  • A driver's eye view of the line from Machynlleth to Aberrystwyth and return. This was recorded in the summer / autumn of 1993 (I think) from the cab of Derby Lightweight DMU M79900 Test Coach Iris. There is a commentary mentioning features along the line such as stations, level crossings, mileposts etc. It is as recorded except where I've edited out a couple of long stationary waits!

It would be nice to see a modern cab view as there have been changes to the line (new station at Bow Street and track layout at Dovey Junction)

Another very enjoyable video, and for Wales a surprising amount of straight track. The detail in the line knowledge commentary on outward journey was very good. This was appreciated even more when trying to work out exactly where we were on the return journey! Dovey Junction, with no road access, is something of a rarity in stations and a good place to watch Ospreys if anyone wants to combine two hobbies!

Enjoyed this ride along a rather lovely green/rural part of West Wales to the isolated town of Aberystwyth - literarily a "line to the outside world!"

Dovey Junction must be the most isolated train station in the uk.

I think Rannock Moor on the Highland line has that honour actually....

You might like to know that the building at 18:10 is part of a network of WW2 observation bunkers used when Ynyslas was a top secret rocket range.

Thanks for that. I'll have to look into this as I didn't know about the rocket range

      Thank you.
I believe it was in the summer / autumn of 1993 not long after the opening of the new Welshpool station (opened July 1993).
