  • In this video Corin repots a huge Japanese maple group planting. The bonsai forest is made from katsura maple and was assembled by Corin's father Harry Tomlinson in the mid 90's.
    He shows how to work on the roots when potting group planting for bonsai.

    Thanks Corin. Lovely group. You are correct about the Greenwood shears being sharp. I got careless a few days ago and sliced my thumb open with mine. Well on the mend now, wound closures removed, and Wife has said I can have my Bonsai tools back in a couple of days.

    A fantastic grouping. You can see the TLC and efforts to maintain it. Great video on repotting large groupings. I don’t use 100% Akadama where I’m located. Besides the $$$, use grits/lava/etc along with pumice and aged fir bark for well draining soil. Seems to work great here. Like your videos; keep them coming.

    Great work on your dads tree group which I have admired on numerous occasions over time Corin, I had the pleasure of meeting your dad when he came to the Nuneaton bonsai club I suppose it would be in the 90s my memory is not so good now but I do remember his demonstration of styling and putting together a juniper group of trees. I have his books still used for reference. Look forward to returning to the nursery when I can.

    • @greenwoodbonsaistudio

      Probably yes due to 1000's of re-pots, but VERY seldom. Any losses usually due too stretching timeframes of re-potting work.

    Again nice video. Nice to see your dad's work from 30 years ago is still going strong. That certainly eats a lot of akadama haha. If your dad has planted this 30 years ago, where they smaller trees to begin with or already quite large? Greetings!

  • @simonjones686
    @simonjones686 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Corin (and the team at Greenwood Bonsai) the planting looks amazing. I’m still learning about trees/horticulture etc. and I noticed that the majority of the trimmed branch was healthy red, the primary branch was wood/lignified and the bit in the middle sometimes looked grey / dead.? I would have assumed this and cut the branch off (hence I’ve got a garden full of sticks, not quite). Is this therefore a branch in development between both stages, hopefully my question made sense.

    Hi Corin, do you not sieve your akadama? (obviously) but I guess my question is, doesn't leaving the dust in it mean you have to repot at shorter intervals?

    • @greenwoodbonsaistudio
      @greenwoodbonsaistudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, but I use high grade Akadama, and when first watering the dust gets washed out so no issue.
