    The singer is Dianne van Giersbergen, a fully trained classical singer. As one of the few of those Dutch amazing vocalistst Dianne can call herself a real opera singer also. She founded a band called Exlibris years back. She fronted German band Xandria from 2014 till 2017 and sang on the 2 last albums. She was already their third singer, so Xandria does have a problem holding their singers. Dianne picked up her Exlibris band again and released a trilogy about three historical figures...all called Ann...chapter 1: Anne Boleyn , chapter 2 : Anastasia Romanova and chapter 3: Anne Frank..highly recommend to listen to this Ann album, she uses her voice in a different manner including some real opera stuff..glad you found this lady, she is an amazing singer in the dutch list: Floor, Simone, Anneke, Sharon, Charlotte an Dianne in random order....

    Dianne sounds absolutely AMAZING live! I saw them in Seattle performing in a rather small nightclub to a "crowd" of about 50 people (whoever promoted their NA tour did a poor job - barely anyone showed up), but they played extremely well and sounded terrific. Totally worth the 4-hour drive from Canada! We also had the chance to meet the band before the show, and they were very nice to the fans. Dianne is insanely charming in person.

      Actually, Dianne was one of the founding members of Ex Libris already in 2004. She joined Xandria in 2013 & left in 2017. So Ex Libris is Dianne's old band, not her new one.

    Dianne is probably one the best IF NOT the best operistic singers in metal nowadays. She's actually a professional opera singer and the only one i can think who can rival her quality in the genre is Laura Macri from MaYan (Epica's Mark Jansen side project)

    People have already commented on it, but Xandria has gone through a few vocalists. I discovered the band in my journey through Symphonic metal when I was a teenager, so when it was Lisa Middelhauve on vocals.
    I love her mezzo voice and the softness of her tone. Stand-outs from her era, to me (so veeeery personal opinion, lol): Snow White, India, Vampire, Salomé and Sisters of the Light (let's not forget Like a Rose on the Grave of Love, so pretty

    Still miss the original singer, Lisa Middelhauve. She had a very unique voice that made this band something special. She even did her own grunts on her last album. Since she's gone they had even more new/other singers than Nightwish, they never really recovered from that. Back in the days i liked that they didn't have an operatic singer and still made really good Symphonic Metal. After Lisa they just became the 98th Nightwish Clone...

    • @nimedhel09
      @nimedhel09 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with what you're saying about the band trying to emulate Nightwish later on and Lisa having a unique voice. I really loved her era :o So many good songs. Sure, the songs weren't as polished and all that, but there was something about that era that was compelling. I watched the live (I don't remember where) they did in 2007 like a thousand times and watching Lisa growl live was an experience (it was also the first time I saw a female singer that did mainly clean vocals growling, and it stuck with me lol)

    I was gutted that she had to leave the band. Their last album with her, “Theatre of Dimensions” is a once in a lifetime amazing tour de force. While she does have Ex Libris, Xandria is way more my style. So, “Call of Destiny” was a video single from that album, but the opening track, “Where the Heart is Home”, is, in my opinion, one of the best songs ever made.

    I saw Dianne live only twice, unfortunately. And that was with Ex Libris, not Xandria. Xandria is changing its singers like dirty socks. It just does not work to have somebody who sings classically or normally, but difficult parts, and want them to perform every second day (or every day). It is not an instrument that you can just change when it breaks. And to push a great vocalist like Dianne past her breaking point is really stupid. It is not somebody who can be easily replaced. You have been already given more than enough information about her by others. She is one of the few who really studied classical singing at a conservatory. Other two would be Tarja and Laura Macri from MaYaN - Mark Jansen´s side project.
    I saw you reacted to The Arms of the Ocean by Blackbriar a couple of days ago. Here is probably the best quality live recording of this particular song from a concert - th-cam.com/video/o7VNpG0SPkA/w-d-xo.html there are some other recordings of their songs with better quality, but not this one

    The vocalist is Dianne van Giersbergen. I would say she is more a mixture of Tarja and Floor. She displays a lot of operatic style to her vocals. From what I've seen, she is very good live too. I think Xandria made a big mistake by cutting her, but I guess that wouldn't be the first time a band cut a great vocalist. Perhaps you could try "Blood On My Hands" - live --> th-cam.com/video/Zc94Ssm5vas/w-d-xo.html or "Stardust" - live -->.th-cam.com/video/nJVCN-YA2zY/w-d-xo.html. Xandria seems to have problems keeping vocalists (6 of them!!)...not sure what the problem is, but their music is pretty decent from what I've heard from them. The singer on this album is the incredible Diane Van Giersbergen (no relation to Anneke)...another Dutch goddess! She is the 5th singer but now sings for Ex Libris (symphonic/gothic metal from The Netherlands). Problem is the same as with Nightwish and Sirenia, its a man's world and they are treating the women like shit, not taking into consideration their needs and wants, always pressuring to tour endlessly to the point of exacerbating the sanity of their singers. I know this for a fact, have had this discussion with many women in metal, including a friend who is the singer of a quite known medium-sized band. The woman is always overruled by the majority of men in the band, some people argue that it is a fair system, but I think its counterproductive especially when you centre yourself as a band fronted by a woman, its only logical that you work to maintain their health and energy. This is why many singers like Aylin, Liv, Dianne, Manuella and Tarja either left or were fired.

    If you think this was good, you really should listen to Dianne van Giersbergen with her progressive metal band "Ex Libris" as I've suggested weeks ago. While studying for her master degree, Dianne perfected her techniques to have classical music intermingle with metal music. Her master’s thesis deals with the vocal techniques and the compositional demands required to blend these styles and with the merging of protocol and free performance in this crossover style. Floor Jansen was one of those people that inspected Dianne's thesis & approved it.
    P.S. To at least partially answer your question whether Dianne sounds good live, this is a quote from Wikipedia: "Giersbergen's vocals and delivery can pull in the audience, according to a review in Mindbreed. Reviewer Eric May in 2013 in New Noise magazine described her as a "sultry siren" and wrote that there was "something majestically powerful in her mesmerizing vocal harmonies." Another reviewer described her vocals as "breathtaking" with great personality, charisma and charm."
