    I know quite a few of the motorcycles you show by name and have seen them in books etc; but the fact that you are able to find actual running examples of these fabulous machines and show them to us is wonderful. I love your channel and recommend it to all my motorcycle friends.

    The first bike is doesn't have a rotary engine, it has a RADIAL engine, which is even cooler in my book.

    Actually the LE Velocette was extensively use by the British police...
    Very functional..single seat with radio transmitter/receiver behind the driver..
    What we called a Bobby bike..for local towns

      @M Bacon Plus there's the insane gyroscopic forces that must be calculated and overcome. Definitely not surprising the design was quickly made obsolete.

      How do you get the wheel on the ground without it stalling or killing yourself? How would you stop it?

    I'd rode a Neracar almost identical to the one shown,many years ago now, in Lincolnshire , England. Incredibly stable steering.

    I was a mechanic and service manager with a shop in northern Westchester Co., N.Y. and we had a customer bring in a Ner-a-Car for me to evaluate for restoration. Turned out it had no spark and I suspected the flywheel needed to be pulled and servicing done with it and the internals. After days of trying, couldn't get the flywheel off so asked them to come get the bike. If we hadn't been a major brand dealer, perhaps would have pulled the power unit for a better approach. The friction drive was a very interesting feature and simply applied.

    I know the Czechs where advanced in terms of technics, but dint' know they where so advanced.
    The German pressed steel frame motorcycles had the look.

    I have freaking LOVED all the weird and wonderful bikes you show us, and all the great and not so great, but the idea put into iron, and am grateful to you. But that rotary engined front wheel leaky horror just turns my stomach in its bizarre departure from reality. , im grateful for the reminder.

    Seeing that CZ is an awesome company, I'm going to give Bohmerland the benefit of the doubt . Dad always said when he was a kid there were the rich and the poor. I guess the rich bought a Majestic. Imme, stinginess at its very best, half a motorcycle. I wonder if the Meg was designed to oil the front tyre?

    Interesting vid. Modern bikes are sadly bereft of innovation these days.
    I always felt sorry for the likes of Royce Creacey (champion of FFW bikes) but any attempt at progress was killed off by authorities (racing and otherwise) and a surprisingly conservative public.

    I read that with the Megola, the engine rotated in the opposite direction of the front wheel. I know the video appears to show it rotating in the same direction but is it a trick of the camera?

    Full dimensions for a ner-a-car can be found online. One could make a reasonable facsimile of a Majestic by putting similar bodywork on a reproduced one. I'd love to make a semi modern replica of an Imme R100 and a majestic... Something to do during retirement.

    The LE Velocette was a common site in the UK in the early '70's, they were used by village coppers, very quiet bikes too.

    Whilst riding around the south of France looking for twisties a couple of years ago we happened on a local bike show. There was a Majestic there. Excellent bike with lots of innovative stuff, glad to see a few included here :-)

    Imme R-100 . Single-sided Fork and Swingarm . Great Idea . Single-sided Crankshaft Bearing , maybe not so much . I bet reliability was Horrible .
    All these Beautiful Antiques are Wonderful though . Some Very Forward thinking ideas from 80 -100 years ago .

      And yet it is considered a design classic with a home in many motorbike and design museums.
      Previously the engineer behind the Imme R100 designed the starter motor for the world's first operative jet fighter.

      @@gustavmeyrink_2.0 I’ve always considered the IMME a very forward-thinking design.
      I’ve never owned one but had an R100 in my shop for a while.
      If I recall correctly (it’s been a few years) both wheels were the same size and interchangeable. It could also carry a spare wheel. The single-sided fork and swingarm made for easy wheel changes.
      Lots of other unique features on this bike.

      @Alfred Wedmore I see. Thank you for setting that straight. I used to design cars and should know this. Not an engineer, though. Just a visionary.
      Riddle- if burning any fuel in any closed chamber makes vacuum, then what is pushing the piston?
      In 30 years the only one to get it right was a housewife suffering clarity.

      @Alfred Wedmore wrong. Cupping. Egg trick. Putting out a candle with a coaster. All make vacuum. But I like your answer. Pieces of it are very close. Try again. After doing these 3 experiments, of course. Holler back if you need any clarification about the experiments. You will love the answer, I promise!

    Please leave the sub titles up for a bit longer, almost all proved impossible to finish reading, this was a real shame as the bikes featured were very interesting, have seen pictures of some Neracars with what looked almost like an armchair as a seat, talk about comfort !!.

    i see no reason the megola or neracar can't be modernized and equipped with electric motors. as much as i love classic motorcycle designs, some of these early bikes were decades ahead of their time.

      the neracar and megola appear to have superior ergonomics and rider protection from road spray as compared to modern road burners. both are museum pieces and basically unusable.
      i'm not talking about bastardizing museum pieces but designing modern motorcycles utilizing old but ahead of their time ideas.

    these older bike have style . the newer super bikes are designed by computer generated images focused on aerodynamics . they all look similar and BOOORING.
    The older model cars and bikes were designed via imagination and as such are a pure art form .

    I always thought the Honda Solo was an exercise in quote/unquote "retro", now I know it was copied from the Imme R100.

    The Velux at Ellie was a dismal failure 4-valve page to design a bike with a hand gear shift that dated from the thirties for the company that invented the foot gear shift was abysmal liquid-cooled Flathead made no power at all and only the Army and the police would buy them because the government told them to feel affectionate stuck to their Core Business of making 500cc sporting motorcycles

    While interesting, most of these motorcycles don't look very practical today, and would not be enjoyable to ride.
