How can you even come up with a melody like this, where does he get inspiration? This is beyond creativity, it truly feels Godlike. I'm blown away, I have chills all over my body and I just can't explain all the emotions coming out of this masterpiece. Apparently what he does is use an arpeggiator plugin to come up with the riffs and licks, then he learns how to play them. It's an amazing hybrid of using technology to write music, then artistry to perform it flawlessly
my guess? by listening to a lot of music from a wide range of genres and styles. this song alone has aspects of flamenco, spanish guitar, electronic, hip-hop, etc. i like that polyphia is not shy about their influences. they're a fantastic example of synthesis: pulling ideas from a bunch of different places to create something new and wholly their own

These guys play insanely well live too. Idk why people are down playing it's just studio, and production. They can and do execute at a high level in a live performance. Not even close to a parallel of some fraud musicians who only sound good in the studio.
I don't think a lot of people understand how difficult it is to play something like this with perfect timing, the way Tim does here. I've been playing for 10+ years and I can play many bits of Polyphia songs, including this one. But playing an entire piece like this, in one take, without making even a minor rhythmic error is astonishing. Tim's on another level.
@@Liece45 well as far as i can tell the video is uncut, the audio all matches very perfectly with his hand movements, and I see no reason to include a click track at the beginning unless one was trying to suggest this is one take.
He makes it look easy, but I think he spent a lot of time on this piece. You can have all the talent in the world, but there aren't any shortcuts to playing like this. Respect to this guy.
I had a piano teacher in college that would always say “the slower you play the faster you learn.” It’s not easy having the discipline to play through an entire piece or exercise, reading and playing one note at a time start to finish, but that’s the fastest way to learn IMO
This is so awesome and amazing to watch. The way he barely touches the strings and dropping this sound and dynamic is way too inspiring. Look if you want to se an instrument being a natural extension of a beautiful mind. It looks so damn effortless. On a skill level and timing I'm not sure many could do. ❤ Tim. You are awesome. Obviously music like this attracts musicians through its technical nature, but honestly my favourite thing about Tim and Polyphia is that in a world where nostalgia is king they are actually doing something new and refreshing.
This isn't very new though to anyone with a ear in flamenco or other acoustic guitar acts. This is pretty simple to the likes of say a Al Di Meola, Andy McKee or a Felix martin, Paco de Lucia an etc. It's just people being more exposed to a type of music they never listened too previously so it seems "new" an refreshing.

@@crowing3886 They clearly have external inspirations just like any other artist but they bring it in a new and original way in my opinion. Sure some guitar parts may be similar to flamenco but the way they combine it with other influences and with the bass and drums is unique. :)
I’ve realised I have avoided listening to Polyfia for so long out of sheer jealousy and envy at this guy’s skill. Once I sorted all my own mental issues I can see that they are in fact awesome

When you're that good and are able to play songs like this there is not much tension anymore and it all becomes dependent on muscle memory and you don't even need to focus hard on what you're doing anymore. I'm no guitarist but I know how it feels like to have so much practice in something to the point where things so complex almost become second nature. Very cool feeling of complete zen while performing like a super human. This is the first video i've seen of him actually and it's very interesting how people can be so good at certain things to such an extent.

I can play the song and after 12 years of playing guitar it took me 1 year to loose the tension while playing this song. And still i havent perfected it. He is just on another level

I usually listen to a song i really like for like a whole day then proceeds to hate it afterwards, but you said it right. It gets more impressive everytime i listen to it. It's like there's something new.
@@itsmegae258 To make music like this (or anything good) the creator of that music must listen to it thousands of times, as a general rule. If you hate the music you are creating, it won't last that long. You'll trash it before then. All of the music I create gets the same treatment. If it's worth listening to again, it's worth giving all of your love to it.

Same here I'm not a huge Polyphia fan I can't just listen to their songs while driving or even chill to them. However, the first half of this song is fkn amazing I keep listening to it over and over I just cannot believe the level of talent it takes to pull off all those harmonics back to back so fast without error it's just crazy. Don't get me wrong harmonics aren't the hardest thing in the world to pull off, however, there are 100's of ways to do a harmonic wrong and only 1 right way, and how he pulls them off with such ease is just mindblowing, especially at that speed. Yeah, I cannot groove to most of their music but what I will say is Tim is one hell of a guitarist and with that kind of talent he can go places. I have seen some of his other videos and the dude has unbelievable talent.

It's currently widely practiced among most modern day guitarists. I feel That Tosin Abasi has had an immense influence on Henson's playing, particularly in his picking style.
His ability to place the harmonics in there so effortlessly is what Stands out the most to me but I’m not a guitar player. I can still see and hear this is incredible though
I agree! after listening to it quite sometime, the part in 2:35 really shows a great timing on how the harmonics were used. That brief moment where I wouldn't normally expect it just make it sound complicatedly beautiful.
I know nobody will see this but I wanted to share anyway… I knew nothing about guitar when I first saw Tim play this… his style and vibe and sound 100 percent convinced me to learn guitar! Picked up a Taylor 114ce and I have been taking lessons for a month now!!! I know I’ll likely never be able to play this song, but if I could ever even come close, I’d die happy.

@@collinplummer8724 Billy Strings is a great guitarist, but in no way puts Hensen 'to shame'. Very different techniques, and even Billy would admit he isn't the most technical bluegrass player. Molly Tuttle (and others) 'beat' him there but don't have his flair. Hensen is different level from everything I've watched.
Literally a beginner, the only song I could play is Zombies by Cranberries, that too while struggling quite a lot. Hearing this man play a song this hard so clean and effortlessly is like looking at a new life. I really hope one day I can get to this level.

I had a piano teacher in college that would always say “the slower you play the faster you learn.”
It’s not easy having the discipline to play through an entire piece or exercise, reading and playing one note at a time start to finish, but that’s the fastest way to learn IMO

Obviously music like this attracts musicians through its technical nature, but honestly my favourite thing about Tim and Polyphia is that in a world where nostalgia is king they are actually doing something new and refreshing.
This isn't very new though to anyone with a ear in flamenco or other acoustic guitar acts. This is pretty simple to the likes of say a Al Di Meola, Andy McKee or a Felix martin, Paco de Lucia an etc. It's just people being more exposed to a type of music they never listened too previously so it seems "new" an refreshing.

The pure control you have over that guitar is clear as day man. There is zero tension in your whole body, that's fucking impressive
When you're that good and are able to play songs like this there is not much tension anymore and it all becomes dependent on muscle memory and you don't even need to focus hard on what you're doing anymore. I'm no guitarist but I know how it feels like to have so much practice in something to the point where things so complex almost become second nature. Very cool feeling of complete zen while performing like a super human. This is the first video i've seen of him actually and it's very interesting how people can be so good at certain things to such an extent.

If you hate the music you are creating, it won't last that long. You'll trash it before then. All of the music I create gets the same treatment. Same here I'm not a huge Polyphia fan I can't just listen to their songs while driving or even chill to them. However, the first half of this song is fkn amazing I keep listening to it over and over I just cannot believe the level of talent it takes to pull off all those harmonics back to back so fast without error it's just crazy. Don't get me wrong harmonics aren't the hardest thing in the world to pull off, however, there are 100's of ways to do a harmonic wrong and only 1 right way, and how he pulls them off with such ease is just mindblowing, especially at that speed. Yeah, I cannot groove to most of their music but what I will say is Tim is one hell of a guitarist and with that kind of talent he can go places. I have seen some of his other videos and the dude has unbelievable talent.

Molly Tuttle (and others) 'beat' him there but don't have his flair. Hensen is different level from everything I've watched.
