Well, it seems mine had either a slightly bent shaft, and the contact points in the start clutch(?) were burnt. I initially cleaned them with 180 or so emery, put it back together, still stuck. I later filed them, and I chucked the armature up in the lathe and emeryed the shaft ends a bit, and it is now working. My motor has bushings instead of bearings, must the the economy model! Posting just in case anyone else runs into the same problem
So did the repair to the rear plate work? When you were spinning it I thought, "Oh, there's a little English on that spin" and figured like you did it was from being dropped on the casing. Do you clean up the motors, etc. before giving back to the customer?
Yes I got it fixed, and I typically clean the motors before they go back, on big motors like 20hp and above I wash them out and completely dry them and repack bearings before they leave the shop
I lucked out and got mine for $30 at an auction. 3 phase motors are super cheap here at auctions. I have an extra I’d be willing to trade for some of your 5 mt tooling, it’s a baldor and iv seen it run

Thanks for giving some info that might help some others
Did the bearing replacement fix it? I have a stuck 1/3 HP Emerson "tool duty motor" that I am thinking is the bearings as I can't spin it easily
Yes it did

@@smalltownmachineshop6860 sounds great, I need a motor you need tooling. Find out how much to ship. I'll send you a few pics if the tooling.
You'll know it's a cheap brand of motor if all it says is "Induction Motor" on the nameplate.
