its not only the titels it´s also the german dubbing to a certain point that´s why I started to watch everything in the english original version for round about 30 years now.
By the way "The good, the bad and the ugly" one of the most iconic Spaghetti-Western ever and part 3 of the "Dollars Trilogy" ("A Fistful dollars"/"For a few dollars more"/"The good the bad and the ugly") is obviously about 3 people while the titel "Zwei glorreiche Halunken" is about 2 people..I always thought about who they left out and why ..Well Clint Eastwood (the good) was definitively ment but was Lee van Cleef (the bad) left out or Eli Wallach (the ugly) ? Who knows?
By the way the melody you whistled was from this movie and not from "Once upon a time in the west" and the songtitel is what a surprise "The good , the bad and the ugly" ...the socalled "song of death" so to say from "Once upon in the west" was the iconic track "the man with the harmonica"..Just listen and you will definitively recognize even if you haven´t watched the movie.

Moana is called Vaiana in Europe, as there is an "adult entertainment" star with the name of Moana, somewhere from Eastern Europe I think, so (not only) to prevent copyright issues, the movies and main characters names were changed.

To be precise, it's because there is already a movie called Moana (although not about that (Italian) adult actress) and in Germany no two movies are allowed to have the same title because of copyright laws. That's actually the reason for a lot of those strange changes.

That means rasselsnake, but the guy in the movie has a cobra-tattoo on his arm.

The method/strategy you guys are wondering about is called cultural adaption or localization. Translators do this to not only convey the meaning but also to translate the titles appropriately into the target culture.

Monty Python is, I think, an exception to that "old comedy cringe" rule. They are in a category to themselves, and seems pretty much timeless. They are poking fun at the fabric of society itself, and that is pretty much still the same.
There is some cringe in it, of course, but that was already cringe when it came out, it was intended like that. (Though they wouldn't have used that word probably back then).

the tune you whistled actually comes from "The good, the bad and the ugly". But it is composed by Ennio Morricone too. The term "Spiel mir..." comes from the story when Henry Fonda used a mouth organ to put between the teeth of a Mexican while his brothers stands on his shoulder with a rope around his neck. As long the man on the ground can play the organ the other survives. And so Fonda tells him: "Play me a song about death...."

Great idea for a video. It prompted me to wonder if maybe the titles were changed in Germany because the word-for-word translation might change the meaning. I seemed to recall something with a Coca Cola being changed in China because it literally meant something about bringing back the dead. 🤣 I found some a few sites that listed American products with different names in other countries. Like how Mr. Clean in the US is Meister Proper in Germany. It might be fun to see similar comparisons.
When I've been to fast food restaurants in other countries I've noticed that some items have more country-friendly names and that there are some different items altogether on the menu. Might be interesting to see some US/Euro differences.
Last thing....Phil, your "whistle melody" is from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," not "Once Upon a Time in the West."

So fun. Maybe you could do an episode about words with different pronunciation - so different that you have no idea what the other one is talking about. the literal translation "Stirb hart" would make no sense in german, and also "Stirb qualvoll" would hint more at a movie about torture. thus i find "Stirb langsam" not bad at all. and simply using the original title is not possible because "die" would be read as "the hard" ...
