Thank you for addressing this! Weight distribution is such an important part of skating. I've found myself stuck with exercises so often just to then figure out that all it took was shifting my weight elsewhere! Works like magic!

100% agree. Often, using the wrong part of the blade during a move is all it takes to have an accident and end up hurting yourself!

@@IceCoachOnline That and also having the wrong skates or the wrong grade of (not-so-)sharp blades. 🤣 Rather shocking difference, really, for a beginner. Can you maybe make a video on "How to know your blades need sharpening". It seems so simple but especially beginners have no comparison. And when you only have one place to go and they do a bad job, then you don't learn "good" either and just keep thinking yourself stupid and incapable! I did that for a whole season ////orz//// If not for a coach once pointing out I might need to fix that, I'd have gone on and on!

Wow those are the most beautiful crossovers I’ve ever seen.

Technical, woohoo, I just love it when you get detailed and technical.
I feel more confident learning a skill, knowing the technical aspects of it. It can feel like concentrating on technique makes a steep learning curve, so that initial stage might be slightly more tricky, slow, laborious. I'm grateful as once over that hump, understanding the theory and practicing correct technique from the off means individual moves will look better, more polished and professional.
Furthermore, theory and technique is invaluable for freestyling, and conceptualising choreography. (*nerd* *nerd* *nerd* alert lol)

O-O you just helped me solve why I can’t do my crossovers properly...I can’t wait to try this on the ice and see the difference! Thank you

also me: let's watch how to do some moves you won't be able to pull of for the next century

This video was so helpful! I never even considered how I did my crossovers till now. Whenever I would try crossover on rollerblades or on ice, they would always be super short, and shaky almost. I’m sure it’s due to the fact that I’m a very forward leaning skater 😂😅

Thank you! I was working on crossovers today actually (on wheels). Would you say that for backward crossovers, then, that you keep weight on the forward end of the blade? I've just started being able to do backward crossovers, and I am still struggling even skating backwards. It's great to hear the breakdown that backwards should be on the front of the blade.

My answer is way too late lmao but as long as you don’t drag ur toepick into the ice when going backwards you’re probably doing it right

I am interested in your zoom lessons. What kind of session should I book for and for how long of a session will it take to evaluate where I'm at, learning my history with skating, understanding my goals in the sport and make a game plan on achieving those goals? I am very excited you have this available because my local figure skating coaches are not working out.

    • @IceCoachOnline

Hey, sorry to hear you local coaches aren't working out. My recommendation would be to do a 30 minute private lesson to evaluate everything and give you our recommendations moving forwards. Feel free to email us at team@icecoachonline.com as youtube comments can be easily missed!

Happy to hear you're enjoying the content. I can look at doing something for backward crossovers in the future. The list of content I plan to create never stops growing 😅

I video myself the way i do stroking, forward/backward crossover, my pushing leg always bend, even though i feel it straight, but actually still bend :( Wonder is it related to this weight shifting?

@@slipperyhardandcold7740 I´m having my Beta test in 2 weeks and I really and having trouble getting speed while gliding back. My toepick catches the ice and slows me down. That is what failed me when I did my beta test last month. So I am researching on tips!

@@emitty5469 I'm not a coach (I did send some tentative suggestions to WaltzJumps a couple days ago after watching one of her videos). Obviously you need to work on getting your weight back off your toepicks, but do it gradually and carefully. I hope you have a coach or at least someone who can watch you and make suggestions.

@@emitty5469 This coach does have a video on backwards crossovers. He also says in the description of this video that in general backwards skating should be done on the forward part of the blade (but not on the toepicks). As he also mentions, different coaches have different ideas.
