  • Hey everyone! We’re almost to 5k! Please like and subscribe if you’re enjoying the reactions/analysis!
Thank you so much for all the comments and requests. I'm really excited to continue further into Dimash territory. I decided I wanted to use him as a technical case study/analysis (because watching him work is not only fun, but I feel like I can also learn a lot from his technique) and I'm trying to go chronologically. Please help out if you can on which video comes next timeline-wise!
Thanks so much for watching! Please remember to like and subscribe- there's more reactions coming soon!
    -Angel
ps- there was a moment where I mentioned him using his classical tenor technique and not a pop belt- I just want to clarify for fellow pedagogy nerds: I am talking about the buccal opening (mouth aperture) being smaller than it is in belt, and the space I refer to as "in the back" is pharyngeal space- specifically nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal. Thanks!

When this song finished, his father surprises him. Backstage Dimash asked his father, if he was good, and his father said yes. Dimash was so happy like a little boy. I asked myself, how it's possible, that he didn't knew, how good he was. 😂😂
Love your reaction. Don't miss to watch other performances of him. He will surprise you every time.

Yes!! That's why I'm so mad if anyone underestimates him by saying that he has had it easy or that his technique sucks! 😡😡
Dimash has worked his butt off since 5 years old!! Even now he never skips practise! He's training every single freakin day!! Because he loves singing, his life is dedicated for music! It's his whole life! That's why he hones his skills in singing! "Blood, sweat and tears" is correct! You really get him! 😭😭
Only fellow singers, musicians and coaches can appreciate him fully! Thank you so much!! 🤗🤗

As hard as it might be to believe, I think that Dimash has many surprises in store for you. Every time you think "ok yeah, that's his peak as a vocalist" he is going to come out with a "hold my beer" moment.
It's not an exaggeration to say that Dimash isn't just a once in a lifetime talent, but quite probably a once-in-ever talent. He is a perfect storm of natural biological gift, insane amounts of training and very musical ears. He has the vocal technician requirements, but it doesn't dominate his songs - the soul is still there, the emotion. Everything he sings feels natural, as if he were simply speaking in conversation or telling a story to a good friend.
I wouldn't even consider myself a "fan" of opera or classical music. It's not on my daily playlists - but every time Dimash sings, I can't help but notice his sheer talent. At times it does feel alien/inhuman.
Something a lot of reactors overlook, even vocal coaches, is his ability to just switch registers at will without losing tonal quality. He can be doing an E6 whistle note, then drop right back down into baritone and sound like nothing happened.
All I can say is that I hope his vocal cords are insured. I can't even imagine what they'd be "worth" in that sense, because it's hard to put a number on something so one-of-a-kind. He's still so young, so I hope that he is able to maintain his longevity.

  • @opterios
    @opterios 4 ปีที่แล้ว +343

Indeed, going thought more Dimash performances as a kind of training series is a very appropriate thing to do for a vocal education channel (and it will really be worth your while, as Dimash is indeed a case-study), but I'm not sure that following his performances chronilogically is ideal. Opera 2 is fine as a second song after SOS, it's very interesting vocally and entertaining at the same time. But there are more recent performances of some of the songs he performed on the "Singer 2017" that are even better, so by only focusing on the Singer show for the 8-9 performances or so that he has done, you will be missing some better versions for some of these songs, like Daybreak and the Diva Dance, where his Bastau concert performances are better than those on Singer by a mile!!
Also, some other iconic songs that are really among Dimash's best performances from 2018 and 2019, like "Ogni Pietra" and "Sinful Passion" were not performed on Singer, so it actually might take you quite a while until you make a video about these ones, which are "must-see".
If I may offer an alternative approach, I would suggest to collect the requests from the comments section and sort them by popularity. In general, the "unicorn" effect of Dimash's performances is somewhat represented by the requests' popularity.
One more thing that deserves your attention is to correctly choose the versions of the songs. For his performances on the Singer 2017, there is Gloria Wu's channel, where she has provided subtitles and backstories for each song. It's very helpful. For other songs, you should do a quick research for each one for which version to watch. For instance, for Ogni Pietra most fans request the fancam video, because Dimash's face and technique are visible up close all the time, but the sound is bad, so there is this brilliant video from a Dimash fan who has combined the official video with the HD sound along with the fancam video, so it has the best from both worlds.
And whatever you do, stay away from "The World's Best" performances of him, the production there was not good, it's not worth your while! :)
I hope this helps. Well done on deciding to do a Dimash series. He is a pioneer and innovator in singing and he is well worth the focus of a professional such as yourself!!

I can't agree more with you, but in the same time, I saw him on singer back in 2017/2018 I've become Dimash dear and then I've become Dimash clan or tribe so to speak it's crucial for singer to see the changing and experience he got through time I know that he is genius but now he is more in comparison to first time we encounter him since the Singer. I know I loved him on The Singer but for instance Hello on singer 2018 as a guest it was another level and then Sinful passion which then led to work with the greatest composer of our time Igor Kurtoy with Lover of Tired swine and then sure Lover is like dream which is was another level with his bass voice and soprano, Know with all his great middle est melisma and the pumping and exciting song Onig Pitera , Passione and last but not least His Troi with Aida Suprano Goddess and his Idol and for every passionate singer Idol sure Lara Fabian. Sorry for taking me much to explain my thought what is good to go chronologically what we have noticed he is still exploring as he said that has a range and what he can do in each song. you know what this means that with each of his songs he gains something to learn from it and build-up to next point or this is what as I saw and learn from him in his career since 2017 up to now.

    • @pupdiddy9685

I say do it in order from the Singer. You can and should also do his different performances of the same song as some are so totally different Dimash likes to change things up and improve. Most of us Dears started watching Singer 2017 and in order mainly . Then when you think you've heard it all it keeps getting better and better and mind blowing almost. Don't let everyone talk you into doing more recent just because it's their favorite song. You'll get a ton of suggestions but honestly you will want to start from the beginning. Yes it's true about the Worlds Best Performance where they chopped up his song and basically messed with him , but in the end Dimash showed the world what a true honorable person he is . I'm sure you'll find out about it. The performance is good it's just that they cut out so much of it. But all the songs you'll hear in the Singer and beyond . Dimash will take you on a trip of a lifetime so take your time and enjoy it !

    • @Pegasus209
      @Pegasus209 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I understand your desire for jumping to more recent performances, but just as Dimash has honed his skills since Singer 2017, it should be witnessed chronologically. Fine wines are not meant to be gulped. I will agree, Daybreak and Diva Dance aren't his best, and Bastau blows them out of the water. Considering he had to have throat injections just to perform Daybreak and Diva Dance immediately followed a full operatic Confessa, I gave him a pass on both. There are still some amazing performances to see on S17, including a couple of my favorites, Autumn Strong and Adagio. Just my opinion...

Well said! But it's up to you how you would like to proceed.
In terms of performances on Singer in 2017, here are the ones to check out: "Show must go on" (Week 3), "Late Autumn" (Week 4; use the video with background from Gloria Wu's channel), "Adagio" (Week 6; one of his most spectacular performances), "Daididau" (Week 7, a Kazakh folk song), "Daybreak" (Week 8; Dimash was sick, and he sings a much improved version at his 2017 Bastau concert - on his channel), "All by myself" (Week 9), "Unforgettable day" (Week 10; he composed this himself; you should watch the version at his Gakku concert in 2017 where he hits that famous D8), and "Confessa + Diva dance" (Week 12; also check out the full performance of Diva Dance at his Bastau 2017 concert).

He then performed a great version of Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" as a guest on Singer in 2018. After that, you should watch Olimpico at Arnau, Passione-New Wave, Know, Love is like a dream, Sinful passion, etc...the list of his more recent performances goes on!

So, to explain why Ogni Pietra is really being recommended, the song was written for him to sing at the Olympics, and makes use of his incredible range from very low baritone notes right up to the super high notes. And he sings the entire thing in operatic technique.

Speaking of age, the transformation that fascinates me is Leonard Cohen's. In his 80s, singing "Slow" his voice is so deep and so much weaker up high than singing "Marianne" decades earlier, it doesn't sound like the same person. Is that entirely explained by his smoking, or maybe steroids to keep him well while touring round the world so old, or is that a normal course of the human voice by that age?

The ones who hate him and hate reacting to him (eventually they stop doing so), and those who say that Dimash makes them feel like going to practice. Thank you for your elaborate reaction! It was very interesting to me as a person who knows very little about singing, to hear your comparisons of singing this high to arranging a puzzle while running or making a violin and playing it at the same time. Also I liked very much that you pointed out the importance of hard work vs talent. I get upset when I hear "alien", "not normal", as if he has just been born this way. For me this diminishes his accomplishment.
You asked in what order to continue with Dimash. If you follow his performances from "I am a Singer", they are all amazing. You may do a video of one and the same song in different performances - like Daididau or Daybreak from Singer and Bastau, and especially The Diva Dance - from Singer, Bastau and the Chinese Spring Gala 2020, where he sings in a duet with another opera singer.
Dimash has very beautiful lyrical songs with wonderful lyrics, which are not mentioned so often. You may check them out, too - Kusni Korlan, Give me love, Karagim-Ay, Karatorgay, My Swan, I miss you, Aykaragoz - Ft. Alisher, Don't Make Me Dream, Just let it be, Couldn't leave, If I never breathe again.

"It's nice just to watch him?" she says so innocently. Oh Angel. You have so much to come. "Ogni Pietra" aka "Olympico" is often the next stop on the tour. It's very operatic, and he recently won best classical vocal for it in the 2019 Russian Victoria Music Awards. Watch the real mic feed, not the fancam.
    th-cam.com/video/dkPS6t84qg4/w-d-xo.html
If you want real opera, though, here he is with Aida Garifullina on what is probably my favorite, "Ulysse". Again, there are fancams with better video for those of us who like to watch him and his, you know, mouth shape and everything, but this is the mic feed audio. And yes, the high last note is him, not Aida.

Dimash classical Baritone voice is quite average. He's a pop/k-pop singer and on a real classical stage his voice won't last longer than a few minutes. Just a reality check.

    • @suzannamoran1066

Opera was his path not taken. He declined a professional opera position years ago to pursue pop. So he very well may not have three hours worth of opera chops at this time. We will likely never know. But a k-pop singer? That's a really odd assertion. Not exactly an insult, as there are some decent k-pop singers, but that's so not his wheelhouse. Weird.

Really nice, and very goodinformed reaction! And thank you thank you, thank you for emphasizing the sheer labor day went into this voice! People seem to think that he basically sprang fully formed onto the world stage with an 'alien' voice and maybe a few lessons. In fact, he has put in more training time than a neurosurgeon or an Olympic athlete. Dimash's classical training seems to be the foundation of his ability to fully exploit the extraordinary vocal potential he inherited. His S.O.S performance at Slavic Bazaar is more classically styled, and he was in 'better God's, although I still like the Singer performance more for its energy and immediacy. For songs with a classical bent, a chronological progression is S.O.S. (Singer 2017), Diva Dance (Singer 2017), S.O.S. (Slavic Bazaar 2018), Diva Dance (Bastau 2018), Passione (New Wave 2019), and Olyimpco/Ogni Pietra (Arnau 2019 -- the concert version has better sound than the more-viewed fancam version). Olympico won Dimash Russia's Classical Singer of the Year. Incidentally, there are a few brief clips scattered about of Dimash idly singing La Donna e Mobile and Der Hoelle Rache, sort of passing time while 'off-duty', both of which I'd love to hear him perform!

Nice reaction to Dimash singing Opera 2.
Early songs and performances by Dimash were Körkemim (My Beauty) and Opyat Metel (Blizzard Again) in 2016.
He did perform the following songs on the Singer 2017 in China: SOS, Opera 2, The Show Must Go On, Autumn Strong, All by Myself, Adagio, Daididau, Unforgettable Day, Daybreak, Confessa and the Diva Dance, A Tribute to MJ, Give me Love. Each song is different.
He did perform Hello (Lionel Richie cover) as a guest in 2018 on The Singer and he did a Queen Medley with the Super Vocal Boys.
He did perform Sinful Passion in 2018 as well.
He is collaborating with Igor Krutoy a Russian Composer who wrote a few songs for Dimash: Mademoiselle Hyde, Know, Ogni Pietra (Every Stone), Passione. He did other Igor Krutoy classics: Love is Like a Dream and Love of Tired Swans.
He did sing songs with various artists. Belovezhskaya Pushcha (Nagima Eskalieva), Earth Song (Viktor Ma), Jasmin (Tengri), Ti Amo Cosi (Lara Fabian and Aida Garifulina), Ulysse (Aida Garifullina).
I thought it was worth a try to put some Dimash classics in a kind of time line.
You will be blown away. Looking forward to your next reaction. Greetings from Amsterdam.

It's awesome that you point out just how much plain old WORK it takes to achieve the technical excellence Dimash has.

Apart from all advices I would recommend to listen to kazaq songs. Where he doesn't show off, but just smoothes with his warmth and tenderness. Plus, I would like to add, each song has its time. So, I have a request. I now you said you wanted to continue on the Dimash journey (which would probably be the Singer journey you are currently on, so "The Show Must Go On" would be next) but I have different request.
Dimash recently did a duet with Li Yugang, which you may find interesting. Li is a singer and a performer in the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater. He specializes in "nandan" role, which is male who plays female role in Peking opera. So he sounds like female when singing and can go extremely high!
Dimash & Li sing "Drunken Concubine" and "Diva Dance" @ the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala th-cam.com/video/8T3J9TqU-QM/w-d-xo.html
It's basically an exercise in showing off. Dimash does a little of everything (and I mean everything, including a whistle note...) and Li is a fantastic singer! Traditional Chinese opera sound. Did I mention they show off? xD
I think you might find that mix of different styles very fascinating! I would love to hear what you have to say on both of them. :D
