14, then add 3. Those 3 form your first 'stitch' in each row. So, 28+3, 42+3, 56+3, 112+3, or whatever width you need
Could you do this with all single crochet instead? ☝🏼
