@@백서백I dont know what is actually bad about Metagross. I had one in the opponent team he almost never get down did 100k damage in a Master rank match without a supporter. I think maybe it doesnt fit into our personally play style but if someone can handle it he can be a rough Pokemon to deal against it. Its Unite Attack is really underwhelming for its own but I think we didnt found out the real use case for it. In one match I use the Unite and my teammate Gardevoir puts her Unite into the wall I create and it was game changing for this moment.

I think this is clearly more about Mewtwo duo's release exacerbating and diluting every release after it, because everything pales I'm comparison to them as the players grew numb to their ridiculously overpowered presence shaping the game around them, so now every subsequent release feels lacking because they don't reach the same heights; *_all of the new releases look weak when they're being juxtaposed to 'the norm' that was Mega Mewtwo duo for a while_*

i'm also not convinced they realize that people would have still been excited about Mewtwo if it had been balanced. Like, people like cool Pokemon and it's fun to play one's fave.
But it's hard if not impossible to get a $100+ billion corporation -and its Chinese dev giant partner- to change the way they see & do things, and unfortunately from their perspective, every new release has just proven no one cares/spends unless something is super busted & game-breaking.

I think weak releases are far better than op ones. So many new mons even dating back to Urshifu last December have been instant meta picks that it's nice to have some that are not so overwhelming. Broken releases feel almost like they make the game pay to win for the first week and from what I've seen tend to leave everyone awaiting the next balance patch more eagerly than the pokemon's actual release. With underpowered ones it seems more like we play them, see if they're good, and if they are then cool, but if not it isn't that big of a deal because the meta isn't majorly disrupted and they can easily get buffs later like everything after Mewtwo has ended up getting. Maybe it's not as great financially for the devs but from the players' side I think it's a lot better this way

The only thing I think about these topic is that they literally have the test server for them to see whether a pokemon is balanced or not but they just used the test server to prematurely release pokemon, not do any test changes, and just release them how they want it to be.
I really hope they change their plans on that server. They could make a experimental patch every week with a lot of pokemon. They see how it performs in battle and decide whether to scrap it, tweak it a little, or apply it on normal servers. This also solves the problem of test servers only being useful when a new mon drops

To keep hype levels high without releasing OP pokemon, the key to me is releasing fun, goofy (silly, even) pokemon.

I feel like Metagross was built as a defender then somewhere in the pipeline they just switched it to All-Round but heavily stripped its defenses and made both zen headbutt and its unite stopped by terrain. My issue with the current releases is that we do randomly get these broken pokemon between releases that don't get tuned at all. I feel like Metagross needs more oomph or more tankiness because I was hyped for my cyberspider but I dont feel like I do much outside setup for some wipes. If that's how they want all-rounders to be, than a lot of all-rounders need to be changed.

  • @oxygen3143
    @oxygen3143 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

The main problem with the community being accustomed to things being broken is that it had become very difficult to gauge whether a new release is terrible or just balanced. Personally I believed Blaziken and Mimikyu to be balanced on release, but people were so dissatisfied with these releases that they got buffed almost immediately after their release. For Blaziken I thought this was fine, as it currently feels really good without being overbearing. Mimikyu on the other hand became stupidly broken after this ‘emergency’ buff, because it probably wasn’t as bad as people were saying, and the buffs were so massive.
Now we’ve arrived at the same point with Metagross, where we have to assess how good this thing truly is in the meta. Granted, I think it’s terrible. To me it feels worse to play than release Azumarill, but I can understand why TiMi would be hesitant to buff it considering what happened to Mimikyu.
Having said that, it currently has the lowest winrate in the game at 42%, with the next lowest being Cinderace at 47%. Metagross seriously needs buffs, it’s the worst character in the game rn without question

Mimkyu play rough got toned down and is balanced now honestly. Also They are gonna buff metagross just give it time. It only just came out. Meow got emergency buffed because of how many were dissatisfied wtih it. I think its safe to assume metagross buffs will happen soon. Also Meta is not worst character in teh game that would be something like snorlax, garchomp, ttar, or zeraora.

The biggest most concerning issue with unite is matchmaking, I with thousands of wins and mastered every season I play with 1600+ seasons shouldn’t get an entire team that has less played games combined between them than I have wins and not a single teammate having a master season ever, or get teammates with 5500 games and never a master season, those people should not be on my team and only make my gameplay much more unenjoyable with how bad they play, this will not be fixed with even drafting because people just blatantly refuse to build good team comps also

While I do think they could afford to drop characters that're tuned a bit higher, I also think it's okay to be cautious for awhile after the craziness of the 1st half of 2023 releases (outside goodra). For me, I'm just hoping that they don't get scared of making characters feel unique and exciting (but also do hope that they don't make something insane just to supplement the character gimmick)

    • @theendlessphoenix2799
      @theendlessphoenix2799 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's hard to tune it perfectly as a developer because it's hard to get an audience that play tests something according to your exact parameters.
PTS does exist but it's open ended. I would love to see a CBT for each patch but that's an extremely taxing process so I don't expect timi to even try and do it.
Weirdly enough the gem release seems like the best window to play test a Pokemon and from public opinion as well as some play testing they can make changes accordingly.
It's hard to tell in a vacuum If some foreign object you add to something is good or bad until you experience it .

That single digit am posting, sure sign of a dad with a newborn in the house.
As for releases, you got it right, they need to release as a good approach shot (close, but not too far off), then adjust from there.
Generating hype is easy with sequenced timed limited missions with the releases. The missions require using the new pokemon to reward cosmetics and resources. It doesn't have to grant the new pokemon (like meowscakrada, but those are cool too). Granting gems back for using your new purchase drives experience up, which naturally will lead the community to figure out how to maximize its value sooner.

I will always say it's easier to release something underwhelming and bring it up than to release something broken and nerf it into the ground, within reason for both scenarios, of course. I can also say that the Devs really need to get into a habit of hotfixing Pokemon that are causing huge issues, like Mewtwos and Zacian. This game honestly has some really high balance notes among the sour taste they left us with these EX releases, and if they can find that balance with Miraidon and Koraidon, the entire community will be in high spirits come Feb. All we can hope is that Pokemon and TiMi find this balance soon. I love this game, will always love this game, whatever happens will happen, and this string of mostly balanced releases has been a relief to say the least. Here's to a great 2024 and a year of awesome Unite content!

Or... make them unique? Giving us playstyles like dodrio, blaziken, greedent, cramorant, mew, these odd ball releases. It freshens everything up. It really feels like there's too many pokemon to play because most of them have just standard playstyles because it's been redone so many times. It's gotten boring. I don't want point and click, I dont want another cone shaped slash. I want to manage cooldowns as mew. I want these skill cap abilities. The new skillcap abilities are great, but they're reskins of existing ones. The 5 I listed have expanded the playstyle of the game, not just added content to it. Sorry but Gardevoir and Chandelure's overheat are very similar, and isn't flamethrower oddly similar to delphox during its meta? Snipe Shot and liquidation both seem pretty familiar to me... maybe they're too similar to Glaceon icicle spear and decidueye arrows. The moves aren't the exact same but they're very close

I think what unite needs to start doing to generate hype around these releases is play into the fact that people already love these pokemon. People get so hyped for smash bros characters regardless of how good they end up being because they want to have their favourites in the game, and Nintendo plays into that with big cinematic trailers at surprise events. Obviously Unite does not have the platform or budget to pull off Minecraft Steve announcement level hype, but its says something when ElChicoEevee is the one who does the most teasing and hypebuilding for the releases.
If they do some teasers and allow for some speculation in the leadup to a launch, I think Unite could become really big.
(Alternative Idea: Instead of slowly releasing pokemon one by one when they're ready, release 3 at once. This would mean more time to balance the newcomers, allow for a meta to develop instead of being patched in a week, and draw up more hype for releases since they wouldn't get so stale.)
The new releases have come out in really great states for the meta, but they'll only make so much money for TiMi without proper buildup.

To be honest, what killed the hype for me was the gem locking. At this point it feels like a small thing, and I want TiMi to make their money to keep developing the game, but it’s the main reason I don’t get hyped about releases. Look at Apex Legends: Their trailers are fully animated like if it was a Netflix show. (Arcane for example.) I agree with a lot of the sentiment here. the EX mons tilted the scale too much and skewed everyones expectations.
As for how to build hype... I think they are on the right track with stacking the roster. More mons mean more variety and diversity (unless something is "broken" and becomes a must have). Honestly, I'm happy with how it is, for two main reasons:
Firstly, because new releases are gem-locked for a week, so I don't feel like I'm missing out too much if they're pretty balanced. And I get to see how it plays in matches, then can decide if it's worth getting or saving coins for the next one. If it releases OP, by the time I have access to it (without paying), it's likely to be nerfed, so a balanced release would be better.
Secondly, because releasing OP Pokémon like Mewtwo/s brings hype and new players...but at the expense of the enjoyment of the dedicated players who stick around for the Pokémon that require more effort than pressing A, A, A, A, A, A, A...
If new, casual players leave because they can't be Mewtwo in every match and do their own thing, I'm fine with that. Some players will enjoy the game, get to know other roles and stick around, and that's great. But honestly, weeding out the toxic, useless Mewtwo players isn't a terrible thing, imo.

The releases we got when they were world destroyers have been nice, but I can’t deny that a few times, I felt like I would have been better off and wait for a deal to drop (that’s what I did with Leafeon until this recent sale).
Still, I really do hope Magikarp and Gyarados can thread that needle and help us kick 2024 off on the right foot. Even if their release won’t be until towards the end of the month. Just love the idea of Magikarp leveling up not because of being a high level, but because it got pissed off (going to hope for a strong release).

I think what needs to happen is more thought needs to go into the feel of the mechanics themselves for each kit. Things need to flow, make sense, and feel fun. Then, no matter what, even if the pokemon need a bit of tuning, they should be new and exciting and provide a fresh playstyle. Which I think has been a bit of an issue with some of the kits. League had a similar issues as well as it evolved and eventually changed older kits to better fit the more varied character expression that it has now, and continues to do so.

I feel like Ex mons should have 1 fixed held item & only 2 empty slots like Zacian:
Mewtwo: Mewtwo Megastones = allows Mewtwo X & Mewtwo Y to mega evolve.
Koraidon/ Miraidon: sandwich or tera shard. (assumption)
    - Sandwich = restores health & temporarily buffs a stat/ restores health & temporarily gives hindrance resistance.
    - Tera shard = adds a hindrance effect & temporarily debuffs opponent's speed when hit.
They're already strong enough, giving them the opportunity to have a 3-slot fully damage/ crit based items & medals can be overkill
(and this is without Comfey, Eldegoss & Blissey partnering up).

Ok I have a crazy idea but stay with me. Pokemon as a company have always teased new pokemon in the anime or other games before they released like togipi, ho-oh and meltan. And unite loves eevee-lutions. I think i'd be hype if they released like a fighting type eevee-lution all-arounder, a flying type support or a rock type defender. You could still have super hype releases and the pokemon don't have to be overpowered.

  • @goldleafsnivy6304

While it is kinda weird that the recent releases have been kinda mid, I think its better that they release this way cuz all of them only needed a few changes to be good. Compare that to the Mewtwos and Zacian, who needed multiple nerfs over multiple months just to give the entire roster a fighting chance (and they're still top tier strong, mind you)
But I have not had much hype with new releases as I did in the first 1 1/2 years of Unite's lifespan. The only ones that really excited me last year were Chandelure and Mimikyu. And I think a huge reason why is that the new releases have all been pretty popular Pokémon. The only release that felt out of left field for me was Comfey, and even then it was a pretty obvious pick for a Supporter.
Metagross and Meowscarada I can forgive cuz Meowscarada is the first gen 9 mon in the game so it has to be a good one and Metagross was probably supposed to release earlier, given the way its moves work and its leveling is kinda bugged to be like the old Garchomp, Mamoswine and Gardevoir who evolved at 6 and 10.
And as funny as flopping around as Magikarp is and as cool as having more playable aquatic/fish Pokémon is, I have no hype for Gyarados whatsoever. It's moves and animations look too clunky, there will be just as many All-Rounders as Attackers when it releases (which is extra bad cuz at least most Attackers have more distinct playstyles as opposed to All-Rounders who all have slightly different flavors of brawling) and to me it seems like they added it just for the sake of popularity.
I hope they go back to their earlier days of new releases, with a healthy mix of popular and unpopular Pokémon. Cuz I feel the most hype for a new release when an underdog finally gets their chance to shine. Dodrio is not one of my favorite Pokémon in the slightest, but I was very hyped for its inclusion, moreso than pretty much the entirety of 2023's releases. Give me more of the underdogs, please.

It's good to have a meta. I think the release should be strong so people are tempted to buy HOWEVER the kit shouldn't be something as simple as a pressing like in case of mewtwo. Moves should be comboable like lucario for example. If they want simple kits like a pressing and sure hit then the pokemon at release should be slightly strong than rest of the Pokemons but not broken if it doesn't have complex kit. Zoroark dodrio for example are strong but rightfully so.

Its crazy how quickly Blaziken, Mimi and Moew got buffed after release vs how long it took Mew2 and Zacian to get nerfed. Clearly they dont know what power level they want the EX pokemon to be at, as those are the only 3 releases this year that were game breaking. Yes Lapras and Umbreon were op, but if everything released at that powerlevel and then got nerfed as quickly as Meow got buffed, i think we would be in a wonderful place.

Make a pokemon many people may be excited about, a legendary or mythical or something with as much hype as Swampert/Metagross (I don’t think anything outside of a legendary compares to magikarp)… and make it a pretty-good such hit. Like Espeon’s future sight/stored power build. I think that will start brining us back to normal. Because Mimikyu is very skill based, BUT if you’re good at it, then you take over the entire game despite lagging 2-3 levels behind the enemy. We need something pretty good, but with assurance - not MewTwo X/Y level’s of power. Maybe if a machamp/lucario-type had sure-hitting?

Metas in Unite work in cycles where certain Pokemon are given the spotlight before being nerfed back into relative obscurity to allow for another to be spotlighted. We're seeing this right now with Dragapult and one day that Pokemon will be nerfed to make way for another. In the first year of the game, we became accustomed to having the new release immediately receive the spotlight treatment and now that that’s no longer the case releases feel especially lackluster. Unfortunately, the developers dialed up the spotlighting on Mewtwo and Zacian to such an extent that having one became pretty much necessary to win instead of showcasing what they add to the game. I think the balance the developers need to strike with new releases is having them arrive powerful enough to showcase their abilities, like how Dragapult is now or how Duraludon felt on release, without punishing teams that haven't selected the new release.

My take here is that the Pokemon are inherently never meh (mostly) but PU has set a standard so high with gimmicky Pokemon (like mew and Mewtwo, even mimikyu) and with broken releases (Duraludon, Slyveon, Zacian, Mewtwo) that the player base has become accustomed to accepting broken release as the norm which then leads to Pokemon like Mowskarada, Scizor, and Confey kinda fall behind. PU does it's best at reviving old Pokemon to keep the meta turning like when Gengar and Mr Mime got series of biffs while Pokemon like Slyvone were nerfed over the weekend. I think the current trend will hold to be more stable considering the ESport aspect of it accompanied by the PTS which is a good way to include players into the decision-making process. The current meta is perfect and should not change, people will eventually lower their standards after a few releases. That's my opinion

I agree, imo the most underwhelming releases in 2023 were(in order) Comfey, Goodra, Blaziken, Meowscarada, and Blaziken. It’s mostly because of one reason though, zacian/mewtwo, we’ve gotten great balance patches, but they let mewtwo roam too long and made this sort of standard for us, if it’s not mewtwo or zacian we don’t like it. Balance is better than broken releases. In my opinion good ways of creating hype and maintaining balance at the same time would be releasing pokemon, that somehow change the game or just play differently than others. Ofcourse this is a lot to ask, since from developer perspective it is harder to create such pokemon. But for example Blaziken was awesome release from that perspective: it was balanced, but offered totally different kind of game play mechanic that almost felt like playing some sort of beat em up game. Awesome for fighting type pokemon. In a way megas had different mechanic too, but were released just plain broken, but idea behind them were good. Gyarados seems to have similar new kind of mechanic and I am looking forward to it.

I agree that underwhelming/balanced releases are way better for the community, though, Unite has to make money somehow. My 2 cents would be to focus on marketing.
    - Do a few more crossovers with other games (i.e. Scarlet and Violet released a DLC this year, there could have been a crossover there).
    - Forget the gem lock for releases and do Holowear exclusives
    - Do more videos (like the one they did for Meowscarada)
    - Maybe Holowear crossovers with other franchises
    - Shinies or ability to shiny hunt lol maybe like a holowear slotmachine that makes your mon shiny.

The greatest irony of all these releases is that this is what they promised to do: use the PTS to balance mons before release, so that they're not broken. Especially after the Mewtwo Y disaster, they've been trying to make amends to the community which had to endure that meta by releasing relatively balanced mons, and using hotfixes to buff/nerf them immediately. Tbh, I don't mind this, because it means they care about the game, and not their monetization. Even if the devs can't speak to us, it feels like they're at least trying.
I'm really looking forward to this year. It seems like they're planning something big, which pokemon day has been hinting continuously. In addition, with the seasonal changes (ranked getting EX banned AND Remoat being brought to rotation), alongside gyarados's release, things are looking at least interesting for the filler until THE BIG UPDATE that we seem to be getting.

I don't even consider playing a new Pokémon until about a month after its release - or basically after it gets a buff / nerf.
The main reason is the Gem release practice. I don't support releasing a Pokémon for cash currency only for a week, and so I decidedly ignore the new Pokémon as my personal protest.
Secondly, I don't want to have to get the feel of a new Pokémon that's just going to change in a week or two; I'd rather have my first experience with a Pokémon be when it has settled (even just a little bit) closer to its final form. To this day I have never played the ridiculous mess that was Water Bear because it was obvious that its zero cd flux zone dive style wasn't going to last - so why even bother?
I much prefer weaker releases, therefore, because it means I don't have to deal with an unbalanced OP Godmon for a couple weeks until Timi gets their heads out from where the sun don't shine.

I think for one, making them accessible to everyone on release would improve the hype considerably. If they want to generate money, all they need to do is to keep releasing new Pokémon with Holowear like they've been doing..
Personally for me, I'm tired of all the popular Pokémon they've been adding. Aside from Comfey, everything released this year has been generally popular among Pokémon fans already. 2 Legendaries, 2 Eeveelutions, 2 Psuedo-Legendaries, 3 Starters. Mimimkyu is one of the most popular Pokémon of all time, Chandelure is arguably the most popular Gen 5 Pokemon. And whilst I have enjoyed Chandelure and Leafeon, everything else has ranged from meh to complete disinterest.
I've been much more interested in additions to the roster that I hadn't expected, unpopular Pokémom that we don't see that much of anywhere. Mamoswine and Dodrio were extremely pleasant surprises that I actually really enjoy playing.
We'll be getting Gyarados soon and then Miraidon sometime after that and like I kinda just don't care. I think they are both cool but like, I've seen plenty from both in other Pokémon games and material that, I know what they're gonna be like in game and what they'll do and I just don't care.
There were leaks for Tropius and Falinks some time back, what about them? I'd be excited as hell for those two, I don't even know what role Tropius could be and that is super exciting! It also gives a second chance to Pokémon who kinda missed the mark in the main series by being mediocre or underwhelming to the point they faded into obscurity. Like who was talking about Dodrio or Greedent or Crustle before Unite? I wanna see more Pokémon like this because there's an element of surprise to their release and they get to try something interesting with them. "Gee, I wonder what role Gyarados will be? I wonder what playstyle Blaziken will have?" Its so uninteresting to me.
I know I don't speak for everyone, and I think releasing popular Pokémon is necessary to keep the game relevant but is there not allowed to be a balance? Deadass, I would take weird, random lil guys like Spinda, Maractus or Orbeetle over every release we've had since Mewtwo. Maybe that way the game wouldn't be so overflowed with Attackers and All-Rounders too, which may even be another issue. Wont go into that tho, this comment is long enough.
    TL;DR
    - Make Pokémon available for the first week with Coins and Gems so everyone can play new releases.
    - Dial down on releasing popular/noteworthy Pokémon.
    - Add variety to the mix by adding Pokémon with roles that aren't just Attacker or All-Rounder

I was just merely excited over Meow releasing because it's one of my favourite Pokemon, and since we're not plagued by the ever broken Mewtwos, I can play without the fear of encountering one of them and getting ripped on the spot. I prefer the meh releases, because it gives the rest of the community who don't have a way to get the PTS/haven't gotten the PTS yet a say as to what needs tuning up. People said Meow and Blaziken were weak, and they got buffed.
I must give my concerns to that of power creep still being a factor however, since there's a lot of new releases that make the old ones less relevant (Example: I feel that Sylveon, for instance, is a little underwhelming compared to other Eeveelutions; or that Cinderace is being outdone by others that do its job better). If they're going to tune up the newer 'mons, they're much better balancing the game and making older ones better because they're vastly inferior to the new releases - at least, that's how I see things.

I would only add an additional point... new pokemons releases have been actually great... just people is lazy to master them, people want to go directly on rank matches without dominating a pokemon... so unite gives them a buff in order to sell new releases...i would suggest that before being able to rank match with any pokemon, people have to complete either standard or Quick matches, lets say a 100
