I just love how you, nonchalantly and in this relaxed and with this calm mood you have, you just bombard us with so much knowledge, information, techniques and history. Thank you for all this videos. Cheers from Barcelona, Spain
Quite correct, he is knowledgeable, we have another bonsai nursery near London, who just talks about how good he is, I call him the “ chop man “ no detail, no finesse, no skill….

Incredible eye for bonsai! To see the beauty hidden in the mass of leaves and limbs, is a special intelligence and genius. Truly a master bonsai artist!!!🌱🌿🌱 This is the 2nd time I’ve watched this styling and didn’t see or appreciate all the beauty that was uncovered and created. Outstanding. Thank you.
You have got the chemistry perfect the skills and that subtle flow of humour, I never thought of using guy wires as often ,tended to just wire around branches to move them. Thanks again . keep up the great videos...
I found your channel yesterday and literally have been watching you all day today! The carving on the top was the icing on the cake. Absolutely love your creativity. I think I’m a little too old to start so I’ll have to live vicariously through your channel. 😊
Thanks Corin. Super tree. I've got a couple of Hawthorn that were planted by a squirrel in one of my tubs over 20 years ago, still trying to get them to flower.
I agree that you did not remove the jin...it adds to the story of the tree and even though as you said the apex will hide it from the front, from the other sides it will still be visible and adds interest...especially as I see this tree being exhibited on a revolving table, for it is awesome 360 degrees. Thanks for another video...I JUST ADORE HAWTHORNS.
Great Hawthorn Corin. The leaf colour is so vivid. I say you only get the rewards if you put in the effort, and you certainly can tell you love your work and all the effort pays off, and you must get so much satisfaction. Keep the videos coming to tide us all on till spring.
Stunning work as usual and love the carving work adds another aspect to the tree . I loved your tree at the start in flower beautiful you must have an outstanding collection , great video again guy's 5*
fantastic I wasnt sure about taking the big branch off at the left back side but as soon as it was carved I could see a massive difference and also the large branch stuck up in the middle, I thought "chop it off" but once again I was wrong, the way you carved it made the difference. you have given me the confidence to try some of these methods myself.
Great video as ever. Give my best to your director.😉. Was hoping you might do a follow up after the leaves have shed. Would be good to see how you refine the tertiary branching. Guess it will be sold by then. 😀
Beautiful tree. I love hawthorn. I am not a fan of carving. So I think I would have cut that top branch of instead of carving. Nice video. Good explaining of all the techniques. Very clear to understand for a 5 year experience bonsai lover. (Beginner). Ofcourse a👍
Amazing trees. One question though, you said they were English Hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata), but to me the leaves and flowers of the first one looks like Common Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna). They could also be hybrids of course.
Hi Corin, Love the multitrunk Hawthorne that you showed first 😍, When you do shai work as with this one, What do you use to stop the wood from rotting? I know many Bonsai folk dislike using lime sulphur on deciduous trees and wondered if Wood hardener would be good, I used Cyano glue on a Juni that was rotting at the base, It set like iron after!! I recall someone trying Teak oil years ago but didn't find out if it was a good fix! Keep up the great work- Love the vids 👍😎😎
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio Thanks. I live in - more or less - the same climate conditions (The Netherlands). When starting a (very) young and small hawthorn for bonsaï, it is quite an issue over here but I guess with older and bigger ones (with more foliage!), it's a bit more safe.
I'm trying to get some cuttings of a pink Hawthorn to survive at the moment, I really love the species. There is also one with nice and yellow berries in my area which I want to try and get some cuttings from. Any tips on getting them to survive?
Hi Corin. Enjoyed the video (as usual) but wondered if you feel that just using guy wires is sufficient or whether you think that there is any benefit in combining branch wiring with guy wires i.e would it help to "set" the branch any quicker?
No, but you can get more movement, I often use both. But with this tree as an initial styling my main priority was just to get them pulled down. They can be wired laterally if needed in future.
Question: So if Corrin was trying to develop the Apex of that Hawthorn why would you Jin the Top? wouldn't you want to have more surface are for branches to develop to help ith the Apex Development??
8:00 That elephant trunk bit look to me like a person's arm twisted backwards, and the whole tree looks like a person with their bum stuck out with some twigs growing out of it )
I love how passionate you are not only the plant itself but also the art of what it could be.
Great tree! Nice reggae & bonsai 😎🤟🏾

Thankyou for a brilliant instructional video.
Beautiful tree
From what I see, your nursery overall has the most fascinating material.

Don't waste time and start growing bonsai, young man!
Well I thoroughly enjoyed watching that. Beautiful piece of art.
Absolutely stunning
You are a magician ! this is wonderful
Absolutely fantastic work on the Hawthorn the carving is fantastic
Thanks Corin. Super tree. I've got a couple of Hawthorn that were planted by a squirrel in one of my tubs over 20 years ago, still trying to get them to flower.

Just noticed your leather man watch bracelet. I am still looking for a watch for mine. Great video Corin. See you at Swindon hopefully.
What a great tree...nice work. Very inspiring.
Thank you so much to all at Greenwood Bonsai, your trees and videos are incredible.
Glad you like them!

Great work as always, an absolute pleasure to watch.
That is absolutely stunning! Your artistic sense is astonishing. Well done you!
Best videos there are! Great job brother!
My favourite tree by far, absolutely stunning . Really want a big hawthorn 😮❤
Bravo master 👌👍👏

Thank you
Outstanding work. Love the advice; "cut out the nonsense!" Beautiful trees especially the first one in flower. Bet they take a bit of effort to move.
Beautiful indeed, but for me they are wrong because the canopy of a hawthorn isn't that shape in it's natural form
Hawthorns come in many shapes
really nice work
Corin your videos are great and very informative, but please, give us a smile sometimes.
Ha, in the newer videos I'm getting more relaxed around the camera !
Very nice... I feel like that left-hand root could go in future.
Stunning work as usual and love the carving work adds another aspect to the tree . I loved your tree at the start in flower beautiful you must have an outstanding collection , great video again guy's 5*
so gorgeous! I wish you could come do mine!
Wow!! What a beautiful composition 👍👍
the carving song is great :D
Need to come and visit one day, awesome work! Music choice on point too! Quite often dip into the dub selections when wiring here! Vibes!
Wow
Amazing to watch the master and his living sculpture, bravo 👏

Hawthorne leaves are perfect for bonsai.
Stunning!
Great video, we saw the first tree today when we popped over for a few bits, it looked stunning.
Glad you carved the top as I am wanting to collect some material from yards but not sure about how to deal with massive trunk chops
Awesome work.
Thank you so much 😀
Love hawthorns, any up to date videos on some of your hawthorns

Great tree. Would like to see an update if possible. Thank you very much for your work.
keep an eye out, coming up real soon

That's exactly what I explained, its carved for now, to show technique, but can be removed if future owner doesn't favour it.
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio makes sense to leave as many options as possible. You can always cut more off, but you can never put it back on!
Excellent work beautiful tree Corin, great backing track what is it called please.
Check out the band Concrete Rose
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio thanks will do👍
Awesome work but what the name of that song and who sings it?
Hi, thanks for you comment.
The song is by Concrete Rose & the song title is Morning Sun
They are a local band to Nottingham
I love the look of the cutter bit on your makita, what is it, where do you get them??
Would love to see a carving video!
You just have lol !
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio d'oh! Haha! I missed out the word root/nebari! I have some ugly roots on a collected hawthorn!
Love the accent

Ive just purchased a ulmus Jacqueline hillier any tips pointers or videos on this would be great to help me create a successful bonsai
Amazing trees. One question though, you said they were English Hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata), but to me the leaves and flowers of the first one looks like Common Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna). They could also be hybrids of course.
Yes, they are monogyna I believe. But naturally occurring as you said. So hybridisation could have occurred.

Yes, I prefer to use clear wood hardener on hawthorn
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio I use Ronseal wood hardener. It penetrates well. The Cyano"Super Glue " is an expensive alternative.
Wow, I generally do not like multi-trunks at all, but that thing is sweet.
Nice and interesting. And certainly a lot of potential. No troubles with mildew on this species?
They are susceptible to mildew, but not much about yet this year. Spraying with Fungicide will clear it up if you get an outbreak.

Air layering will be more successful for you
Thank you for sharing your work Corin. Can I ask have you ever worked with Korean lilac as bonsai?
yes, we have a few for sale at the moment at the nursery
Do you keep the thorns or remove them?
hi is real nice tree, but I will change the front on the opposite side. where you can see bouth carving
Hi Corin. Enjoyed the video (as usual) but wondered if you feel that just using guy wires is sufficient or whether you think that there is any benefit in combining branch wiring with guy wires i.e would it help to "set" the branch any quicker?

How long time before the branches sit?
Can a Hawthorne survived a trunk chop without any bottom buds?
Yes, this tree is doing really well after this work
Is it for sale? What would it cost?
Question: So if Corrin was trying to develop the Apex of that Hawthorn why would you Jin the Top? wouldn't you want to have more surface are for branches to develop to help ith the Apex Development??
Because it was heavy and clunky, so was carved down as a Jin. This allows apex to be developed from younger more manageable growth.
