Oh my god thanks my mum is struggling with money just now and we just got a new house and my room is almost done and she got me a lava lamp and I wanted to see what was at the bottom of it and stupidly I turned it upside down and then the wax did that. So I thought that I would have to go and tell her that its broke but before I did I went on google and searched how to fix it and I found this video thanks alot👍your video saved me.

I honestly don't understand why there is this persistent myth that one can ruin a lava lamp by shaking the contents vigorously when it's hot. I owed lava lamps for 2 decades and shaking it up then waiting 2-3 days for the contents to slowly settle is what restores the stagnant lava flow. However, - a permanent solution is to install a dimmer switch and turn lamp's brightness down a few notches. This will make sure the wax isn't overcooked and help the lamp look far more "psychedelic" with wax breaking up into 2-3 large, slowly moving blobs, not 10-12 small, fast moving ones. This will also make your lava lamp last DECADES despite being on 24/7 and also extend the bulb's life 5-10 times (yes really, there is a reason for this which I won't get into right now). I had dimmer switches installed in my lamps. One is still with me 25 years later, and it was always on 85% of this whole time.

I found the easiest method to solve issues with these lamps is to get a higher wattage bulb and a dimmer. When it needs it, crank up the dimmer forcing more heat into the lamp and once it's sufficiently warm I can then lower it to my prefered setting. A dimmer also helps if you want to use the lamp both in the summer and winter since the ambient temperature of the room will have a large effect on the lamp. The dimmer allows you to dial in exactly what the lamp wants to flow smoothly. My 40W lamp has a 60W lamp that I run anywhere from 35W-50W depending on the room temperature.

Hello, it’s still working perfectly. This happened when the lamp was relatively new so the lamp looks to be giving the right amount of heat. There are some good tips at the following website: lavalamp.com/faq/
Me guessing, if the light bulb is old, I would consider replacing and try after everything is cool and settled at the bottom

No it cannot. Not with a blow dryer, well, only if you pulled the lamp out of your freezer before that, lol. The glass on lava lamps is thick enough to withstand that, to actually break it, you'd have to leave it on a stove or something extreme like that...

An easy way to do this without a hair dryer is wrap a dry wash cloth over it (use a rubber band to hold it on) it will raise the temperature a little higher then normal and boom. Alway monitor it and do not leave it unattended. It can cause a fire so keep an extinguisher handy. Do it outside. (The warmer the weather the better)

I would get it warmed up with the lamp, and apply more heat towards the top with the blower. It should all come down (my hypothesis).

Hello, if you use the blower on it and it’s overheated, it will stay on the bottom. The lava lamp has to have a hot bottom with a cooler top in order for the lava effect to take place (I believe)

Before anything, if you still have the receipt, try to trade it for a new one! If not, here’s my recommendation:
What I would do is test the electrical current using a multimeter where the bulb screws into. If you know someone who’s handy, I’d ask him/her to do that. My suspicion is the in-line light switch may be defective. If the test is good and there is current with the switch, that you may need another light bulb (make sure it’s not a dimmable bulb and it is recommended for the lava lamp). If the test comes out negative, then I would replace the in-line light switch. That can be a $2-$3 fix , they sell the switches at Lowe’s.

    Dont bother blow drying it,
    1. You can burn out your hair dryer if you do this for too long,
    And 2. Fuck the noise.
If you turn it on, and put it in front of a space heater for about a half hour, it’ll be fixed and working again faster than it normally starts up, no noise required and it hotter so it obviously works better lol
