- If you guys would like more info as to how I did this. Please contact me, I am happy to share with you. I did try to film the process but, did not get there. So, here is the results with a explanation.
very nice lamp!
I've got a really old one that could use an overhaul, it's REALLY slow getting warmed up.
Let me know if you need some help. Or if you want to ship it to me, I am happy to help. This is the ONLY correct video on TH-cam about restoring these guys:th-cam.com/video/16gB2BDXwTo/w-d-xo.html
I bought one of them from rock of ages in 1985...hours spent listening to RUSH in mom's basement..with a miniature light show
AWESOME!!!!! That place is still rolling! Thank God! They have a KILLER selection of CD's too
Have a happy and blessed New Year!
“Ya leave that muther fucker alone.” Words for all of us to live by.
I dropped mine on the floor of my garage.. what a mess.... Happy New Year!
NOOOOOO!!!!!! That sucks! Yeah, this little lamp has traveled ALL OVER the place with me. I am REALLY glad and REALLY happy to have it like new again!
@@DetroitWrecker666 If I ever see one I'm grabbing it... going to look online for one..
@@EdDanaGuitar yeah, ya know I said in the video it's 30 years old. But the more I think about it.... It's probably more like 40 years old or better. Because I was like 10 or 12 years old when I got it. And the kid that had it before me probably had it at least 5 years, maybe 10. I don't know where the years go!
You can still buy them. Mathmos is still making them.
Happy New Year!
Thats cool as hell !!!
I'm SO HAPPY it works again!
Happy New Year to you Wrecker !!!
My lamp is a 24 yr old goes good with the black light and strobe haaa
Ha! I was just getting around to putting one of my strobe lights back in the bedroom. For those freaky deaky moments!
Awesome little piece!
I’m about to do this with my big lava lamp except I’ll keep the original wax. It’s the Grande size if you’re familiar, so probably 3 times this size. When you add the dish soap, think I should do one drop or more because it’s a bigger lamp?
One drop at a time, until it starts to flow. It's a really slow process.
How did you dye the wax? I added red dye when it was liquefied and the color is just laying on bottom. Thanks!
You have to add the dye when you melt the wax in a double boiler.
Epsom salts or any type of salt will corrode the coil. Use Glycerine or Proplene Glycol instead.
Glycerine gives a fantastic serpentine flow.
Where do I get Glycerine?

Ebay

How did you get the cap off? Does is unscrew? I'm afraid I'll break it. Thanks
Yes, they unscrew
Did you get yours restored?
I need new wax for my 40 yr old lamp. Do you have a recipe? Thank you!
I explained it the best way I know how in the video.
You did, I think I must have seen another one of your videos because I knew you had explained it, I just couldn't find THAT video. Whatever, I got it now and Im trying this because every other video is not at all what I need. Wish me luck! Thanks
@@traceyreed3156 Go slowly with each step
That's an excellent lamp. Great work.
Thank you! I'm still working on mastering the process. But this is as close as I could come.
Great job on that motherf*cker! :-)
I want to refurbish my old lava lamp too but I don't even know how to properly open and re-close the glass bulb. Would you make a video showing how you did that?
I can do that.
Thanks a lot! ...although I've done a bit more research over the day and learned that because mine is a bottle cap type closure, I would need something like a professional quality "capper" to close it up again so I'll probably just have to look for a new bottle instead.
@@_FightForYourFreedom_ just crimp the cap back on. That's all you have to do.
I'm not great at stuff like that but I might give it a try. Thinking about it. Thank you :-)
Thats COOL!
Happy New Year DW
That glass is horrible. Id have got a new bottle.
It's from the 1970's. Why would I replace it.
Happy New Year!
