I made the Moravian bench, it made me fall in love with hand tool woodworking. I immediately sold my jointer and chop saw which freed up much space in my small shop. I was taking a class at the Woodwright school (Roy Underhill) and the second day a bunch of red oak slabs were stacked up, oh yeah the Moravian class was the next week. Love my bench and hope yours is working for you.
I like that you made this out of ordinary lumber and didn't go to great expense buying hardwoods for it. You could even lay up that 4x12 out of a bunch of 2x4's for that matter. By alternating the grain it would give it stability, and some extra visual interest. My neighbor took down his deck and I was able to reclaim a bunch of lumber for free, and this happens all over the place if people keep their eyes open for the opportunities.
@@DBacaMaker oh. I didn't know that. And I generally do appreciate obscure references to things that I like! I just thought you were embarrassed about talking with your hands. And I wanted to say that the production value and content of your workbench videos FAR outweigh your lack of "professional" hand skills. It's hard to believe, but some TH-camrs insult themselves and think it's funny. Still ❤️.
Made this comment on other videos. The more I see the Moravian the more I want to build it! Been contemplating an English joiner’s bench as a first bench build but the Moravian seems to speak to me.
That is going to be a very nice work bench. Your skill with hand tools show that you really enjoy what you work on. Fun to watch like Roy Underhill. Take care in the heat.
Boy howdy that's some project there my friend. Labor of love no doubt. Not enough hrs in the day for old Crawford to take on a project like this. Your a lucky man, talented too may I say. 🙏Blessed days sirSir Crawford out 🧙♂️
I'm sorry it took so long to respond. I thought I had cleared my comments but TH-cam suddenly brought up a slew of them that I had not seen. My apologies. I hope you have had a great success with your bench. Thank you.
Ok, so here is why I clicked on this. I am wanting to make a roman style short bench. I have seen a couple of videos on it, they all have round legs, me not thinking it would be a sturdy bench in the long run, thought, about making legs similar obviously much shorter than this for the legs, Knock down bench, now you have my attention. OK. Yes sir, going to watch the whole thing, being able to knock this down and take it into the filed may well be better option than the roman style low bench. I would also like to say it is nice to see a guy actually making stuff using Irwin saw, old box plane, and nothing that cost over 5000 dollars to purchase for a simple but intricate work bench build. Not sure, but I will follow along and get a better idea how I want to make my bench. So thanks for sharing. Dale
@@DBacaMaker Yes sir, you did a great job on this build and i love it, so much i ordered the video build along sergers for it was. not that it was super needed, but i did pick up some more tips and ideas with another perspective. Thanks again my friend, The roman bench has my interest as well as this one, Only real difference is the one has a tool tray and more normal height, being a breakdown style bench, this one has some interesting features that i believe would make it fit my needs as well. so thank you so much for sharing, thanks for the sub as well we truly appreciate it dale
Nice video, congratulations on the building. Would you have the plans/sketchs that you show before building each part? That would be wonderful if you could send me, if that's not much trouble. I'm planing on building a workbench myself, but I want to customize it a little bit with ideas from various types of bench, and those drawings of yours would be of much help. Thank you in advance
Sadly, I lost a lot of my files for this project when I applied a WIndows update. BUT I did find other Moravian bench models in SketchUp's 3D Warehouse from other people's projects. Just type in Moravian Workbench and they'll pop right up. As for the plans I used, there are links in the videos to my sources.
Smaller parts, easier move.. Even the big block top is small enough to move without grunting. I still keep my water full and in arms reach at all times. Bless you and yours, Dan
I'm sorry. I thought I replied to you a year ago but TH-cam says No. It's funny, I do have Spanish in me, hence my name, and I am learning French for fun. But I was also trained in public speaking and the use of gestures, I just sometimes think mine go a little off the rails. Thank you.
I enjoy your down to earth and thoughtful presentation/delivery of ideas. You do it well. Thank you for sharing.
And thanks for including the metric measurements.

I do love working at my bench! I've made a bunch of projects at and look forward to even more. I envy you for your time at the Woodwright School.

I was seriously thinking about doing it in all 2x4 lumber but then i got the slab sooo.
Good start to what looks like a nice bench Dan
Insulting yourself is not funny. You are worthy of respect, no matter how much your hands move. ❤️
That was actually a reference to the 50th anniversary Dr. Who episode. Thank you, though.

The Moravian bench is a great portable work bench. I haven't ported mine to a jobsite yet, but that is my purpose for it.

Thank you. I always enjoyed Roy's show too. Hope it works out as well for my piece.
..Watched this Saturday and guess what was on our local PBS station that afternoon!! Talk about timing. Looking Good...!!
I love that! Woohoo for Roy Underhill!

Thank you! I've wanted to make one for a long time and now I'm doing it. Yep, a labor of love for me.
Always like seeing how others make there workbench 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! I probably made it too complicated but as long as it inspires someone to build it better
Congratulations. I starting to build my Moravian.

Well now you have me interested in the Roman bench! Thank you. I'm happy that my little build gave you some ideas. Subbed back of course.

Hey DBaca, this will be a very solid workbench, waiting for the next video, take care 👍
Thanks. New video coming soon. Have to work around a little summer rain.
Thanks for adding the (mm)
Love watching dove tails being fitted up. Not saying that I'm any good at dove tails but like watching them
I'm gradually getting better at them. They put me to task every time.

Interesting and you May appear simple, but IT is not.
Thank you very much. It's just one step at a time.
The talking with the hands is typical in latin culture. You must have French descent or other, we all talk like you down here, hehe.
