This video and explanation on what I think is very similar to rotational breathing exercise/ schroth method, is much more simpler and much more sensible than PT videos on youtube
Such great and easy exercises! Thank you Mary! Please post more. I always feel tightness in my right shoulders blade (due to dextroscoliosis). What I used to do before I found this exercise was a forward bend, grab my elbows and completely relax my neck, shoulders, back and let the gravity pull me down. Then I would breath in deeply and hold my breath for 2-3 seconds. Air would expand my lungs and press against the tight sore muscles and then I would slowly breath out focusing on relaxing that tightness. That might be a bit more intense but I love the ease of the exercises you showed
This one you could just do in bed to start with. Then on top of the bed to do the stretches. You think it would help you breathe better for singing as well as help with scoliosis? I'm new to these exercises, as I recently found out this month that I have moderate lumbar scoliosis with an S shaped spine. It was a bit eye opening when I saw the x-rays of my spine a few days ago. They never picked it up when I was little which is unfortunate but I'm just glad we found it now rather than much later in life as I'm still in my late 20s.
Thankyou for viewing. By lying on your right side you will already start to allow the top left lung to natural expand, so then just focus on breathing into that top lung gradually, you can also place your hand on the ribs to feel it expanding.
I have right arm lover then left , left glute smaler right hip, knee and ankle osteoarthritis my left ribcage is a little foreward can this help to scoliosis stop progress?
Thankyou for reaching out Lidija. Focus on keeping the collapsed side upper most to help open ribs/ lung. If in doubt ask your health practitioner for guidance.
Try to have the support of the pillow more on the back side of the prominent ribs and not the front side . And then breathe into the compressed side towards the back of the ribs. So the pillow will help the derotation and also the breathing direction.
Hi Jordan Thankyou for your question. Yes if you firstly open the compressed side it will enable to you to start to derotate the rib cage naturally - look at the part 2 of the scoliotic video which will help rebalance the torso after this breath work to decompress. Cant explain how glad I am that I found this. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this video!
Is the compressed side the side with rib flare and concave or without rib flare and convex?
What alternative exercise is there if you have a left shoulder injury?
Ty sweetie!
At the age of 47 with a 16 curve is it wise to commence physio as it will get worse as I age?
How do approach this conceptual breathing from an opposing lumbar curve in the case of an S curve?
Ive been doing this without knowing what it’s called
I think both sides are compressed!
Try to do the exercise on both sides and compare, does one side feel tighter/ more restricted as you breathe?
How do I breathe into my left lung?

Will this help with rib cage rotation as well?
